Abstract

The development of teacher professional abilities through training is an effort to improve teacher performance by increasing their professional competence. The main objective of developing teacher professional abilities through training is to solve teacher performance weaknesses both at present and in the future towards a more desirable level of performance. Because the development of teacher professional abilities through training is so important and requires a lot of money, it is necessary to research to find a real effect on teacher competence and performance. The research problems formulated are: 1) dimensions of teacher professional ability development through training; 2) teacher professional competence; and 3) teacher performance. The research approach is quantitative with a sample of 335 from a population of 2,064 junior high school teachers in Bandung. Data were obtained from teachers using a questionnaire. The data is processed and interpreted using path analysis as an inferential statistical technique by first testing statistical assumptions, including transforming ordinal data into intervals and data normality testing. The study concluded that the development of teacher professional abilities can improve teacher competence and performance, which is expected to ultimately improve the quality of student learning. The implications include: 1) it is necessary to develop effective training; and 2) competence with performance is important to promote better teaching and learning. Based on these implications, there are several recommendations, namely: 1) increasing the development of teacher professional abilities through technical assistance and quality control group forums; (2) designing the development of teacher professional abilities that have a direct impact on the teaching and learning process; (3) develop a model with competency as the dependent variable; and (4) recommend the human side of the organization as a determinant factor that needs to be investigated.

Abstract

It is proved that financial ratios can predict future bankruptcy even on high uncertainty conditions such as an economic crisis. The research indicates that the accuracy of prediction is more increasing in line with a coming bankruptcy. The result of the research shows that four years before a corporate becomes bankrupt there have been significant differences of financial ratios between bankrupt company and sustained one. The ratios of liquidity, profitability, activity, and return on investment of sustained company are higher; while the leverage ratio is lower. The dominant influencing financial ratios toward a bankruptcy are liquidity and leverage ratios. The research finds that from ten tested ratios, Current Asset to current liabilities and total liabilities to total asset are the dominant financial ratios.

Murābaḥa financing is a type of financing that dominates the financing contract on Islamic banking in Indonesia. This shows that financing on the basis of sale (murābaḥa) has a greater contribution than the financing of the basis for the profit and loss sharing (muḍāraba and muṣāraka). The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that affect the financing of murābaḥa in the Islamic Commercial Banking in Indonesia by using variables Third Party Fund (DPK), Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Non-Performing Financing (NPF) and Return on Assets (ROA). The population in this study is the performance of Islamic Commercial Banks in Indonesia in the period of January 2014 to June 2016. The data used in this research is secondary data and sample selection by using purposive sampling method. The analytical tool used in this research is multiple linear regression analysis at significantly the rate of 5%. The results of this study indicate that the variable DPK, CAR, FDR, NPF, and ROA simultaneously have an influence on Murābaḥa. Coefficient determination test results show that the five independent variables affect the dependent variable amounted to 87.6% and the remaining 12.4% is influenced by other variables. Partially DPK, CAR, FDR, and ROA have a positive and significant effect on the financing Murābaḥa. While the NPF has no influence on Murābaḥa financing.

Abstract

This article emphasised the local Muslim community's response to environmental change and explored how religious narratives play a significant role in shaping their action. Place-based narrative is employed as conceptual frame to scrutinise the community’s understanding of the drowning condition. As a case study, Pantai Bahagia Village in West Java is selected based on two criteria: (1) deemed as the fastest drowning area in the North Java Coast; and (2) the existing Muslim-based environmental activism initiated by local teachers in responding to environmental change. For method, qualitative case study is applied by conducting interviews, group discussions, and direct observation. Findings show that the local history of Pantai Bahagia interacts with a national political event in the 1960s that eventually triggers massive environmental change in the Beting area. Further analysis of the place-based narrative indicates that familiarity with religious expressions encourages ecological awareness in the local community and provides the basis for environmental activism.
