Abstract

The concept of state defense (bela negara) has traditionally been associated with physical and military defense. However, in the era of information disruption, threats to national sovereignty and unity have shifted to the digital realm, such as the spread of hate speech, misinformation, and provocative narratives that threaten social integration. This study aims to redefine the meaning and obligations of national defense, particularly for Generation Z as digital natives, and to explain the strategic role of digital literacy in countering hate speech on social media. Through a qualitative approach using a literature review based on credible sources, this study explores how digital literacy has become a primary instrument of national defense today. The findings indicate that national defense for Generation Z is no longer limited to taking up arms but involves using critical thinking, digital ethics, and technological skills to counter hate speech. Proficient digital literacy enables Generation Z to become producers of positive content and active agents of change in cyberspace. This study is expected to promote the strengthening of digital citizenship through active participation in filtering information, countering hate narratives, and disseminating positive content is a tangible manifestation of the duty of national defense in the digital age. The active engagement of Generation Z in the digital era is a crucial pillar for maintaining the stability and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia

Abstract

Talent management within the Indonesian Civil Service (ASN/ASN) constitutes a crucial instrument of bureaucratic reform aimed at enhancing the quality and professionalism of government personnel. In the context of local government administration, talent management encompasses not only training and competency development but also recruitment, placement, performance evaluation, and the distribution of personnel according to organizational needs. This study aims to analyze the impact of talent management on the quality of government personnel in Indonesia through a case study of Jatinangor District. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing literature analysis, observational records, and interviews concerning personnel management practices in Jatinangor District. The findings indicate that the implementation of talent management in Jatinangor District continues to face several challenges, particularly namely regarding the limited authority of the district government in ASN recruitment, which remains under the jurisdiction of the Regional Civil Service and Human Resource Development Agency (BKPSDM) and local government authorities, the shortage of ASN personnel, the mismatch between employee placement and competency backgrounds, and restricted access to training opportunities. Nevertheless, adaptive measures have been undertaken, including self-directed learning initiatives, training programs organized by BKPSDM in collaboration with the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN), the Ministry of Home Affairs, and academic institutions, monthly performance evaluations based on indicators established by BKPSDM, and internal strategies such as workforce planning through staffing requirement matrices and the direct involvement of section heads in technical tasks. This study concludes that talent management significantly influences the quality of government personnel; however, its effectiveness largely depends on the consistent implementation of the merit system, appropriate employee placement, adequate training support, and sufficient numbers of ASN personnel.

Abstract

A reception desk design plays a crucial role in shaping the first impression and visual identity of an interior space. This study aims to design an onyx marble reception desk that serves both functional and aesthetic purposes in a modern interior. Onyx marble was selected for its translucent characteristics and its capacity to produce distinctive visual effects when combined with lighting, thereby creating an elegant and exclusive ambiance. This study employs a qualitative design approach encompassing stages of needs identification, material study, form exploration, and design development. Analysis was conducted on the interrelationship between material, structure, and lighting to produce a harmonious design aligned with modern commercial interior concepts. The design outcomes demonstrate that the application of onyx marble in the reception desk effectively reinforces the visual identity of the space while significantly enhancing its aesthetic value. Furthermore, this design has the potential to serve as a focal point within the reception area and to support the formation of a professional and characterful spatial image

Abstract

This research explores by the importance of interpersonal communication in romantic relationships between college students, which has the potential to influence their learning motivation. The purpose of this study is to analyze how interpersonal communication with opposite-sex partners contributes to students' learning motivation and the accompanying psychological factors. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with active college students who were in romantic relationships during their studies in Sukabumi City. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that interpersonal communication in romantic relationships among students tends to be flexible, open, and supported by empathy, support, and equality. Communication built from interpersonal relationships with partners acts as a support system that can increase the process of learning enthusiasm, form more regular and disciplined learning habits, and learning motivation is reinforced through joint study activities that provide discussion partners. However, conflict in relationships can cause emotional disturbances that affect a temporary decrease in learning concentration. Psychologically, interpersonal relationships have a positive impact in the form of comfort, self-confidence, and emotional balance. This study concludes that interpersonal communication with partners has a significant role in supporting students' learning motivation, with the note that communication quality and conflict management skills are the main determining factors. This research is expected to be a practical reference for students, counselors, and educational institutions on how and what the impact of managing healthy interpersonal relationships is to support students' academic success.

Abstract

This study examines the cultural and mythological symbolism in Ji Yida’s film Northeast Folktales as a reflection of the belief system of Chinese society. The analysis employs Roland Barthes ’ semiotic framework, which encompasses three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The aim of this research is to explore how visual and narrative elements represent local mythology, including the five Wudaxian deities, ritual practices, and supernatural figures as components of cultural identity. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study analyzes scenes, symbols, and dialogues to identify the relationship between signs and cultural meanings. The research results obtained were 10 (ten) data which showed that there were symbols of sacred animals, offering rituals, and representations of supernatural beings which functioned as cultural communication media which depict the relationship between society and the spirit world. Roland Barthes ’ semiotic analysis shows that each sign conveys denotative meanings rooted in folkloric traditions, connotative meanings that express emotional and social values, and mythic structures that reinforce the spiritual identity of Northeast Chinese communities. Overall, Northeast Folktales effectively represents the richness of folklor  and mythology that continues to live within the collective memory of society.

Abstract

Talent identification in sports is a critical component of modern athlete development. While artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have transformed talent identification practices globally, Indonesia’s contribution to this field remains limited. This study aims to map the current landscape of technology-based sports talent identification research in Indonesia indexed in Scopus. This study employed Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. A structured search was conducted in the Scopus database using keywords “sport talent identification” AND “artificial intelligence” OR “machine learning” OR “software”, with inclusion criteria limited to Indonesian-authored articles published between 2016 and 2026. Article selection followed the PICO framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome). Four articles met all inclusion criteria. Two articles (50%) employed Research and Development (R&D) approaches developing Android-based and software-based (TIDev) talent identification tools, one articles (25%) utilized a quantitative exploratory design examinging technology policy integration, and one article (25%) applied a machine learning Decision Tree algorithm for football position prediction. All selected technologies demonstrated adequate validity and accuracy, with Cronbach Alpha values of 0.844-0.761, I-CVI score of 0.88-0.93, and a Decision Tree accuracy of 76% with an F1-score of 75%. Notably, no Indonesia Scopus-indexed article specifically implementing artifical intelligence (deep learning or neural networks) for sports talent identification was found. technology-based software and machine learning approaches in Indonesian sports talent identification have demonstrated promosing validity and accuracy. However, the complete absence of AI-based research represents a significant evidence gap and a strategic oppotunity for Indonesian researchers to developp AI-driven talent identification system in support of national sports development programs.

Abstract

Virtual Private Network (VPN) services are widely used by the general public to browse the internet more securely, bypass geographic restrictions, or gain access to blocked services and content. Among the available options, free VPN applications are particularly favored by lay users due to their accessibility and absence of subscription fees. However, behind this convenience lie various security and privacy risks that are often unrecognized by users, ranging from data leaks and weak or non-existent encryption to the practice of selling user data to third parties. This study aims to systematically review the security aspects of free VPN usage, focusing on the understanding and vulnerabilities faced by lay users who generally lack a technical background in cybersecurity. The method used is a literature review of scientific publications, independent research reports, and relevant policy documents on VPN security published within the last five years. The review results indicate that most popular free VPN applications contain significant security flaws, such as IP and DNS leaks, the use of risky third-party libraries, excessive permission requests, and non-transparent logging practices. Low digital literacy exacerbates these risks, as lay users rarely read privacy policies or verify a provider's reputation before installing an application. This study recommends improving digital security literacy, developing practical guidelines for selecting safe VPNs, and establishing clearer regulations for VPN service providers operating in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of descriptive paragraph writing skills among students at SMPN 2 Dawarblandong using image-based media. A qualitative method was employed, utilizing observation as the data collection technique. The results indicate an improvement in descriptive writing abilities following the implementation of this media. Prior to using image-based media, students struggled to expand their ideas, select precise vocabulary, and describe objects in detail. After using the media, however, students were able to produce writing featuring more accurate and varied word choices, as well as clearer and more appropriate object descriptions. Thus, the use of image-based media has proven to be an effective tool.

Abstract

Community participation in Village Deliberation is a crucial element in realizing democratic, transparent, and inclusive village governance. Village Deliberation functions not only as a decision-making forum but also as a strategic instrument for achieving the Village Sustainable Development Goals (Village SDGs). This study aims to analyze the role of community participation in Village Deliberation as an instrument for achieving the Village SDGs through a case study in Sinar Danau Village, Buana Pemaca Subdistrict, Ogan Komering Ulu Selatan Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with village government officials, the Village Consultative Body (Badan Permusyawaratan Desa/BPD), community leaders, and local residents, as well as documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that community participation plays a significant role in improving the quality of village development planning, budget transparency, and the implementation of sustainable development programs. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including limited public participation, unequal representation of community groups, and the limited capacity of village officials in facilitating participatory development planning. Therefore, strengthening the capacity of both the community and village officials is essential to enhance the effectiveness of Village Deliberation as an instrument for achieving the Village SDGs.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has created various entrepreneurial opportunities for university students through the use of social media, marketplaces, and other digital platforms. This phenomenon has encouraged the emergence of side business as a form of entrepreneurship increasingly pursued by students to generate additional income while developing skills relevant to the needs of the digital era. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of side business as a form of student entrepreneurship in the digital era and to identify the benefits and challenges encountered in their implementation. The research employs a literature review method by examining various scientific articles and relevant bibliographic sources. The findings indicate that side business provide benefits such as increased financial independence, development of communication skills, enhanced digital literacy, and practical experience in managing a business. However, students also face various challenges, including time constraints, lack of managerial experience, and intense competition in the digital business landscape. Therefore, support from higher education institutions through entrepreneurship education and digital literacy programs is needed to improve students' readiness to develop sustainable businesses.
