Abstract

The teaching materials used by educators in classroom learning make students is not enough for the teaching. This causes low of student learning outcomes. Flipbooks are considered capable of improving the quality of classroom learning, improving the effectivity in learning, independent learning by students, and also the student learning outcomes, especially on integral material. This is because in addition to having features in the form of writing, there are also pictures, videos and other interesting features. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) and using the Plomp model which produces valid and practical flipbooks on integral material. Flipbook on this integral material is very valid and very practical with a valid score of 85.95% and a practical score of 87.17% from students and 97.08% from educators. Keywords– Flipbook, Integral, Plomp, Practical, Valid

Abstract

The main goal of the learning process is to improve students' ability to solve mathematical problems. However, the practice of problem solving skills among students in an educational environment is still inadequate. The Problem Based Learning model emerges as a potential undertaking by taking a unique approach to problem solving. In particular, the ability of E-phase students at SMAN 8 Padang to solve mathematical problems in the course material Equations and Quadratic Functions is the focus of this study, which seeks to determine the beneficial effects of the PBL model's adoption. This study adopts the quasi-experimental method and a quantitative methodology, as well as the research design posttest-only nonequivalent group design. There were 351 E-phase students at SMAN 8 Padang who made up the study's population. To select participants, the research sample selection strategy used a simple random sampling technique which was introduced as simple random sampling. As a result, X.E5 was designated as the experimental class, while X.E7 was designated as the control class. The results of the data analysis from the mathematical problem solving ability test, found a P-value of 0.002, with a significance level (α = 0.05). Because the P-value < α, the H0 implication is rejected. The study's findings support the hypothesis that utilizing a problem based learning paradigm has an impact or effect on E-Phase students enrolled in SMAN 8 Padang's capacity to solve mathematical problems.Keywords– Problem Based Learning (PBL) , Mathematical Problem Solving Ability

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out where the students are wrong in solving mathematical problems and to describe the factors that caused them. The type of the research is descriptive research with the subject of the research is class VIII.1 students of SMP Negeri 7 Padang. The students of class VIII.1 are 32 students.Analysis of test result  uses Newman’s analysis. The result of data analysis showed that the most mistakes made by students were errors in writing the final answer with precentage of 29,83%. Errors made by students consist of, the students cannot write the context meaning of problems correctly, do not write what is known and asked, write what is known and asked but not in accordance with the request, errors in computing, misconception, write the answers until end which is not accordance with the context of the question. The factors that cause students to make mistakes include : unable to arrange the meaning of words that are thought into the form of grammatical structures, do not understand the meaning of questions, do not serious in following the lessons have given by the teacher, cannot understand information problems contained in the problem, lack of practice on the problems in the form of stories in different variations, misunderstanding information from the teacher, lack of understanding the problem, lack of understanding the material, lack of understanding the material preconditions. Keywords–error analysis, mathematical problems, Newman’s analysis

Abstract

This study discusses the process of developing student worksheets with RME approach on social arithmetic. This uses the Plomp development model which consists of three stages is Preliminary Research and Prototyping Phase. The prototyping phase is consisting of prototype 1 and prototype 2. In prototype 1, self-evaluation and expert review to see the validity of the developed student worksheets. In prototype 2, a One-to-One Evaluation was stage is carried out to measure the practicality of the student worksheets being developed. Validity is measured based on a validity questionnaire filled out by three validators and practicality is measured based on a practicality questionnaire filled out by three respondents.Based on the results of the development of student worksheets based on the RME approach, a valid and practical student worksheets was obtained. The results of the validity data analysis reached a value of 89.58% with a very valid category. The results of practical data analysis of student worksheets reached a value of 87.5% including the very practical category. So, it can be concluded that student worksheets based on the realistic mathematic education approach on social arithmetic material has met the criteria of validity and practicality. Keywords— Development Research, Student Worksheet, RME

Abstract

Mathematical communication ability are one of the sought-after elements in the implementation of mathematics learning and must be mastered by students. Based on observation, the mathematical communication ability of eight-grade students of MTsN 5 Padang is weak. One effort to address this issue is to apply the Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending cooperative learning model. This research aimed to analyze linked to the existence of better mathematical communication ability of students who, during their studies, apply the CORE type cooperative learning model than those who study using direct learning and describe how students' mathematical communication develop during the implementation of the model. The research conducted was quasi-experimental and descriptive with posttest-only nonequivalent control groups design. The population consists of eight-grade students MTsN 5 Padang in the 2023/2024, the experimental group being class VIII.11 and the control group being class VIII.10. The quiz analysis results show that there are two models of skill development, namely constant increase and fluctuation. Final test analysis show that the mathematical communication ability of students who study using the CORE-type cooperative learning model are better than those who study using the direct learning model in class VIII MTsN 5 Padang.Keywords– Mathematical communication ability, Cooperative learning model, CORE, Direct instruction model

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out whether students’ mathematics representation skill who studied with collaborative problem solving models better then students’ mathematics representation skill who studied with conventional models. This study was a quasi-experiment with Nonequivalent  posttest-only control group design, and sampling was done by using Simple Random Sampling which consist of experiment class that will studied with collaborative problem solving models and control class that will studied with conventional models. The result of this study show that mean of students’test outcome in experiment class more than mean of students’test outcome in control class significantly. Thus, students’ mathematics representation skill who learn with collaborative problem solving models better then students’ mathematics representation skill who learn with conventional models. Keywords — Collaborative Problem Solving, Mathematics Representation, Simple Random Sampling, Nonequivalent posttest-only control group design.

Abstract

The mathematical communication skill is an important aspect and should be achieved in the learning of mathematics. The Importance of mathematical communication skill for students make this capability need to be improved in the learning process of mathematics. The observation results indicate that the mathematical communication skill of the students in SMPN 5 Kota Solok was still low. The method that can be applied to improve the mathematical communication skill of students is by applying cooperative learning Student Teams Achievement Divisions model. The type of research was quasy-experimental and descriptive with the randomized control group only design. The results of this research showed that  the development of mathematical communication skill of students whose during learning process using STAD model has increased, and mathematical communication skill of students whose learning process using STAD model is better than mathematical communication skill of students whose learning with direct learning.Keywords – Mathematical Communication Skill, Cooperative Learning Model, Student Teams Achievement Divisions.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the crucial subjects to increase the skills of problem solving in mathematical of high school (SMA) students. However, there are still many students who make false in solving mathematical problem solving questions. The research purpose was to describe students' mistakes in solving mathematical problem solving questions and to look the factors that why students to make false in solving mathematical problem solving questions. This research type is descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The techniques for data collection used in this research were mathematical problem solving tests and semi-structured interviews. The research subjects were students of class XI SMA Negeri 3 Padang. The results showed that there were 5 mistakes made by students in solving mathematical problem solving questions according to Newman's error analysis, namely (1) reading, 21% of students who make this error; (2) comprehension, 31% of students who carry out error; (3) transformation, 37% of students who carry out error; (4) process skill, 47% of students who carry out error and; (5) encoding, 54%. The errors type made by high group subjects in general were process skill and encoding. The types of errors that were made by the subject of the medium group in general were transformation, process skills, and encoding. The errors types made by the low group subjects were comprehension, transformation, process skill, and encoding.Keywords – Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Newman’s Error Analysis

Abstract

Mathematical problem solving ability is one of abilities that is expected to develop optimally forlearners. But, based on the result from observation showed that mathematical problem solving ability of students in a SMPNegeri1 Padanggrade VIIIdid not developed optimally yet. One of the efforts to apply Group Investigation model.Type of this research is quasi-exsperiment with static grup design with simple random sampling. According to the research result, we can conclude that mathematical problemsolving ability of learners who follow Group Investigation model learning is better than the mathematical problem-solving ability of learners who follow conventional learningwith a significance level of 0,05.  Keywords –Group Investigation, mathematical problem solving ability, conventional learning.

Abstract

Every learning process requires teaching materials. Teaching materials have a role in achieving learning objectives. However, the teaching materials used in schools have not opened up diverse thinking insights from all students and motivate students to read them, so teaching materials in the form of comics based on constructivism have been developed on the material of rectangles and triangles. This type of research is Ploom which aims to produce valid and practical comics teaching materials. This research consists of a preliminary research, development or prototyping phase, and an assessment phase. The research instrument consisted of a questionnaire obbservation sheet validation sheet, interview list and practicality questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that the quality of the teaching materials developed is very valid from the aspect of the material according to the curriculum, the aspect of the appearance is good and attractive, has all the components of teaching materials and aspects of language that are good and correct. This comics teaching material is very practical because it is easy to use, understandable, and develops students' thinking insight. Keywords— teaching materials, comics, constructivism, ploom, quadrilaterals and triangles
