Abstract

This article is about using of the machine translation on EFL students’ writing ability. The writer tries to analyze the students into high vocational students that need more knowledge and skill in English usage in the workplace it means that they also need more experience in English as Specific Purposes (ESP). The combination between EFL and ESP will be seen in vocational education in which the writing activity of the English can be supported by computer as the translation using machine. Machine translation has many users in the world and the discussion of using it become an interesting object within EFL learning activity and it becomes special study on helping students’ writing ability. Keeping up with the developments, machine translation day by day has become popular in the English as Foreign Language (EFL) Students. There is various vendor of machine translation but the most popular are from two corporation are Google and Microsoft. Both are the most machine translation used by people in the world. Nowadays, music can be easy to be heard across the globe in industrial entertainment. Especially for people or students who enjoy music, they can write easily helped by machine translation, someone will understand the meaning or information that include in the lyrics, book, newspaper, etc. This article will discuss about EFL students in around the world not only from Indonesia as the effect of using computerized translation on EFL high vocational students’ nowadays.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the undergraduate students’ perception of role-play in speaking class that focuses on self-concept and speaking ability. The researchers employed a case study of twenty-five undergraduate students who had attended speaking subject with role play as the activity in the learning process. The data were collected by distributing 25-item questionnaires and open-ended interviews to confirm the questionnaire data. The researchers analyzed the questionnaire data quantitatively with mean formulation followed by range score category for the interview data descriptively. The results reported that the student’s perception of the use of role-play and their self-concept gained a high score. The students perceived that role play is a suitable and effective technique in speaking class. It helps them to communicate effectively through the use of a script. It also builds self-confidence and motivation to improve their speaking ability. In speaking activities, role play is perceived to create satisfaction and a comfortable and interesting atmosphere. The students are challenged to perform better due to the massive space of practice with their friends with the real life and familiar situation brought to the activity. This study implies that speaking activities with role play to be conducted more frequently and cover more meaningful and contextual topics for the students. This study suggests a comprehensible investigation of the factors underlying the students’ confidence in speaking with role play as the activity.

Abstract

The educational sector in the post-pandemic era, due to the COVID-19 crisis, forces teachers to adapt to new methodologies and instructions in teaching students in EFL classrooms. One of the learning methods used is the flipped model of blended learning. This study aims to determine how the students perceive the learning experience after using the flipped blended learning model in EFL classrooms at the Vocational High School level. That focuses on investigating the students' perception of flipped model blended learning in terms of motivation, Effectiveness, and Engagement. This study used Qualitative research with a case study design. Ten items of a close-ended questionnaire were used as the instrument. The data was then calculated using the Likert Scale. The findings show that students at Losarang Vocational High School had a positive view of motivation, Effectiveness, and Engagement. Specifically, the result of students' perceptions of motivation was 3,11, Effectiveness was 3,31, and EngagementEngagement was 3,27. The students agreed that the flipped model of blended learning improves their learning process. When the students spent more time learning using flipped blended learning, they became more engaged since they had the flexibility to arrange their studies as they see best, wherever and whenever. Students received the flipped model of blended learning in EFL classrooms positively.

Abstract

The current study intends to investigate the strategies used by teachers to improve students' higher order thinking skills in teaching reading and to investigate the challenges faced by teachers in improving students' higher order thinking skills in teaching reading of One Vocational School in Cirebon. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research was one English teacher who teaches in two classes in tenth grade students of One Vocational School in Cirebon. Data collection are obtained through observation and interviews. The findings show that the number of strategies used by teacher is five types of teaching strategies, namely informing learning objectives, divergent questions, group discussions, giving feedback, and motivating. The researcher also found four challenges faced by teacher was time, students learning ability, students mastery, and planning domain. This happens because students still do not understand higher order thinking skills. It is suggested that the teacher must encourage active learning and always motivate students.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this research is to find out if is there a significant difference between students with extrovert and introvert personalities speaking achievement in English Education Department. The design of this study was quantitative comparative research method. The population of this research was the English Students Department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon, and the sample of this research was the Fourth and Second Semesters. The instruments of the study were questionnaire and assignment In analyzing the data of the study, the researcher used Independent sample T-test in SPSS 26.0 for windows. In this study, the Independent Sample T-test was showed the value of Sig.(2-tailed) = 0.133 > 0.05. This means that the sig (2-tailed) value is higher than 0.05. And the result of the T-table was t value is 1,603 < the table t value is 2,228. This means the t value is lower than the t table. Based on the T-test and T-table, can be concluded that there is no significant differences between students with extroverted and introverted personality in speaking achievement. This study showed that there is no significant difference in speaking achievement between students with extroverted and introverted personalities.
