Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a common median nerve compression neuropathy that causes pain, tingling, and impaired hand function. Various conservative approaches have been used, including ultrasound therapy, nerve-gliding exercises, phonophoresis, and ultrasound-guided injection techniques. This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of ultrasound-based interventions in the management of mild to moderate CTS. Methods: This review analyzed eight Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) studies published between 2021 and 2025. The literature sources were obtained from international journals indexed in Scopus (Q1–Q3). The evaluated outcome parameters included pain (VAS), hand function (BCTQ-SSS/FSS), nerve conduction (ENMG, DML, SNCV), and median nerve cross-sectional area (CSA). Results: Most studies reported that ultrasound-based interventions—either as a therapeutic modality (underwater ultrasound, phonophoresis, or combined with exercise) or as guidance for injection procedures (hydrodissection and transverse carpal ligament release)—produced significant improvements in symptoms and hand function. The combination of ultrasound with splinting and exercise therapy yielded superior outcomes compared to single-modality treatment. Ultrasound-guided hydrodissection also demonstrated improvements in nerve parameters and symptom reduction in the medium term (6–12 months). Conclusion: Ultrasound therapy is effective, safe, and relevant as both a conservative and minimally invasive interventional approach for managing mild to moderate CTS. Its combination with exercise or nerve-gliding techniques enhances clinical and electrophysiological outcomes.

Abstract

One of the leading causes of long-term disability is stroke, which impacts motor function impairment, spasticity, balance, and decreased ability to perform functional activities. One way to maximize functional recovery and patient independence in post-stroke rehabilitation is by using electrotherapy stimulation modalities. The purpose of this literature review is to evaluate the effectiveness of various electrotherapy stimulation methods on the recovery of patients who have experienced stroke. Literature research on the use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS), and transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) was used in the writing methodology. The results showed that electrotherapy stimulation improves motor function, reduces spasticity, increases functional activities, and improves the quality of life of post-stroke patients. The results suggest that this modality can be used as an additional component of post-stroke patient rehabilitation programs. Electrotherapy stimulation can be used both alone or in combination with conventional therapy.

Abstract

ACL reconstruction is a common surgery done to restore knee stability, but many patients still experience pain, muscle weakness, and reduced function after the operation. Exercise therapy is a key part of rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction. This review looked at ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that evaluated different types of exercises, including neuromuscular training, progressive resistance exercise, visuo-motor training, aquatic proprioceptive exercise, and blood flow restriction training, during the middle to later stages of rehabilitation. Each study had an intervention period of 6 to 20 weeks, and used tools like KOOS, IKDC, SF-36, and Hop Test to measure results. The analysis showed that all types of exercise significantly improved muscle strength, balance, proprioception, and knee function, while also reducing pain and fear of movement. Neuromuscular and progressive resistance exercises were found to be the most effective in improving muscle symmetry and functional performance. Evidence-based exercise approaches, patient education, and the use of digital tools (mHealth) and hydrotherapy also helped increase patient adherence and quality of life. Therefore, structured, progressive, and multimodal exercise programs are recommended as the main strategy in ACL reconstruction rehabilitation to speed up recovery and prevent future injuries.

Abstract

In the field of musculoskeletal rehabilitation, the quality of physiotherapy in the treatment of myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is crucial because it influences the effectiveness of therapy and patient satisfaction. If we want to improve the quality of care, it is crucial to understand the effectiveness of various therapy methods. This literature review summarizes studies that have been conducted to evaluate how ultrasound and deep tissue massage (also known as deep tissue massage) reduce pain and musculoskeletal function in patients with MPS. In a study by Chen et al. (2025), ultrasound-guided myofascial hydrodissection (UMHT) was found to be comparable in effectiveness to 1% lidocaine trigger point injection. Both methods have been shown to reduce pain and improve function without significant side effects. However, a study by Bingölbali et al. found that deep tissue massage (DTM) significantly reduced pain, increased range of motion (ROM), and improved quality of life compared to a control group. Overall, these two studies demonstrate that non-pharmacological methods such as ultrasound-guided therapy and deep tissue massage are effective and safe methods for musculoskeletal rehabilitation physiotherapy. Furthermore, they have the potential to improve the quality of physiotherapy care.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is the most common musculoskeletal condition with a high global disability impact. Short-Wave Diathermy (SWD) is a deep-heating modality frequently used to reduce pain and increase tissue extensibility. The purpose of this literature review is to evaluate the effectiveness of SWD, either independently or in combination with therapeutic exercises, on reducing pain intensity and improving function in chronic LBP patients. This research uses a literature review design with article searches from databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. A total of 10 relevant research journals were analyzed, most of which used a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design. The analysis results show that SWD application provides a significant analgesic effect (p < 0.05) through nociceptive system modulation and microcirculation enhancement. The combination of SWD with active exercises such as Pilates or dynamic stretching provides more optimal short-term and medium-term results compared to monotherapy. In conclusion, SWD is an effective and safe modality as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation management for LBP sufferers.

Abstract

Abstract

Mahr (ṣidāq) is an essential element in Islamic marriage law and constitutes a mandatory obligation for the prospective husband. Beyond its symbolic function, mahr carries significant legal implications concerning the rights and obligations of spouses. This article aims to analyze the concept of mahr from a contemporary fiqh perspective by examining its normative foundations, legal requirements, and juridical consequences within Islamic marriage. This study employs a library research method with a normative-juridical approach, focusing on contemporary Islamic legal scholarship published within the last five years. The findings reveal that mahr is an exclusive right of the wife that must be fulfilled by the husband, regardless of whether it is explicitly stated in the marriage contract. Furthermore, mahr has ongoing legal consequences, particularly in cases of divorce, annulment, and the protection of women's rights. Therefore, a comprehensive fiqh-based understanding of mahr is crucial for ensuring substantive justice in modern Islamic marriage law.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) has become a significant global health challenge, with incidence rates continuing to rise alongside an aging population. This condition is not merely a sensation of pain but a complex pathology that triggers long-term physical limitations and a drastic decline in quality of life. Clinically, the onset of LBP is often associated with intervertebral disc degeneration, such as Lumbar Disc Herniation (LDH), which causes nerve compression and disrupts motor and sensory functions in the lower body. The primary implication of LBP is the impairment of daily functional activities, where patients experience difficulties in basic mobility, such as bending or standing for extended periods. If not managed comprehensively, this disorder can progress into a chronic state and negatively impact the economic sector due to loss of work productivity. In the rehabilitation process, hydrotherapy or aquatic exercise emerges as an effective intervention option by utilizing the principle of buoyancy to reduce mechanical loads on the spinal joints. Additionally, hydrostatic effects and warm water temperatures help optimize blood circulation and promote muscle relaxation.

Abstract

Stroke leads to long-term disability affecting motor function, balance, fitness, and cognition. Exercise- and stimulation-based rehabilitation interventions have been widely applied in post-stroke recovery. To analyze the effectiveness of exercise and stimulation interventions in post-stroke patients based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). This literature review applied the PICO approach and included ten RCT studies evaluating exercise, electrical stimulation, aerobic training, and balance interventions. Data were analyzed narratively by comparing intervention and control groups. The results show that the intervention groups demonstrated significantly greater improvements than control groups (p < 0.05) in spasticity reduction, motor function, balance, cardiorespiratory fitness, neuroplasticity, and cognitive outcomes. Multimodal interventions produced superior results compared to single interventions.
