Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze and to identify kinds of errors made by students of Junior High School in constructing negative and interrogative sentences in simple present tense. This research used comprehensive literature review from various source. By the result, it is informed the proportion of students’ simple present error in constructing interrogative sentence based on surface strategy taxonomy, the percentage omission is 80.9%, addition is 0.20%, misformation is 0,47%, and misordering is 0.62%. so that the most common error committed by the students in constructing negative and interrogative sentence is omission error. The finding of this research provide a literature for English teachers and also for students, should pay more attention to writing teaching and learning process and also stress on the material in which difficult for the students. They may use a new method in teaching learning process especially in teaching grammar about simple present tense .

Abstract

The study deals with a background of problems that still lack the ability of learners to receive learning because of invalid materials, impractical methods and ineffective material delivery. One way to overcome the problem is to change the learning model so that learners can receive learning well. The study aims to solve the problem of learners' learning methods and to improve the learning performance of learners with plomp study models. The study is done with a design design of learning, a plomp study model consisting of a pleminary research, phototyping phase, and enforcing phase with a valid, practical, and effective teaching device. This study is based on the development of the plomp study model with a sample of thirty students at the country's in 12 sinjai high school, which is an improvement in the study of islamic trainees, especially those being tested with islamic test analyses.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the types of code-switching used by the students in the English as a foreign language classroom interaction. The research employed descriptive qualitative research design. The subjects were the students of English language education program. All of them used Papuan Malay language in their daily life but in class they used Indonesian language as mother tongue and English language as target language. The researcher findings that there are five types of code-switching that used by the students in EFL classroom interaction. Those Inter – sentential, Intra – sentential, and tag switching. For each type, the switch frequently used was as a clause, then as a word, and the last was as a sentence. They used them to clarify what they said because they tended to repeat or tried to translate the words again, and another reason was switching the words into the daily language was one of the ways to use to continue speaking. The impact of code-switching on TEFL was extremely beneficial since it may be utilized as a method or tactic in teaching English content, pushing students to talk, evaluating problems, and encouraging students to keep speaking in EFL classroom.

Abstract

This research aims to discover the causes of the language learners of English Education study program in Islamic Institute of Muhammadiyah Sinjai procrastination behaviour. This research is categorized as a phenomenological research by using qualitative approach. The subject of this research is the students of English Education Study Program of IAI Muhammadiyah Sinjai. The techniques of data collection used are observation, interview, and documentation and the technique of data analysis is using Miles and Huberman theory. The result shows that the students are intended to do the academic procrastination behaviour which caused by: (1) delay in starting and completing task at hand, (2) delay in doing assignments, (3) time gap between planned and actual performance, and (4) doing other activities that are more fun than doing the task that must be done. Abstract

Speaking is not only conveying certain meanings but sometimes producing utterances has other meanings, speaking often suddenly changes thoughts, this then results in non-fluency in English. The purpose of this study was to find out the types of hesitation in speaking English in the English language education study program and to find out the factors of students' hesitation in speaking English in the English language education study program Classes of Islamic University of Ahmad Dahlan Sinjai. The type of research used in this research is phenomenological research, qualitative research pays attention to qualitative phenomena related to quality or diversity. Individual beliefs, experiences, and systems of meaning are of particular concern to qualitative researchers. The results of this study found that the most common doubts were fillers that were not lexical such as uhh, err, ee, aah, umm, and ehmm. The slightest hesitation is that a false start must be traced back. And also, there are nine types of doubt that occur viz 1).Silent Pause 2).Filler, 3).Repeat, 4).False Start, (Unrestricted), 5). False Start (Retraced) 6).Corrections, 7). nterjection, 8). Stutters, and 9). Slip of tongue. Based on previous observations, it can be concluded that all students of Islamic University of Ahmad Dahlan Sinjai who are the object of research show hesitation when speaking English.

Abstract

This study aims to know the influence of teacher-students' proximity towards student activeness in learning English at MTs. Darul Ihsan Salohe. The type of this research is descriptive quantitative research. The sample of this research is 64 students. The data collection techniques are questionnaires, observations, and documentation, with data analysis techniques using Normality test, linearity test, simple linear regression, and T-Test. The results of this research can be proven from the results of the first normality test, the significant value of 0,200 > 0,05 it can be concluded that the data is normally distributed. The linearity test shows that the significance value of deviation from linearity is 0,179. It can be concluded that the deviation significance value of 0,179 >0,05 means that there is a relationship between the X variable (proximity) and the Y variable (Students Activeness). Then, the hypothesis test through simple linear regression that there is an influence between the X and Y variables because the significant value is 0,0001 < 0,05. Second, the T-test shows a significant value of 0,0001 < 0,05, which means H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. There is a 38% significant influence of proximity towards students activeness.

Abstract

Today, in higher education, as at the university level, the learning process is still evolving. The objective of this study is to determine how to use the brainstorming concept to help students, particularly those who are already in semester 5, improve their English language skills. In this way, knowledge that may explicitly examine the degree of function is studied and explored by students in order to help them understand the concept of learning. Research design is use quantitative and survey as an approach whereas observation and questionnaire to collecting data. The result shows that brainstorming method was effective in impoving the students’ language skills especially for the 5 grade English learning program.Brainstorming talks about two possibilities of memory, short-term memory (STM) and long-term memory (LTM), as it is said to stimulate the minds of learners to activate creative thinking skills to build new ideas by connecting new knowledge with old, to build new links, to rearrange or reverse knowledge, to make connections between different concepts, to form make new connections or apply knowledge to a new field for learners to strike a balance.This research recommended the subsequent investigation to develop the method especially brainstorming for improving the students’ English skills.

Abstract

The widespread use of mobile device technology and the release of new mobile device applications like Telegram offers a new innovation in integrating technology in language learning. Accordingly, this study intends to evaluate the Telegram BOT's efficacy in enhancing writing abilities at a high school in Palopo, South Sulawesi, Indonesia . It applied pre-experimental with a single group pre- and post-test design as its focal point. The population of this study is 36 first-grade students and took 14 students as the sample randomly. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 22 described statistically and evaluated. The result reveals that the use of telegram bot effective to enhance the students’ writing performance. It is proved that the student's mean score in post test (83, 79) was greater than in pre-test (64, 79) and the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) is 0.000<0.05. It indicated that using the Telegram BOT Application as a learning medium improves the writing performance. Students can learn independently via Telegram BOT because the material has been provided all with detailed instructions in one of its features called Bot API.

Abstract

Personality is considered as one of the internal factors that has an impact on students' ability to learn languages. This research explores the impact of personality type on their English writing abilities, with a focus on Introverts. The test aims for objectivity, clarity, and precision, with formal notes and adherence to conventional academic structures and grammatical rules. Qualitative descriptive were used in this research. The sample for this research was students of the Seventh Semester English Language Education Writing Class of 2022/2023 at the University of Papua. The instruments used to collect data were the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Test and Interview. Researchers use purposive sampling where the sample to be interviewed must have a high percentage of introverts. To find out, researchers distributed the MBTI test link to 20 samples. Of the 20 samples who took the MBTI test, there were 9 samples who were classified as introverts. furthermore, from the 9 samples, the researcher chose 4 samples to be interviewed. The results of this research reveal that every student who has an introverted personality does not necessarily have good writing skills, but the habits of students who have an introverted personality such as reading non-fiction or fiction books and writing stories about everyday life can help the students to improve their writing skills

Abstract

This research sets the goals to find out the form of gamification in the learning evaluation on the learning outcomes of English Education students and the effectiveness of using gamification in the learning evaluation on the learning outcomes of English Education students. English Book Grammar Application and Cue Card used as the media in implementing the gamification. Quantitative research with pre-experimental was conducted in this research. The research was conducted at English Education Study Program Islamic Institute of Muhammadiyah (IAIM) Sinjai and English Education Study Program of Makassar Islamic University (UIM). The sample of this research were 25 students from IAIM Sinjai and UIM by using purposive sampling technique. Test and documentation techniques were combined to obtain the data. The collected data then analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistic. The result showed that: (1) the form of gamification in the learning evaluation of English Education students using the English Book Grammar application and Cue Card is like playing the game with its components, such as grouping the students, explaining the rules, giving question to the students, the students competing answer the question by using English Book Grammar App and Cue Card, scoring the result, and giving rewards to the winner. (2) the use of gamification in the learning evaluation is effective on the learning outcomes of English Education students. It can be seen from the result of data analysis by using t-test where sig. 0,000 < 0,05 means H1 is accepted.
