Abstract

Critical thinking is crucial. The SMPN 2 Sawahlunto observations demonstrated this skill is still absent. Our study evaluated how Discovery Learning (DL) can develop this skill. SMPN 2 Sawahlunto Class VIII was the study population. Simple random sampling yielded class VIII 3 as the control and VIII 4 as the experimental. WE adopted Non-Equivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design. The results indicate that if the P-value is below the significance level (?), adopt the alternative hypothesis (H1). Evidence suggests the DL model increases critical thinking.

Abstract

The study's overarching goal is to compare and contrast the conceptual understanding of students taught using the STAD learning paradigm with that of students taught using more traditional approaches. Only a randomized control group was utilized in this quasi-experimental study. Class XI AKL students from all three years of the 2024–2025 school year at SMK Negeri 3 Padang made up the study's population. We used a basic random sampling procedure to pick our sample. The information collected for this study came from seven essay problems on the final exam and six quizzes. The data analysis method includes looking at the session quizzes and then utilizing a t-test to examine the final exam. The null hypothesis (H0) was rejected as a result of the significant P-value of 0.007 that was produced by the last test of hypothesis testing. Students that use the STAD learning model appear to have a better grasp of mathematical concepts than their counterparts who use more conventional learning models. Keywords– Concept Understanding, Student Teams Achievement Divisions, Quasi-experiment

Abstract

In order for students to solve issues in a variety of real-life contexts using mathematical concepts and abilities, they must have a strong grasp of mathematical literacy. The observations made throughout the PLK period and the early evaluations at SMPN 2 Tilatang Kamang show that class VIII students' competency level is still fairly low. An effective strategy for dealing with this problem is to apply the Problem Based Learning method. The One Group Pretest-Posttest Design was used as a pre-experimental design in this study to look at how the PBL learning model affected math literacy. Researchers wanted to see how well participants did both before and after using the PBL approach of instruction. A significant result (2-tailed) of P = 0.001 was produced by the hypothesis test, which utilized the paired sample t-test using SPSS. Students' mathematical literacy levels were significantly different on the pretest and posttest. Students' mathematical literacy can be improved by the adoption of the PBL paradigm, as evidenced by the moderate level of improvement (0.59) in the N-Gain exam. Keywords– Mathematical Literacy Ability, Problem Based Learning

Abstract

Mathematical literacy encompasses the ability to formulate, apply, and interpret mathematics across various contexts. It is essential for students to cultivate these skills to tackle real-world problems effectively and improve their competencies. Despite this, the current level of mathematical literacy among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 32 Solok Selatan remains suboptimal. To address this issue, the discovery learning model, which emphasizes exploration, is being considered. The aim is to assess whether students who engage in discovery learning exhibit better mathematical literacy skills compared to those who receive direct instruction. This study employs a quasi-experimental design with a static group comparison. It involves an experimental group (Class VIII.1) and a control group (Class VIII.2). A mathematical literacy test serves as the research instrument, with data analyzed using a t-test.Keywords– Discovery Learning Model, Mathematical Literacy Ability, Direct Learning

Abstract

Students must develop High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in order to thrive in this era of rapid technological advancement and increased globalization. But the truth is that eighth graders at SMPN 8 Padang still have relatively low levels of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) since their lessons aren't well-designed to foster their development. The problem of inadequate higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) can be effectively tackled by introducing a digital module that combines ethnomathematical aspects with creative problem-solving (CPS) strategies. This study set out to test the hypothesis that, when compared to more traditional forms of instruction, developing students' higher-order thinking abilities (HOTS) through the use of CPS-based digital modules that incorporate ethnomathematical subtleties yields better results. This study used a quasi-experimental methodology, more especially, a control group design with nonequivalent posttests. For this research, we will use data from two classes chosen at random from among all eighth graders at SMPN 8 Padang throughout the 2024–2025 school year. Two classes will be chosen at random; one will serve as the control group and the other as the experimental group. The final evaluation of the HOTS was used as the research tool. Students who used digital modules that combined creative learning (CPS) outperformed those who stuck to traditional teaching resources on the HOTS final exam when it came to higher-order thinking skills. Keywords– High Order Thinking Skill,  Creative Problem Solving, Digital Modules, Ethnomathematics

Abstract

Abstract  – Numeracy literacy is a required skill in the independent curriculum. Numeracy literacy is a skill that must be possessed by students in using various kinds of numbers and symbols related to mathematics to solve contextual problems. But in practice, this ability is still relatively low in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Payakumbuh. This can be improved by applying the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. This study aims to determine whether the numeracy literacy skills of students who learn with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach are better than the numeracy literacy skills of students who learn with conventional approaches. This research is categorized as a quasy experiment with a nonequivalent post-test only control group design. The research instrument used was a numeracy literacy test which was analyzed using the t-test.  Based on the analysis of the test results, the average score of the experimental class was 18.31 and the control class was 15.56. The numeracy literacy test results after analyzing the data obtained that at a significant level of 0.05 by conducting a t-test obtained P-value = 0.001, because the P-value < a then H0 is rejected. This shows that the numeracy literacy skills of students who use the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach are better than students who use conventional approaches in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Payakumbuh. Keywords– Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) Approach, Numeracy Literacy Skills, Conventional Approach
