Abstract

Abstract. The objetives of the present research were to determine relationship of phytoplankton abundance and community structure with environmental factors. The research was conducted in twelve stations along East Surabaya’s Coastal Waters. The samplings were represented early dry season (May-July 2013). Regression Correlation Analisis and Principle Component Analysis were involved to determine the relationship between community structure of phytoplankton and nutrient availability as well as other environmental parameters. The results showed that the concentration of Nitrate (NO3-N) was ranged from 1.80mg/L to 7.31 mg/L while Phosphate (PO4-P) was 0.20 – 4.75 mg/L. The phytoplankton abundance was varied between 3300 cell/L to 47000 cell/L. The highest phytoplankton abundance was found in the estuary and deacreased toward the sea areas. The dDiversity and evennes indices were low category, while dominance index was found to be relatively high, where Skeletonema sp. was predominant. Diversity index was not correlated significantly with nutrient availability, while there were a significant correlation between phytoplankton abundance and environment parameters namely salinity, DO and brighnessKeywords : phytoplankton abundance; oseanography factor; spatial analysis; coastal watersAbstrak.

Abstract

Abstract. Numerical hydrodynamics model MOHID based on General Ocean Turbulence Model formula was used to study the tidal current in Makassar waters. The data used in this model are tidal elevation and bathymetry data from GEBCO. The tidal current simulation was conducted for 30 days. Model simulation results show that the tidal current velocity ranged between 0,001 m/s – 0,012 m/s. The current velocity during neap tide is smaller than the velocity during spring tide. The pattern of tidal current in Makassar waters is dominantly flows towards westward and then turned heading northward direction. The simulation result of tide-induced residual current in verification point shows that the flows is ebb-dominant at a rate of 0,005 m/s heading westward direction.

Abstract

Papua island has the largest mangrove forest area in Indonesia, reaching 1,350,600.00 Ha which accounts for half of the entire area of mangrove forests in Indonesia. One of the locations with a fairly extensive mangrove forest in the Jayapura area is in Youtefa Bay. Although mangroves have large environmental potential, local people use the forest as building materials, food, fishing tools, and medicines. Mangrove forests have an active role in maintaining global climate stability in the world, forest vegetation will fix CO2 through the process of photosynthesis. Mangrove forests per hectare can store up to four times more carbon than other tropical forests worldwide. This research aims to estimate the amount of carbon stock Rhizophora mucronata can store in mangrove forests in Youtefa Bay, particulary in Tobati, Enggros and Entrop Villages, Jayapura, Papua. The method used in this study was using Allometric Equations to estimate the biomass carbon from Rhizophora mucronata and compared to three different satellite imagery algorithms. The research results showed that the biomass of Rhizophora mucronata stands in Entrop Village was the highest and the lowest in Enggros Village. In addition, the results of measurements of carbon stocks in Tobati and Enggros Villages showed that the values were similar, only 0.23 kgC/m2 with carbon stocks in Entrop Village reaching 19.46 kgC/m2. Based on the results of measuring satellite imagery with three different algorithms, it was found that using the EVI algorithm produced the smallest Standard Error of Estimate, which was 1.63 kg C/m2. The estimated total carbon in Youtefa Bay is 213,424.69 kg C/m2.Keywords:AllometricCarbon StockRhizophora mucronataYoutefa Bay

Abstract

Barramundi Lates calcarifer is a high economic value fish in Indonesia and Southeast Asia countries. However, the aquaculture system still experiences problems, including the high cost of production, specifically from feed, which is due to its relatively slow growth and low digestibility. Therefore, this study aims to determine alternative ingredients that can be used in the fish diet to improve feed utilization and growth performance using pumpkin flour Cucurbita moschata. A completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications was adopted in this study. The tested diet was (A) diet without pumpkin flour (control), (B) with 5% (C) 10% (D) 15% (E) 20%, and (F) 25%. The size of the Barramundi samples was 3-4 cm on average and the body weight was 1-3 g at the stocking density of 15 fish/container. The fish fed as much as 10% body weight daily, which is divided into 2 times, namely 08.00 AM and 4.00 PM for 60 days. The results showed that the addition of pumpkin flour had a significant effect on weight gain, daily and specific growth rate, survival, feed efficiency, conversion ratio, and carcass protein (P0.05). The diet with 5% pumpkin flour gave the best results over other treatments, with an average weight gain of 0.761 g, feed conversion of 1.578, feed efficiency of 63.455%, and a daily and specific growth rate of 0.012 g and 0.738%, respectively, The highest carcass protein content was found in the control treatment with a value of 18.210%, which was not significantly different from the 5% pumpkin flour treatment. Therefore, it is concluded that pumpkin flour can be added to the Barramundi diet as much as 5%. Keywords: Barramundi, Snapper, pumpkin, feed utilization

Abstract

The shipyard industry plays an important role in supporting fishing activities and efforts to fulfill animal protein for humans. It is an industry that has an orientation to produce a product in the form of a ship. There are two types of shipyards, which are offshore buildings and floating buildings - both are used to build new ships and repair old ships. Based on the level of technology used by the shipyard industry, it is divided into modern, traditional, and semi-modern shipyards. Its productivity can see the advantages and disadvantages of a shipyard to ensure this industry remains to exist. Several factors need to be taken into account to increase the shipyard productivity, including land or location, human resources, technology, and materials. Keywords:ProductivityShipyardTechnology

Abstract

Efforts to cultivate bileh fish (Rasbora maninjau) experience obstacles in providing seeds due to controlled reproduction in aquaculture containers is still difficult to do. This is due to the slow maturation of fish gonads, which takes a long time. Internal factors, including the hormonal system, influence the reproductive cycle and maturation of fish gonads. This study aims to determine the effect of PMSG (Oodev) hormone administration through feed on the reproductive performance of bileh fish. Experimental research method with CRD experimental design (completely randomized design). The experiment consisted of 4 treatments (P) with three replications. The treatments were PMSG hormone (Oodev) with different doses, namely 0 (P1), 0.5 (P2), 1 (P3), and 2 ml/kg feed (P4). The research phase included the preparation of containers and fish, preparing hormones and feed, rearing, and data collection. Parameters taken and evaluated include gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI), estradiol concentration, fecundity, and egg diameter. Data were processed and analyzed using statistics (Anova). The results showed that the administration of PMSG hormone (Oodev) through feed had a significant effect on GSI, HSI, estradiol concentration, fecundity, and egg diameter (P0.05). The best treatment was P3 (1 ml/kg) with a GSI value of 8.25%, HSI of 0.41%, estradiol level of 22.46pg/mL, fecundity of 3207 eggs, and egg diameter of 0.85mm.Keywords:PMSGOodevPerformanceReproductionBileh fish

Abstract

Diopatra species are members of the family Onuphidae (Polychaeta, Annelida) that are widely used as fishing bait. These tubicolous worms are common in particular mangrove areas of Cilacap. However, biological aspects of Diopatra sp. inhabiting the areas have not been studied. In the present work, we investigated several biological aspects of the worms, including the segment number, the body weight and the sex ratio, based on Diopatra samples collected from four mangrove habitats of Jeruklegi Village, Cilacap Regency, between June and July 2021. The results show that the average numbers of segments of Diopatra sp. obtained ranged from 195 to 216 segments, whereas the average body weights ranged from 2.03 to 3.12 g, and the average sex ratios ranged from 0.5 to 1.3. In general, the biological aspects of Diopatra sp. between sampling sites were relatively similar; this can be attributed to the similar environmental conditions at all sampling sites, including salinity (25–32 ppt), water temperature (30–32 oC), dissolved oxygen (6.4–8.8 ppm) and pH (7). While Diopatra worm farming is necessary so that local people do not rely on natural catch, a further taxonomic study is required to reveal the identity of this economically important local species. Keywords:Biological aspectDiopatraMangrove habitatPolychaetesTubicolous worms
