Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trends, patterns, and thematic evolution of mental health research within Islamic or Muslim contexts, identifying key contributors, journals, institutions, and global collaborations to address existing knowledge gaps. Grounded in theories of cultural psychology and religious coping, particularly those advanced by Pargament (2001) and Koenig (2001), the study highlights the interplay between religion, spirituality, and mental health outcomes. A quantitative bibliometric analysis was conducted using data collected through a Boolean search on the Scopus database for the period 1976–2024. After filtering, the search produced 111 relevant documents, which were analyzed using R/R-Studio, VOSViewer, and Microsoft Excel to visualize document trends, keyword co-occurrence networks, and collaboration patterns. The findings reveal a steady annual growth rate of 9.75%, with significant contributions from journals such as “Mental Health, Religion and Culture” and “Journal of Muslim Mental Health.” The United States leads in research productivity while emerging nations like Malaysia and Iran show growing contributions. Key research themes include spirituality, psychological stress, stigma, mental disorders, and mental health challenges among vulnerable populations such as refugees. The study provides a roadmap for future research, emphasizing the importance of culturally sensitive and interdisciplinary approaches. This bibliometric analysis offers unique insights into the role of religion and culture in mental health research, addressing a significant gap in the literature and contributing to global scholarly efforts in this field.

Abstract

This study explores the crisis of trust in political institutions, focusing on political parties, governments, and media. The objective is to identify the causes, impacts, and potential solutions to this growing mistrust. The research utilizes a qualitative approach, reviewing existing literature and analyzing case studies from various countries facing political instability and declining public trust. Results indicate that corruption, lack of transparency, misinformation, and limited public participation are primary causes of mistrust. These issues contribute to political instability, decreased voter participation, and increased social division. The discussion highlights the importance of transparency, accurate information, and public involvement in restoring trust. Implications suggest that strengthening political institutions and ensuring accountability are essential for rebuilding public confidence. Recommendations include promoting political education, enhancing media responsibility, increasing public engagement in political processes, and ensuring greater government transparency. The findings emphasize the need for a collaborative effort between the government, media, and the public to address the crisis of trust. This study advocates for the adoption of long-term strategies to restore legitimacy in political institutions, which is critical for maintaining democratic stability and fostering public participation in governance.

Abstract

The digital age has significantly transformed religious practices, presenting both opportunities and challenges for individuals and communities. This study examines the impact of technology on religiosity, focusing on the shift from traditional religious practices to digital formats. Using secondary data, the research explores how digital tools like online platforms and virtual communities have reshaped religious engagement and community building. Despite the benefits of accessibility, such as the convenience of attending services remotely and accessing religious resources online, challenges also emerge. These include misinformation, distractions, and the potential erosion of personal spiritual experiences, which can undermine the authenticity of religious practices. The findings suggest that while technology offers greater accessibility to religious resources, religious organizations and leaders must balance virtual engagement with maintaining the integrity of traditional spiritual practices. The study concludes with recommendations for integrating faith into the digital landscape while preserving the core values of spirituality. This includes promoting responsible use of technology, fostering virtual spaces that encourage meaningful engagement, and ensuring that digital tools serve as enhancements, not replacements, for authentic spiritual experiences.

Abstract

This article discusses the philosophical foundations of holistic education in the 21st century with a focus on the challenges and obstacles in its development in the context of Islamic education. The background of this research is based on the urgent need for a comprehensive and balanced approach to education in the face of the complexity of modern times marked by technological developments, moral crises, and the fragmentation of science. The GAP of this research lies in the lack of in-depth studies that integrate the holistic paradigm with the values of Islamic education philosophically and applicatively in facing the challenges of globalization and modernization. This research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method, which examines the literature on holistic education philosophy and Islamic educational thought from various primary and secondary sources. The benefit of this research is that it makes a conceptual contribution to the development of a more complete, transformative, and contextual Islamic education paradigm, as well as a reference for policymakers and education practitioners in designing a learning system that is in line with spiritual, intellectual, and social values of the 21st century.

Abstract

Islamic communication is a comprehensive and ethical framework rooted in the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah, emphasizing truthfulness, wisdom, respect, and responsibility. It plays a crucial role in Da’wah (Islamic preaching), education, interfaith dialogue, media, and digital discourse. As communication methods evolve, Islamic communication must adapt to modern platforms while maintaining its ethical foundations. This study explores the theoretical foundations, methodologies, contemporary applications, and challenges of Islamic communication. It highlights how traditional approaches, such as sermons and direct interpersonal dialogue, have transitioned into digital spaces, including social media, online learning, and global media platforms. While these developments offer new opportunities for outreach and engagement, they also pose challenges such as misinformation, unethical media practices, Islamophobia, and the commercialization of religious content. The research underscores the importance of media literacy, responsible digital engagement, and scholarly participation in ensuring that Islamic communication remains authentic, impactful, and aligned with Islamic ethical values. Furthermore, it presents future directions for strengthening Islamic communication, including the integration of modern technology, youth engagement, and ethical guidelines for digital Da’wah. By examining both traditional and contemporary dimensions, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of Islamic communication and its role in fostering knowledge, unity, and positive social change in an increasingly interconnected world.

Abstract

Objective:  This study aims to examine contemporary issues regarding career women from the perspective of Qur'anic interpretation. The main focus is to examine Quraish Shihab's views in Tafsir Al-Misbah on women working in the public sphere, as well as analyze them through the theory of double movement developed by Fazlur Rahman. Theoretical framework:  Using Fazlur Rahman's theory of double movement, which emphasizes historical analysis of verse and its reinterpretation in contemporary social contexts, to understand the role of women in Islam in a relevant way. Literature review: Previous studies are still dominant in normative and fiqh. This study fills the gap by combining Fazlur Rahman's theory and contemporary interpretation of Quraish Shihab in discussing career women thematically. Methods:  Using a qualitative method based on literature study, with the main source of Tafsir Al-Misbah and literature on the theory of double movement. The analysis was carried out in a descriptive-analytical manner. Result:  The results of the study show that both Quraish Shihab and Fazlur Rahman support women's right to have a career and contribute to the public sphere, while maintaining Islamic Sharia values. In his commentary, Quraish Shihab emphasizes that Islam does not prohibit women from working, as long as they adhere to the moral and ethical principles set by the religion. Implications: This contextual interpretation can be a theological foundation in supporting gender equality and the participation of Muslim women in the workforce. Novelty: Integrating the theory of double movement with the interpretation of Quraish Shihab, specifically in the issue of career women, offers a new approach in the study of contemporary thematic interpretation.
