The sample of this study were 24 students of class XI A MAN 2 Bulukumba. The samples were taken using purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using pre-experimental. Based on the results of data analysis, it was obtained that the t-test value was 14.11 and t-table was 1.714 at the significance level of 0.05. Thus, it could be assumed that H₁ is accepted, which indicates that there is a significant increase in the students' abilities before and after being taught with the implementation self-directed dialogue. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of self-directed dialogue was effective for improving students' speaking ability in grade eleventh of MAN 2 Bulukumba in the 2023/2024 academic year.

The research setting was at SMA Negeri 3 Tana Toraja with a population consisting of 2 classes in eleventh grade. In data collection, samples were selected using purposive random sampling, and class X1 A was taken as the selected sample with 30 students and 1 teacher as the interviewee. The results showed that students were very enthusiastic about the lessons presented based on observation notes. Furthermore, students understood more quickly and their vocabulary increased a lot with the bilingualism method, students feel comfortable in learning, eliminate their doubts when asked, and understand the lesson more quickly. Abstract

The researcher investigated the teacher's strategies for teaching English at SMPLB Kota Sorong. This research aimed to discover teaching strategies English teachers apply in teaching English to deaf students. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was an English teacher teaching English to 8 deaf students. A total sampling was used to select the participants by conducting observation and interviews to gather data. Data analysis techniques were data reduction, data analysis, and conclusion. The researcher discovered two main strategies as the teaching strategies used in teaching English to deaf students, repetition, and visualization strategy. They were acquired to optimize the learning process in the deaf students’ classroom. In addition, if the deaf students were not yet capable of learning independently, the teacher would tolerate their conditions and abilities. This strategy benefited the teacher in guiding and controlling the material learned to improve the students' understanding. Because deaf students learn through their eyes first, using visual media or natural objects can assist them in learning English effectively.

Abstract

Vocabulary teaching, especially in early childhood, must be emphasized, because having sufficient vocabulary will make it easier for children to communicate. The Lontara script is a regional language that is now almost forgotten by the younger generation; therefore, this research tries to integrate the Lontara script in learning English vocabulary. The type of research used in this research is quantitative research with experimental methods. In this study, researchers used the One-Group Pre-Test-Post-Test Design. The data obtained can be interpreted to be in positive ranks, with an average value (mean ranks) equal to 24.50, and a total value (sum of ranks) equal to 1176.00. This means that there is an increase in post-test scores after treatment, which means that the integration of Lontara Bugis script in learning English vocabulary is effective in improving understanding of English vocabulary for fifth-grade students at MI Darul Abrar Balle Village, MIS Arrahman Labuaja, and MIS UKI Siputanre Cakkela, which are in Kahu District, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi Province.

Abstract

This article examines the English native speaker fallacy and its implications in the field of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) in Indonesia. The NS fallacy refers to the belief that Native English-Speaking Teachers (NESTs) are inherently superior and more competent in teaching English, disregarding the importance of their Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PKC). Through a synthesis research methodology, this article involves examining, integrating, and synthesizing existing conceptual and empirical studies related to teacher professional identity, NESTs, TEFL, and its implementation in Indonesia. The findings suggest that the notion of standard English taught in EFL classrooms should be questioned, as it is influenced by linguistic imperialism and marginalizes World Englishes. In Indonesia, the dominance of standardized English tests further reinforces the perception that NESTs are more competent in teaching standard English. To challenge native speakerism, the article argues for a shift in focus from linguistic proficiency to pedagogical expertise when evaluating NESTs' qualifications. Emphasizing the value of Pedagogical Content Knowledge can lead to a more inclusive and equitable hiring process, where NESTs are assessed based on their teaching capabilities and experience. By prioritizing pedagogical expertise, educational institutions can promote a culturally responsive learning environment that embraces linguistic diversity and enhances the quality of English language education in a globalized world.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the significance of applying the RAP technique in learning activities in reading classrooms. The researcher employed a quantitative experimental research strategy for this study. The participants in this study were students in classes IX-A and IX-B at SMP Gajah Mada Medan who were in their ninth grade. Selecting samples, researchers used the term cluster random sampling by choosing two classes. There are 60 students total; there are 15 pupils in each class. Two groups of students were formed; the experimental group and the control group. The control group was instructed in traditional ways, whereas the experimental group received therapy (the RAP approach). An exam with multiple choice questions is the tool used to gather data. To assess the data, the t-test formula was used. The data was evaluated using the t-test procedure. The analysis's findings demonstrate that, at a significance level of 0.05 and with 28 degrees of freedom (df), those served exceed the t-table (3.86> 2.44). This indicates that students' learning scores have been positively impacted by the use of the RAP technique in the teaching and learning process, particularly when it comes to the reading of news articles for class.

Abstract

This study explores the students' perspectives of Grammarly and its effectiveness in improving their writing skills. Using a mixed methods approach with 60 participants (53% male, 47% female), the research collected quantitative data through a questionnaire distributed via Google Form and qualitative data through interviews with nine students. Integrating quantitative and qualitative findings revealed a generally positive view of Grammarly. Quantitative findings show that 63% of students found Grammarly useful, and 72% agreed that Grammarly feedback significantly improved their writing quality. Additionally, 52% of students appreciated detailed feedback, and 63% reported that Grammarly helped them better understand grammar rules. In relation to the perceived use of ease, the study revealed that 55% of students found Grammarly easy to use, and 61% agreed that Grammarly provided clear feedback on errors. Qualitative data confirms these findings, highlighting Grammarly's effectiveness in correcting mistakes, enhancing grammar understanding, and increasing students writing confidence. Students also valued Grammarly as being easy to use and allowing them to simplify the writing process, save time, and make writing tasks more manageable. However, some of Grammarly's advanced features require a paid premium subscription, which may be an obstacle for some users. The study concludes that integrating technology with Grammarly in EFL writing instruction offers significant benefits, including increased confidence in writing, better understanding of Grammarly, and efficient feedback.
