Abstract

This study investigates the role of Islamic environmental ethics, as articulated by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), in fatwas on environmental protection. Indonesia, with its large Muslim population, faces significant ecological issues, including climate change, forest burning, and resource depletion. Recognizing the urgency of these problems, MUI has issued several fatwas on topics such as environmentally friendly mining, wildlife conservation, waste management, forest burning, and climate change. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of these fatwas in fostering sustainable environmental practices among Indonesian Muslims, examining their alignment with Islamic teachings and their impact on public attitudes, behaviors, and policy. This study employs a qualitative research design, utilizing document analysis and content analysis to explore the content and reception of MUI’s fatwas. By analyzing the fatwas’ theological foundations and practical implications, the research seeks to understand how Islamic environmental principles can mobilize religious communities to protect the environment. The results indicate that the fatwas are structured around Islamic principles, citing Qur'anic verses, Hadiths, and scholarly opinions, and provide recommendations for various stakeholders, including government officials, communities, and entrepreneurs. These fatwas emphasize collaborative efforts and advocate for responsible resource use and conservation, demonstrating that Islamic environmental ethics offer a valuable framework for addressing Indonesia’s environmental crises and promoting sustainable practices.

Abstract

Religious schools have played a vital role in spreading and promoting the Arabic language worldwide. These institutions have nurtured generations of scholars, preachers, writers, and thinkers who have greatly influenced educational systems throughout history. Among the most prominent examples is Darul Ulum Nadwatul Ulama’ in Lucknow, India, which has long prioritized Arabic language education at various levels. The institution places great importance on developing proficiency in reading, writing, and teaching Arabic, understanding its significance not only as the language of the Qur’an and Hadith, but also as a key global language in today’s world. Arabic is essential in fields like law and religious studies, serving as a cornerstone for understanding legal sciences and divine laws. This study focuses on the evolution of Nadwa’s curriculum, particularly its shift from traditional approaches that struggled to connect students with both Islamic knowledge and proficiency in Arabic language and literature. Recognizing the changing demands of the modern era, Nadwa embarked on a series of reforms to update and enhance its educational programs. New textbooks were introduced, covering subjects like Arabic language and literature, the history of Arabic literature, pre-Islamic writings, and poetry, replacing outdated resources. Despite these changes, Nadwatul Ulama’ has continuously innovated its curriculum to adapt to the evolving needs of students and society. This paper seeks to explore Nadwa’s significant role in advancing the Arabic language and emphasizes the ongoing importance of continually revising educational curricula to meet the demands of the present age.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Qualitative Analysis of the Concept of Tabdzir in the Qur'an: A Study of Al-Azhar Tafsir and Its Contribution to Good Asset Management". The main focus of this study is to analyze how tabdzir, or waste, is interpreted in the Qur'an according to Hamka's perspective in Tafsir Al-Azhar. The research problem raised is the understanding and application of the teachings of tabdzir in the social and economic context of modern society. The research method used is a qualitative method with a literature study approach. The data was collected through the analysis of the Qur'anic text, especially the verses related to the tabdzir, as well as the interpretation given by Hamka in Tafsir Al-Azhar. This research also includes a review of relevant literature, both from books and scientific articles, to explore the context and implications of tabdzir teachings. The results of the study show that Hamka emphasized that tabdzir is a reprehensible behavior that must be avoided by Muslims. In his interpretation, Hamka associates tabdzir with social and moral responsibility, and reminds the importance of wise wealth management. He also highlighted the negative impact of waste, both on individuals and society, and called on the faithful to live simply and invest in social welfare. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to the Islamic understanding of asset management and ethical financial behavior. By analyzing tabdzir in the context of Tafsir Al-Azhar, this research provides useful insights for society in facing the challenges of modern lifestyles, as well as strengthening awareness of the importance of managing wealth as a mandate from Allah.

Abstract

The Gaza ceasefire deal brokered during the Trump administration represents a critical moment in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This study examines the political dynamics, key stakeholders, and broader implications of the ceasefire, with a particular focus on the role of the U.S. government in facilitating the agreement. Using a qualitative approach with a library research method, this study analyzes various sources, including official documents, diplomatic reports, academic literature, and media publications. The research employs discourse analysis and content analysis to assess the motivations behind the ceasefire, its impact on regional stability, and its significance in shaping U.S. foreign policy. Findings indicate that the agreement, while providing temporary relief, does not resolve the fundamental political and territorial disputes driving the conflict. The study highlights the strategic interests of Israel, Hamas, Egypt, and Qatar, as well as the geopolitical considerations of the Trump administration in brokering the deal. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the ceasefire’s long-term prospects and the broader challenges of achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. It underscores the complexities of U.S. involvement in the conflict and the ongoing struggle for Palestinian sovereignty. Future studies should explore the evolving role of international actors in mediating peace efforts and addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trends, patterns, and thematic evolution of mental health research within Islamic or Muslim contexts, identifying key contributors, journals, institutions, and global collaborations to address existing knowledge gaps. Grounded in theories of cultural psychology and religious coping, particularly those advanced by Pargament (2001) and Koenig (2001), the study highlights the interplay between religion, spirituality, and mental health outcomes. A quantitative bibliometric analysis was conducted using data collected through a Boolean search on the Scopus database for the period 1976–2024. After filtering, the search produced 111 relevant documents, which were analyzed using R/R-Studio, VOSViewer, and Microsoft Excel to visualize document trends, keyword co-occurrence networks, and collaboration patterns. The findings reveal a steady annual growth rate of 9.75%, with significant contributions from journals such as “Mental Health, Religion and Culture” and “Journal of Muslim Mental Health.” The United States leads in research productivity while emerging nations like Malaysia and Iran show growing contributions. Key research themes include spirituality, psychological stress, stigma, mental disorders, and mental health challenges among vulnerable populations such as refugees. The study provides a roadmap for future research, emphasizing the importance of culturally sensitive and interdisciplinary approaches. This bibliometric analysis offers unique insights into the role of religion and culture in mental health research, addressing a significant gap in the literature and contributing to global scholarly efforts in this field.
