Abstract

This research is entitled "Creating Bilingual Educational Booklet as the Implementation of the Tagline 'Sinau Maring Alam, Ora Bakal Nggawe Kowe Gela' in Taman Botani Baturraden". The main purpose of the job training is to create a bilingual educational booklet in Taman Botani Baturraden. This booklet was created to implement the tagline of Taman Botani Baturraden, that is 'Sinau Maring Alam, Ora Bakal Nggawe Kowe Gela', which means learning from nature will not make you disappointed. Moreover, the learning media of Taman Botani Baturraden was unavailable before. The creation of this booklet could help visitors to know the plants in Taman Botani Baturraden, which means that this booklet aligned with the tagline and educational theme brought by Taman Botani Baturraden. In making the booklet, the author used four methods, there were observation, documentation, staff interview, and design making. The observation was carried out by the author to observe and obtain data on plants in Taman Botani Baturraden. Documentation was carried out to get the best photos of plants as visual support in the booklet. For the staff interview stage, the author found more information about plants in the booklet. Then, the last stage is making a booklet design using the basic green color as a representation of plants in Taman Botani Baturraden. During the booklet making process, the author encountered several obstacles in the process. The obstacle is in determining the color and font. This is because Taman Botani Baturraden did not have a specific color palette and fonts for their products, so the author studied color and font theory again to determine it. Then, not all plants were in bloom, so the author could not document the plants thoroughly. The solution to these obstacles was to discuss with job training supervisors and supervisors in Taman Botani Baturraden.

Abstract

This research delves into the subtitling strategies of expressive utterances in “The Little Mermaid (2023)”, employing a descriptive qualitative method for analyzing 40 instances of expressive utterances. The subtitling strategies identified encompass transfer (52.50%), condensation (15.00%), deletion and paraphrase (10.00% each), expansion (7.50%), and transcription (5.00%). The transfer strategy, being the most frequently used, serves as a crucial tool in enhancing the clarity of expressive utterances. The relationship between expressive and strategic types lies in the translator's deliberate selection of subtitling strategies to convey nuances and emotions inherent in each expressive type. This suggests a strategic alignment between the nature of the expressive utterance and the chosen subtitling technique. The findings emphasize the translator's nuanced decision-making process in conveying emotions effectively in subtitles. This research's unique focus on a specific film and comprehensive analysis of subtitling strategies to the understanding of film subtitle translation

Abstract

This job training report contains the internship conducted at Triam Wittaya School from January 1st to March 7th, 2024. Triam Wittaya School is a secondary school located in Sakho Tai, Mayo, Pattani, Thailand. The author chose Triam Wittaya School for the internship after successfully passing the selection process for an overseas internship program. The main goals of this internship were to teach English to the students at Triam Wittaya School and to create highlight videos for promoting the school, in line with their marketing needs. This was particularly important because most of the school's existing promotional videos were either livestreams or a collage of photos made into video. The methods used during the internship included observation, interview documentation, and editing. The author started by observing the school's Facebook page, then conducted interviews with the internship supervisor about upcoming events. Throughout the internship, the author documented various activities, identifying key areas to record, and deepening the author's understanding of observation and interview techniques. The editing process involved choosing the right visual content, like video clips and photos, and selecting back song music that fit the atmosphere of each event. The author used all these methods to create promotional videos. The result was cinematic recap videos, each about three minutes long, set to music. These videos were then uploaded to the school's Facebook page, with the hope of boosting the school's marketing efforts. The author faced some challenges during the internship, mainly culture shock due to the language differences and the rare use of English. However, the author managed to overcome these obstacles by learning some basics of the local language, using body language to communicate, and asking the supervisor for translation when needed.
