Abstract

Insufficient knowledge of proper handwashing practices among school-age children may contribute to the increased transmission of infectious diseases. Conventional health education approaches are often unable to maintain students’ attention and active participation, creating a need for more engaging and interactive learning media. This study investigated the effect of the Hand Washing Adventure Game on handwashing knowledge among fifth- and sixth-grade students at SDN Sukorejo, Lamongan. A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 70 students selected through total sampling. Knowledge data were obtained using a structured questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The data were subsequently analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The analysis demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in students’ knowledge following the intervention (p = 0.001). The median knowledge score increased from 9 before the intervention to 19 after its implementation. These results indicate that the Hand Washing Adventure Game has potential as an interactive educational medium for improving children’s knowledge of correct handwashing practices. The use of digital educational media should therefore be considered in school-based health promotion programs, while future studies are needed to assess whether the improvement in knowledge is sustained and translated into long-term behavioral changes.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease caused by insulin resistance, leading to increased blood sugar levels. DM can cause both acute and chronic complications. One non-pharmacological therapy that can help control blood sugar levels is progressive muscle relaxation (PMR). This technique involves tensing and relaxing certain muscles, allowing the hormone cortisol to work to stabilize blood sugar levels. The design used in this case study was a progressive muscle relaxation intervention for patients with Type 2 DM in the inpatient ward of Palembang Hospital, conducted once for three consecutive days with a duration of 15-20 minutes. Blood sugar levels were measured using a glucometer twice before and after the intervention. The results obtained from the three respondents over three days showed a decrease in blood sugar levels before and after the intervention. The application of progressive muscle relaxation has an effect on reducing blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 DM.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major public health problem and contributes to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Routine primary health care data can provide information on the development of hypertension cases and support evidence-based promotive and preventive strategies. This study aimed to describe the trend of identified hypertension cases based on primary health care data and to describe household smoking behavior in Gampong Miruk, Aceh Besar Regency. A retrospective descriptive design was used with secondary data from First-Level Outpatient Care reports at the Gampong Miruk Polindes for 2024–2025, community health screening data for 2026, and the 2025 household Clean and Healthy Living Behavior survey. Data were analyzed descriptively using frequencies, percentages, and trend presentation. The number of identified hypertension cases increased from 6 cases in 2024 to 8 cases in 2025 and 18 cases in 2026. However, the increase in 2026 should be interpreted cautiously because the data were obtained through community health screening, which had broader detection coverage than routine service records. The household survey showed that 81 of 105 households (77.1%) did not meet the indicator of not smoking inside the house, while 24 households (22.9%) met the indicator. These findings indicate that hypertension and household exposure to tobacco smoke require attention in Gampong Miruk. Strengthening periodic hypertension screening, family-based health promotion, and smoke-free home initiatives is recommended as part of community-level noncommunicable disease prevention and control.

Abstract

The neonatal period is vulnerable to various health problems, so promotive and preventive efforts are needed, one of which is through complementary therapy methods. However, maternal knowledge regarding various types of complementary therapy is still very limited, which can influence the desire to choose the appropriate therapy for the baby's needs. This study aims to disseminate the influence of education on the selection of complementary therapy types for babies. This research method uses a Quasi Experiment design with a one-group pretest and posttest design. The sample in the study amounted to 20 mothers who had babies and were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a knowledge level questionnaire and a checklist for selecting complementary therapy types, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study showed an increase in knowledge and the majority of mothers chose complementary therapy (KMC) with a value (p = 0.001). In conclusion, there is an influence of the level of knowledge on the selection of complementary therapy types for babies. Education about complementary therapy can be used as a protective strategy in maternal and child health services to increase knowledge and support maternal decision-making in choosing safe and appropriate complementary therapy for babies.

Abstract

Ossa pedis radiography is an important diagnostic procedure for evaluating fractures, structural abnormalities, and pathological conditions of the foot bones. Image quality is strongly influenced by exposure factors, particularly kilovoltage (kV) and milliampere-second (mAs), which must be optimized to ensure diagnostic quality while keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable. This study aimed to determine the optimal exposure factor combination for ossa pedis radiography using Computed Radiography (CR). An experimental design was applied with tube voltage fixed at 60 kV and mAs varied at 2, 3, 4, and 5 mAs. Radiographic examinations were performed using the anteroposterior (AP) projection according to standard procedures. Image quality was evaluated based on CR S-value and G-value parameters and visual assessment of density, contrast, and sharpness of bony anatomical details. The results showed that 60 kV and 4 mAs produced the best image quality, with S-value and G-value within the diagnostic range and an optimal balance of density, contrast, and anatomical sharpness. Therefore, 60 kV and 4 mAs is recommended as the optimal exposure setting for ossa pedis radiography using CR while supporting radiation dose optimization

Abstract

Reproductive health is an important component of adolescent health, characterized by various biological, psychological, and social changes. According to the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) for adolescents, adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health remains largely focused on physical changes, such as voice changes in males (76%) and menstruation in females (87.7%). This condition indicates the need for more comprehensive and accessible reproductive health education. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using flashcards in improving adolescents’ reproductive health knowledge. The study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 60 respondents. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire administered before and after education using flashcards. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in the mean reproductive health knowledge score from 56.35 in the pretest to 88.85 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of < 0.001, indicating a significant increase in knowledge after the educational intervention. Therefore, flashcards are effective as a reproductive health education medium for adolescents because they present information visually in an engaging, simple, and memorable manner.

Abstract

In 2024, the national prevalence of wasting in Indonesia (7.4%) had not yet reached the national target of 7%. Tangerang City ranked second among districts/cities in Banten Province for the highest prevalence of wasting. This study aimed to analyze the associations between energy intake, protein intake, and exclusive breastfeeding history with wasting among children under five in Neglasari District, Tangerang City. A cross-sectional study design was employed. The samples were selected using simple random sampling from children aged 12–59 months. Wasting was defined as a weight-for-height Z-score (WHZ) of <−2 standard deviations. Data on energy and protein intake were collected using two non-consecutive 24-hour dietary recalls, while exclusive breastfeeding history was obtained through a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Energy intake and exclusive breastfeeding history were significantly associated with wasting (p<0.05), whereas protein intake was not significantly associated (p>0.05). Strengthening balanced nutrition education for mothers of young children, promoting exclusive breastfeeding from pregnancy through the first six months of life, and regular growth monitoring are recommended to support the prevention of wasting.

Abstract

Background: Diabetic ulcer is a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus that may lead to amputation if not managed properly. The wound healing process requires objective monitoring, one of which is the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT) which assesses 13 wound aspects. Objective: To report the application of BWAT in monitoring wound healing post-debridement in patients with diabetic ulcers. Method: A case report involving two patients with diabetic ulcers treated at Teluk Pucung District General Hospital (Class D). Monitoring was conducted for three consecutive days using BWAT. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews, physical examinations, laboratory tests, and medical records. Results: The first subject (Mrs. M) showed a decrease in BWAT score from 30 to 24 within three days, indicating wound healing progress through reduced necrotic tissue, increased granulation, and epithelialization. The second subject (Mr. T) remained high (53 to 50), reflecting slow wound healing due to poor glycemic control, infection, and diabetic nephropathy. Conclusion: BWAT is effective as an objective tool for monitoring wound conditions post-debridement in diabetic ulcers.
