Indonesian Language Teaching & Literature Journal publishes manuscripts on research in language teaching, literature, and linguistics. Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write Observation Report text of class X students of SMK Negeri 10 Makassar through various stages applied in the Genre-Based Approach (GBA). Data were obtained during planning, action implementation, observation and reflection through tests, classroom observation, and documentation.  The test was conducted three times (initial test, cycle I test, and cycle II test). The research instruments used were LHO text writing skill test questions, analysis sheets, and observation sheets, as well as documentation guides.  The research method used was classroom action research (PTK) which was carried out in two cycles. In cycle I, the results showed that only about 40% or 12 students managed to reach the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) and as many as 60% or 18 students who did not reach the KKM. However, after improvement and repetition through cycle II, the percentage of students who reached the KKM increased significantly to 90%. The results showed that the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) approach was able to improve the writing skills of the Observation Report text. This study concludes that the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) approach is effective in helping students master the writing of observation reports.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write descriptive texts by applying the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach. The type of research used in this study is Classroom Action Research. The subjects of this study were students of class VII-3 SMP Negeri 24 Makassar totalling 36 people. The research instrument used in this study was a performance test. The research data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study found that the completeness of learning outcomes of Makassar culture-based writing that in cycle 1 with an average of 35% while cycle 2, experienced an increase with an average value to 83%. Based on this, it can be concluded that the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach is effectively used in improving the ability to write description text.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write short stories using Mind Mapping of class IX students of SMP Negeri 26 Makassar. The research method used was classroom action research conducted in two cycles.  The sample of this research was class IX students of SMP Negeri 26 Makassar, totalling 23 students.  Research data were obtained through planning, action implementation, observation and reflection through tests, class observation, and documentation.  The results showed that in cycle I about 13.04% or 3 out of 23 students who managed to reach the completion criteria and as many as 86.96% or 20 out of 23 students who did not reach completeness. However, after improvement and repetition through the second cycle, the percentage of students who reached the KKM increased significantly to 82.60%. This shows that the use of the Mind Mapping method can improve learning outcomes in writing short stories.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write poetry using Podcast learning media for students of class IX SMPN 27 Makassar. The sample was selected using simple random sampling technique so that the number of samples in this study was 32 students.  The research instrument used was a poetry writing test. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive statistics.  The results showed that in cycle I a total of 21 students scored below 65, while the number of students in cycle II in the low score category <65 decreased dramatically and the number of students in the higher score category <85 increased. These results show the success of Podcast media in improving students' ability to write poetry.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' analytical and collaborative skills in writing news texts by applying the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) method. This study uses the Classroom Action Research method with two cycles, involving 36 students from class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Gowa as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, field notes, analysis tests, collaboration tests, and questionnaires. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students' skills in understanding the elements of news texts (5W+1H), the appropriate use of language, as well as motivation and cooperation within groups. In the first cycle, the average score for students' analytical and collaborative skills reached 71.8%, and increased to 87% in the second cycle. These findings indicate that the application of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) learning method is effective in increasing students' active participation, improving the quality of group discussion outcomes, and encouraging students to be more motivated and engaged in learning. Therefore, the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) method can be an effective alternative in news text learning at senior high schools.

Abstract

his study aims to apply the storytelling method to improve the speaking skills of students at Makassar State Senior High School 5. This study is a Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 30 students in grade XI. The instruments used included speaking skill tests and observations. Data analysis techniques were carried out quantitatively and qualitatively, by comparing the test results in cycles I and II using the percentage of improvement. The results showed that the application of the storytelling method significantly improved the speaking skills of students. In cycle I, the average score of students reached 65.5 with a mastery level of 16.7%. After improvements were made in cycle II, the average score increased to 84 with a mastery level of 93.3%. This improvement was seen in five main assessment aspects, namely fluency, pronunciation, intonation, grammar, and mastery of material. The storytelling method has been proven to not only improve technical aspects of speaking but also enhance students' confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm in learning. Storytelling can be used as an effective learning strategy to improve speaking skills while motivating students to be more active and creative in the learning process.
