Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)-based physics learning models in improving students' critical thinking skills. Using quantitative and qualitative approaches, this study involved two groups of physics education students in the second semester at Budi Darma University, namely an experimental class using a STEM-based model and a control class using conventional methods. The research instruments include pretest and posttest, observation, and interview. The results showed a significant improvement in critical thinking skills in the experimental group compared to the control group. These findings show that the STEM approach can be used as an effective strategy in developing high-level thinking skills in students

Abstract

This research the effectiveness of animated videos in improving the vocabulary mastery of third-grade students at SDIT Darussalam Islamic School Selesai. By using pre-experimental method, 16 students were assessed through Pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant difference before and after the treatment. This was proven by the mean score increasing from 28.12 (pre-test) to 84.62 (post-test), while the T-test value (11.9) exceeded the T-table value (1.753). This indicates that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. The cumulative percentage of the 20-item positive and negative statement questionnaire was 99.19%, with a total score of 1,349 that indicating students' responses to learning vocabulary using animated videos were in the very strong category. Therefore, animated videos proved highly effective in improving students' English vocabulary mastery as well as their interest in learning vocabulary using this media

Abstract

The objectives of this study are: (1) To determine the differences in generic skills due to the effects of the GI type cooperative learning model and the DI model in class XI of SMA Negeri 3 Medan (2). To determine the differences in generic skills of students who have high laboratory skills and low generic skills in class XI of SMA Negeri 3 Medan (3) To determine whether there is an interaction between the GI type cooperative learning model and the DI learning model with laboratory skills on students' generic skills. The sampling technique used a purposive sample consisting of two classes with a total sample of 72 students. The research instrument was a learning achievement test and a questionnaire on students' generic skills. The test used to obtain data was in the form of multiple choices. The data in the study were analyzed using SPSS 28 with two-way ANOVA. The results of the ANOVA test obtained: 1. The generic skills of learning physics of students taught with the GI type cooperative learning model are higher than the physics learning achievement of students taught with the DI learning model. 2. The physics learning achievement of students who have high generic skills is higher than the physics learning achievement of students who have low generic skills. 3. There is an interaction between the GI type cooperative learning model and laboratory skills on students' generic skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using a virtual laboratory in physics learning on the conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills of high school students. The research method used was a quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of two grades of XI MIPA in a public high school, with one class as an experimental class implementing physics learning using a virtual laboratory and one class as a control class using conventional learning. The research instruments included a conceptual understanding test and a critical thinking ability test that had been validated by experts. Data were analyzed using a normality test, a homogeneity test, and a t-test. The results showed that there were significant differences in conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills of students between the experimental and control classes (p < 0.05). Thus, the use of a virtual laboratory is effective in improving the quality of physics learning. The results of this study are expected to be an alternative solution for technology-based physics learning in high schools.

Abstract

The development of social media has brought significant changes in the way individuals communicate, particularly among university students. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media use on interpersonal communication patterns of students in the Communication Studies Program at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, data were collected through in-depth interviews with purposively selected informants. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the use of social media as a means of communication has a significant influence on aspects of openness, empathy, support, positive attitudes, and equality in students' interpersonal communication.

Abstract

Linguistic studies have yielded a range of divergent approaches to understanding language structure and usage; perhaps the most prominent and widespread of these are the structuralist and generative approaches. This study aims to compare the two approaches within the context of Arabic linguistic studies by analyzing recent literature and presenting concrete practical examples in the field of education. The goal is to identify the distinctive features of each approach, highlight their contributions to understanding the Arabic language, and identify the challenges they face. The findings indicate that the structuralist and generative approaches offer two distinct yet complementary perspectives in the study of Arabic; the structuralist approach builds a solid understanding of the language’s basic structure, while the generative approach provides a more dynamic perspective for understanding the language’s potential and the scope of its usage. Both contribute to the advancement of linguistic studies and a deeper understanding of the Arabic language.

Abstract

Physics learning often faces challenges in conveying abstract concepts such as waves and vibrations to students. One innovative solution is the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology that is able to visualize virtual objects interactively in a real environment. This research aims to develop and evaluate AR-based physics learning media to improve the understanding of wave and vibration concepts in Budi Darma University students. The research method uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects consisted of 40 students of the Physics Education Study Program. The research instruments include expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The results of the study showed that learning media obtained a validity level of 92.3% with a very valid category. Student response to the media reached 89.7% with the very good category. The increase in learning outcomes was shown by the N-Gain  value of 0.74 which was in the high category. The results of the study show that the use of AR-based learning media is effective in improving students' understanding of the concept of waves and vibrations. AR technology provides concrete visualization that makes it easier for students to understand abstract concepts in physics learning.
