Abstract

Students must develop the capacity to solve mathematical problems well. The main goal for students studying mathematics is to develop this talent. However, grade XI students at SMA Negeri 2 Koto Baru still have a poor level of competence. Educators' failure to implement effective learning strategies to enhance this aptitude is the root cause of this problem. Think Talk Write (TTW) is one of the cooperative learning strategies that can help students to improve these abilities. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The t-test results showed a P-value = 0.000 which means the null hypothesis (H0) cannot be accepted. The TTW model appears to be more effective learning conventional forms. Keywords– Cooperative Learning, Problem-Solving Abilities,  Think Talk Write

Abstract

Improving students' mathematical communication skills is an important goal in the field of mathematics education that they must achieve. The mathematical communication skills of class XI at SMA Negeri 1 Suliki are currently at a poor level. One potential solution to this problem is to implement a cooperative learning model of Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending (CORE) type, which is integrated with student worksheets (LKS) as a tool in the learning process. This study seeks to determine whether students who apply the CORE type cooperative learning model equipped with LKS have better mathematical communication compared to the implementation of the direct learning model. For the purpose of this investigation, a quasi-experimental methodology known as the Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group approach was used. For the purpose of this study, the population consisted of all learners enrolled in eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 1 Suliki during the 2023/2024 school year. Classes XI F 1 and XI F 4 were selected as sample classes. The final test of mathematical communication ability was used as a measuring tool for the purpose of this study. The data results were then tested by t-test, and the P-value obtained from the analysis was 0.023. Since the p-value is lower than 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is adopted instead. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the LKS-assisted learning model with the CORE (Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending) approach is superior in terms of mathematical communication skills when compared to the direct learning model. Keywords– Connecting, organizing, reflecting, extending models, live worksheet, mathematical communication skills

Abstract

Mastery of mathematical concepts is an important goal in education because it can improve students' ability to understand the subject matter. Grade XI Mechanical Engineering at SMKN 1 West Sumatra still has a long way to go before students fully understand mathematical concepts. It is suggested that the Discourse Multi Representation (DMR) learning paradigm be used to address the problem. This study aims to investigate how grade 11 students enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at SMKN 1 West Sumatra fare in their attempt to use the DMR learning model and how the model affects their understanding. The research conducted was a quasi-experimental study. The participants in this study were grade XII students at SMKN 1 West Sumatra who majored in machining engineering. Quizzes and exams were the assessment tools. The results showed that the DMR learning model was significantly better based on the quiz development results. A P-value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05, was generated from the data analysis, specifically the Mann-Whitney test. This proves that H0, the null hypothesis, is not true. Thus, students' understanding of mathematical concepts improved with the DMR method when compared to the traditional learning methodology. Keywords– DMR Model, Understanding of Mathematical Concepts

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving proficiency serves as a pivotal learning objective within the realm of mathematics that students are required to attain. Nonetheless, the preliminary assessment results on mathematical problem-solving skills at SMPN 1 Koto Salak indicate that students are encountering challenges in effectively resolving such problems. An approach to address this issue involves the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) instructional model. The primary objective of this study is to determine and outline whether there exists a superiority in the mathematical problem-solving skills of students who are exposed to Problem Based Learning compared to those who receive conventional classroom teaching in the eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Koto Salak in the academic period of 2023/2024. This particular study adopts a quasi-experimental design with Randomized Control Group Only Design. The study's target population consists of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Koto Salak in the academic year 2023/2024. Sampling procedures were carried out employing a random sampling technique, with class VIII A designated as the experimental group and class VIII B as the control group. The assessment tool employed is a mathematical problem-solving test comprising essay questions. Examination of the final test data reveals a P-value of 0.000 with a significance level (α) of 0.05. Given that the P-value is less than α, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Consequently, it can be inferred that students exposed to the Problem Based Learning model demonstrate superior mathematical problem-solving abilities compared to those undergoing conventional instruction in eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Koto Salak. Keywords– Problem Based Learning, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability

Abstract

An important skill that must be developed by students in learning mathematics is the ability to solve mathematical problems well. The results of the observation study at SMAN 3 Padang show that this competency is still lacking. This study looks at how well Discovery Learning can work for this particular skill. Class XI of SMAN 3 Padang was the main research population. Class XI F.1 and class XI F.10 served as the sample groups, which were selected by simple randomization. This study used a non-equivalent posttest only design. The results showed that the alternative hypothesis (H0) was accepted if the P-value < significance level. The results of the empirical study indicate that the Disovery Learning model improves problem solving ability. Keywords–Discovery Learning, Problem Solving, Direct Instrucstion

Abstract

Digital learning resources that encourage diverse mathematical literacy behavior are the focus of this developmental research study. Eighth graders studying circular topics in junior high will find these resources based on valid, practical, and successful challenges. The Plomp development model is the one that is used for research development. Basic research, the prototype phase, and the assessment phase are the three separate parts that make up this paradigm. Results from tests, interviews, observations, and questionnaires made up the data set. A score of 84.6 percent was returned by the experts' validation of LKPD, suggesting that it is a very valid category. The practicality test phase was when LKPD was put to the test after it was determined to be viable. With an 87.58% score on the practicality test, it was deemed very practical. To find out how well LKPD worked, we used the mathematics literacy behavior test. Student test scores fell into the "regular" and "superior" categories, proving that the LKPD was successful. Keywords– Digital LKPD, Differentiated Mathematical Literacy Behavior, Problem Based

Abstract

Mathematical problem solving ability is one of the important abilities for students to master in learning mathematics. The SMPN 29 Padang observations demonstrated this skill is still absent. Our study evaluated how Problem Based Learning (PBL) can develop this skill. SMPN 29 Padang Class VII was the study population. Simple random sampling yielded class VII 7 as the experimental and VII 7 as the control. We adopted Non-Equivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design. The results indicate that if the P-value is below the significance level (?), adopt the alternative hypothesis (H1). Evidence suggests the PBL model increases problem solving.
