One of the learning objectives in mathematics that must be mastered by students is understanding mathematical concepts. from field observations, ityis knownmthat the understanding of mathematics concepts for classdX IPA SMANd1 Kecamatan LarehgSago Halabanhin the 2020/2021 academic year is low. Applying therProblem Based Learning learning modelkin the learningkprocess is expected to improve student’s understandingoof mathematical concepts.gThis research aimsgto describe whether the understanding of mathematical concepts of students who learn to apply the Problem Based Learning modelois betterothan the understandingoof mathematicaloconcepts of studentsowho learnoby applyingodirect learning models in class XI IPA SMAN 1 Kecamatan Lareh Sago Halaban. This research belongs to the type ofoquasi-experimental research with a static group design.oThe population used is class XI IPA SMAN 1 Kecamatan Lareh Sago Halaban for the academic year 2021/2022. Theosample was selectedoby randomksampling technique, class XIoIPA 6 as the experimentaloclass and class XI IPA 5 as the controloclass. The instrumentoused is a test of understanding mathematical concepts with essay uquestions. The hypothesis testoused is the U test. The results of data analysis at = 0.05 and P-value = 0.002 using the U test, it is known thatpthe understanding of mathematical concepts of students whooapply the Problem Based Learning model is better than students whooapply direct learning models in class XI IPA SMAN 1 Kecamatan  Lareh Sago Halaban.Keywords- uunderstanding  mathematical concepts, Problem Based Learning, direct learning

Abstract

The Curriculum changes make teachers have to be creative in developing teaching materials because there are not many teaching materials that apply an independent curriculum. So that the existing teaching materials are still lacking to facilitate the learning process.Realistic Mathematics Educationbased teaching materials that are valid and practical are the goal of this study. This teaching material uses the Plomp development modelwhich consists of twophase, namely the preliminary phase and the development phase. This research was conducted on class VII students of SMP Pembangunan Laboratorium UNP. Data collection instruments used were observation, interviews, and questionnaires. In this research obtained teaching materials based on realistic mathematics education with a validity value of 91.16% in the very valid category and 95.62% practicality value in the very practical category. Keywords–Teaching Materials, Realistic Mathematics Education, Valid, Practical

Abstract

Geometry is one branch of mathematics that is close to student life, but in reality student geometry learning outcomes are still relatively low. Geometry learning based on the Van Hiele theory is solutions than can help students understand to be better the geometry consept. The purpose of study was to know student geometry learning outcomes who studied with learning based on the Van Hiele theory. The type of research was a quasy experiment with static group design. This research was conducted on class VIII. Sampling was done by using simple random sampling. Data in this research was final test in essay form test which consisted of 6 question, where each question contains indicator of achievement of geometry learning outcomes. The research hypothesis was proven by t test. Based on the result of data analysysis  it is obtained , so it can be cocluded that  student geometry learning outcomes who studies with Van Hiele theory is better than than those who learns with conventional learningKeywords --- geometry learning outcomes, Van Hiele theory, conventional learning.

Abstract

According to conclusion of preliminary research in ninth-grade showed that the most of the mathematics learning outcomes have not qualify the mark determined and they were passive in the learning process. The factor of this case  caused by learning tools still not optimal. Based on this situation, researcher doing development on the  mathematic’s learning tools, as like as lesson plan  (RPP) and student’s  worksheets (LKPD)  on  REACT  learning model to supply learning experiences and great effect in student’s learning activities as long as learning process. In this research, researcher were collected the data through of observation, teachers interview, and another coherent research sources. The main research’s subjects are students in ninth of junior high school with different cognitive ability. This research  based on plomp design, this design contain are preliminiary research phase,  prototype phase, and  assessment phase. Come from result of data analysis proved  that REACT learning tools was qualify as very valid criteria of content and construction, afterthat itself  qualify to practical criteria of  execution and effectiveness in time use according to students questionnaires.  Keywords—Development design research, learning tools, REACT learning mode, transformation

Abstract

The ability to solve mathematical problems is very important in the learning process. However, tests conducted during observation at SMPN 16 Padang proved that this ability is still at a low level. This study examines the mathematical problem solving ability of students in grade VIII of SMPN 16 Padang using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach.  The research design applied was Nonequivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design. The sample was selected by simple random sampling. The t-test analysis on the final test obtained a P-value of 0.024 which indicates that the PBL model is more effective than direct learning in solving mathematical problems.Keywords: Problem Based Learning Model, Mathematical Problem Solving Abilities, Direct Learning

Abstract

Students make mistakes in solving math problems because the mastery of the students ' material is not good. To find out the learners ' mistakes need to be analyzed. Teachers have not conducted student error analysis. The research aims to describe the types of student mistakes in solving math problems. In this study are limited to quadrilateral and triangular material. The approach taken in this study is qualitative research with a type of descriptive research. Data collection techniques with observation, test and poll methods. Data analysis techniques are done by reducing data, presenting data, and verifying data. The subject of this study is a student in class VII-5 SMP Negeri 18 Padang. Students ' mistakes are conceptual, procedural and technical mistakes. Based on these results, it is obtained that many students make mistakes such as conceptual, procedural, and technical, as well as learners do not understand the formula, do not understand the working step, and not skilled in calculations. Of the 3 types of mistakes the most accomplished mistake by learners is conceptual and procedural mistakes and few learners experience technical errors.Keywords: Error analysis, conceptual error, procedural errors, technical errors

Abstract

The research aims to develop an e-module on flat-side space material for junior high school students which is valid and practical. This type of research is included in research and development (R&D) using the 4-D model. The 4-D model consists of four stages, namely define, design, develop and disseminate. But this time research is only up o the stage of development. This research was conducted in UPTD SMPN 2 Kec. Akabiluru to students of class VIII.1 and VIII.2. Data obtained in analysis with quantitative and qualitative analysis. Based on validation by experts, the e-module are categorized as valid with a validity level of 85,00%. For the technical response of students at the one-to-one evaluation of class VIII.1 is 87,72% and is categorized practical, and the small-group evaluation of class VIII.2 is 86,00% and is categorized practical. Based on these data it could be concluded that the e-module are worthy to use. Keywords – E-Module, Mathematics, Valid, Practical

Abstract

One thing that helps educators understand students’ abilities in learning mathematics is mathematical communication. However, math communication abilities are lacking among class XII MIPA SMAN 6 Padang students. This study explores how students' mathematical communication abilities are impacted by and developed by the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) cooperative learning approach. With a Randomised Control Group Only Design, a quasi-experimental methodology was used in this investigation.  By gathering samples using standard random sampling techniques, 177 students from class XII at SMAN 6 Padang as the research population. Instruments included maths tests and quizzes. The data analysis gave the t-test a =0.000. P-Value 0.05 or lower rejects H0. Thus, cooperative learning of the TPS kind enhances students' mathematical communication abilities.Keywords– Mathematical Communication Ability, Cooperative Learning, Think-Pair-Share (TPS)

Abstract

Understanding mathematica1 concepts is 0ne 0f the learning objectives that must be mastered by students. However, in reality at SMAN 1 Banuhampu, the ability t0 understand the c0ncepts of class X students still needs to be improved. One 0f the fact0rs that causes this to happen is 1earning that has n0t been fully able t0 facilitate students t0 devel0p a good understanding of concepts. One 0f the efforts t0 impr0ve students' understanding 0f mathematical concepts is t0 apply the C0ntextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) appr0ach. The purp0se of this study was t0 identify and describe the impact 0f applying the Contextual Teaching and Learning approach to the ability to understand mathematical concepts of the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Banuhampu. The type of research used is pre-experimental with One Sh0t Case Study Design. The subject 0f this research is class X MIPA 4 SMAN 1 Banuhampu. The instrument used is a test of the ability to understand mathematical concepts in the form of description questions, the data obtained are then analyzed based 0n the percentage 0f the number 0f students and the average value of students per indicator. Based 0n data analysis, it can be c0ncluded that the development of the ability t0 understand mathematical c0ncepts 0f students in class X MIPA 4 SMAN 1 Banuhampu with the application of the CTL approach is very good and has increased in several indicators, namely indicators restating concepts, identifying properties of operations or concepts, applying concepts logically, giving examples and non-examples of c0ncepts, and presenting concepts in various f0rms of mathematical representati0n. Keywords –Ability t0 Understand Mathematical C0 ncepts, CTL Approach, One Shot Case Study Design.
