Abstract

The author developed an informational video of using Livin’ Merchant during the internship at Bank Mandiri Area Purwokerto in the Transaction Banking Retail division as their focus on Livin’ Merchant with the aim as a guidance to explain about the features of Livin’ Merchant for customers. Additionally, the project was produced to find out any obstacles encountered in promoting and assisting customers with Livin’ Merchant. There are three methods were used by the author, namely observation, interview, and documentation. The interview conducted to enhanced the reliability of the information gathered. The documentation was conducted to provide data documentation to gain a clearer understanding within company. By gained data through the guide book of Livin’ Merchant, the author developing the informational video that reflects the features and benefits of Livin’ Merchant with combination of visuals and narration. Production including video recording, voice recording, and voice recording. The production process of developing an informational video including were pre-production that including generating idea, scriptwriting, and storyboarding. Post-production including final stage to finalized the edit to make sure everything aligned with the storyboard and script. Obstacle that author faced during developing the informational video were the lacked of generating idea and the platform for uploading the author's product was not available. The author overcomes the obstacles with gathering feedbacks from mentors and supervisors to gained ideas about Livin’ Merchant.

Abstract

This study employs an analytic review approach to examine the thematic construction in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, focusing on its portrayal of companionship, loneliness, and the fragility of dreams. These themes are explored as narrative mechanisms that reflect the social and psychological realities of marginalized individuals during the Great Depression. The analysis investigates how Steinbeck's depiction of human relationships and aspirations serves as a lens for understanding broader issues of alienation, economic disenfranchisement, and emotional resilience. Utilizing recent theoretical frameworks from literary and cultural studies, the study systematically interprets character interactions, plot developments, and symbolic elements to uncover the deeper meanings embedded in the text. Through qualitative thematic analysis, the novella is shown to articulate a complex emotional landscape in which hope and despair coexist. The bond between George and Lennie emerges as a counterpoint to the dominant atmosphere of isolation, while the recurring motif of unattainable dreams underscores the characters’ internal and external struggles. Findings suggest that Steinbeck’s work maintains enduring relevance by offering insight into universal human experiences such as connection, sacrifice, and the pursuit of meaning under systemic pressures. The study concludes that Of Mice and Men is not only a historical narrative but also a profound commentary on the human condition, demonstrating literature’s capacity to foster empathy and critical reflection across generations.

Abstract

Translation quality is an essential aspect to ensure that the message is accurately transferred and easily understood. Nonetheless, there are still discrepancies in the pupils' translation performance, which calls for more investigation. Thus, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the students' accuracy, readability, and acceptability when translating texts from English into Indonesian. Using a descriptive quantitative methodology, the study was carried out with students from Nahdlatul Ulama University of Purwokerto's English Education Study Program. The three components of translation quality were measured by analyzing the data from the students' translation assignments using a scoring rubric. This study used document analysis assessing 10 students' translation products. The findings indicate that the students' translation quality is categorized good. The results show that pupils generally perform well while translating. Readability had the highest average score (2.82), followed by accuracy (2.58) and acceptability (2.61), suggesting that the majority of students can produce translations that are understandable and straightforward. The lower accuracy and acceptability scores, however, indicate that some students may still struggle to preserve semantic equivalency and generate natural statements in the target language

Abstract

This study analyzes the expression of emotion in the poem "Escape from the Pursuit of Opas" by Syekh Sidi Jamadi using a psycholinguistic approach using the Sapir–Whorf perspective that emphasizes the relationship between language and thought. The research problem focuses on how the language used in the poem reflects the poet's psychological condition, emotional experiences, and inner struggles when facing social pressures and colonial threats. Previous studies have mostly discussed classical poetry from the aspects of stylistics, semiotics, religion, and phonology, but have not examined the relationship between language and the poet's inner state psycholinguistically, so there is a gap that needs to be filled. This study aims to understand how language choices convey emotions such as fear, anxiety, despair, resignation, and hope. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data in the form of verses of the poem analyzed through in-depth reading, identification of emotional diction, and contextual interpretation. The results of the study show that the poet's language through repetition, metaphor, and choice of emotionally rich diction reflects his inner state and thought process. This study confirms that language does not only function to narrate external events, but also to represent psychological and emotional experiences, demonstrating the relevance of the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis in understanding the cognitive and affective dimensions of traditional Minangkabau poetry. Abstract

This study investigates grammatical errors in the use of Simple Past and Past Continuous tenses among veterinary vocational students in comic strip writing tasks. Grammatical competence plays a crucial role in effective communication; however, many English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners experience difficulties in applying tense forms consistently in contextualized writing. The aim of this study is to identify the types and patterns of errors produced by students and to examine how comic strip tasks function as a medium for revealing learners’ grammatical competence. The study employed a descriptive qualitative design with quantitative support using an error analysis approach. The data were collected from students’ written dialogues in veterinary-themed comic strips and analyzed based on error classification frameworks. The findings reveal that tense inconsistency is the most dominant error pattern, particularly the shift between past and present forms within the same narrative. In addition, students demonstrated confusion in verb form selection, limited ability to use Past Continuous meaningfully, and difficulties in sentence structure, especially in question formation. The results also indicate that comic strip writing serves not only as a learning medium but also as an effective diagnostic tool for identifying authentic grammatical weaknesses. Overall, the study suggests that grammar instruction in ESP contexts should emphasize contextualized and meaningful language use rather than isolated rule memorization.
