Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the antibacterial activity of copper oxide nanoparticles synthesized by the gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli. Biosynthetic CuONPs produced were tested on two pathogenic model bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PTTC 1707) and Bacillus cereus (PTTC1154). The antibacterial effect of the mentioned nanoparticles was investigated using two methods of determining (MIC and well diffusion). Dilution series were used to determine the zone of no growth in the well diffusion method from 160 to 5 μg/mL, and the diameters of the formed zones were measured in milliliters. Also, to determine the minimum growth inhibitory concentration (MIC) of each bacterium, a series of 10 tubes with dilutions of copper oxide nanoparticles from 320 to 0.62 μg/mL was used. The results of the findings indicated that these nanoparticles showed significant antibacterial activity on the tested strains, such that they prevented the growth of bacteria at very low concentrations. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of copper oxide nanoparticles for both bacteria (Bacillus cereus) and (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) was calculated to be 10 and 5 micrograms ml, respectively. The diameters of the halos formed by these two bacteria were also calculated to be 17 and 20 mm, respectively.

Abstract

Abstract Nigerian government spending on recurrent expenditures, particularly on financial intervention programmes, has increased during the past eight years. Despite this, the country is still recognized as a poor nation with a high percentage of poverty in Sub-Sahara Africa. Therefore, the study examined the effect of government spending on consumers’ welfare from 1986 to 2023. The reason for the timeframe was due to the adoption ARDL approach. The study used secondary data that was collected from Central Bank of Nigeria, Statistical Bulletin (2023), as well as, International Monetary Fund data base (2025). Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) and Philip Perron (PP) unit root test were used for the pretest; while Auto-regressive Distributed Lag was used to achieved the formulated objectives. Both the ADF and PP confirmed that lending interest rate was stationary at level; while, private consumption expenditure, recurrent expenditure, capital expenditure, and consumer price index were stationary at first level difference. The bound test confirmed a long-run association between the variables. The ARDL result showed that recurrent expenditure and lending interest rate were significantly and positively related to private consumption expenditure, whereas consumer price index was significantly and negatively related to it. Furthermore, capital expenditure was insignificant. It was concluded that recurrent expenditure was the only means through which Nigerian government boosts consumers’ welfare in term of spending, while maintaining lower lending rates and consumer price index support consumers’ welfare. Therefore, the study recommended that governments at the federal, state, and local levels should increase their capital expenditure through huge investments in infrastructure and other capital projects.

Abstract

Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) is a vital instrument in environmental management in Indonesia. Regulated by law, AMDAL functions as an early prevention against negative impacts of development. The development of regulations, from PP No. 29 of 1986 to PP No. 27 of 2012, shows the government's commitment to adjusting policies to the dynamics of development and environmental protection. AMDAL is not only a legal requirement, but also a tool to support government decision-making involving community participation. AMDAL ensures sustainable development by considering social, economic, cultural, and environmental aspects. Its success depends on proper preparation, implementation of continuous mitigation, and consistent monitoring. Therefore, AMDAL is a crucial environmental risk management tool for responsible and sustainable development in Indonesia. Effective implementation of AMDAL requires commitment from all parties.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including family consumption patterns. After the implementation of restrictions and the transition toward a new normal order, society began to show adaptation in consumption habits that differ from pre-pandemic times. This study aims to deeply examine changes in family consumption patterns in the post-pandemic era using a qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with 15 respondents from diverse social and economic backgrounds, supported by observation and document analysis. Findings indicate that digitization is a key factor in transforming consumption patterns, with an increase in the use of online platforms such as shopping apps and telehealth services. In addition, changes in time structure due to work-from-home policies have influenced the frequency and types of goods consumed, especially in fulfilling basic needs. Although some government policies have had a positive impact on purchasing power, their implementation has not been fully effective for all segments of society. The role of social media has also become increasingly prominent in shaping consumption preferences, particularly among younger generations. This study concludes that the changes in consumption patterns after the pandemic are not merely temporary but tend to be part of a new lifestyle that is more selective, efficient, and oriented toward health and technology. Therefore, this research provides an important contribution to understanding the dynamics of household consumption behavior in the new normal era.

With the rapid development of digital technology, fintech has emerged as an innovative solution in the financial sector, offering easier access, lower transaction costs, and faster cross-border financial operations. For MSMEs engaged in export and import activities, the ease of forex transactions is crucial to maintaining operational continuity and enhancing business competitiveness. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method through literature review and secondary data analysis. The findings indicate that fintech plays a significant role in promoting financial inclusion, expanding global market access, and increasing the efficiency of forex transactions for MSMEs, especially those in remote areas. However, challenges such as data security and digital literacy remain as obstacles. Therefore, regulatory support and government-led education initiatives are essential to building a healthy and sustainable fintech ecosystem for MSME development.

Abstract

In South Asia, Hijras are transgender, intersex, or eunuch people who live in close communities. In Bangladesh, they remain socially excluded and stigmatized. Although their gender identity is legally recognized, studies show they still face barriers in accessing healthcare. This research explores the healthcare experiences of Hijras in different service sectors. It is based on 79 in-depth interviews and 3 key-informant interviews, analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings show that public hospitals only provide male- and female-focused facilities, with no separate arrangements for Hijra patients. Many faced verbal harassment, blame for their illnesses, and unequal treatment. Health providers also lacked awareness of Hijra identity and culture. The study recommends formally including Hijra as a gender category in the healthcare system to reduce discrimination and ensure fair healthcare access for them.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of AI powered learning systems on improving the academic achievement of slow learners within the 21st century educational landscape of inclusive education. The research seeks to determine how AI technologies can help identify specific student challenges, reduce learning gaps, and provide customized learning experiences. The ultimate goal is to build self-confidence, increase student engagement, and improve overall learning efficiency in the classroom. A main challenge identified in the study is the digital divide-the lack of technical facilities and internet access for students in rural and underdeveloped areas. To address this, a mixed-methods approach was used, involving 200students, 250teachers, 10 in-service advisors(ADS/ISAs), and 80parents from all five zones in the Batticaloa District. Data on performance were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and document analysis, with subsequent analysis performed using SPSS software. Findings indicate that AI-based interventions can significantly improve student achievement by creating customized learning paths and adapting the curriculum to individual learning speeds. AI’s impact has fundamentally changed the roles of teachers, the tools they use, and the content they deliver. The research also revealed that AI tools can empower teachers to provide immediate and necessary assistance. The study recommends creating localized, interactive AI learning resources, offering comprehensive professional training for teachers, improving the distribution of technical facilities and fostering collaboration with policymakers. By implementing these recommendations, the country can better achieve its future educational goals and adapt to timely technological changes. This study also emphasizes the important of conducting research not only on future technological developments but also on the rapid change occurring in technology today.

Abstract

The globalization of financial markets has led to the emergence of a wide array of currency trading instruments designed to manage risk and enhance market efficiency. Among these are futures, forwards, options, swaps, and spot contracts, along with newer derivatives such as CFDs and spread betting. While these instruments serve important financial functions in conventional markets, their structural components often raise serious concerns within Islamic jurisprudence. The central issue lies in their frequent violation of core Shariah prohibitions, including riba (interest), gharar (excessive uncertainty), qimar (gambling), and bayʿ al-kālī bil-kālī (sale of deferred countervalues), rendering them potentially non-compliant in the context of Islamic finance. This study undertakes a detailed legal and ethical analysis of each of these instruments, drawing upon both classical jurisprudential sources and modern scholarly evaluations, including those of Mufti Taqi Usmani and regulatory bodies such as AAOIFI. Through this analysis, the paper illustrates how speculative intent, the lack of immediate possession in contracts, and the use of interest-based mechanisms compromise the permissibility of these tools. Particular attention is given to the conceptual differences between real hedging practices and speculative profit-seeking, a distinction that is often blurred in the modern FX market. The findings show a clear conflict between the operational logic of most FX instruments and the objectives of Islamic commercial law (maqāṣid al-sharīʿah). In response to these challenges, the article emphasizes the necessity for the development of Shariah-compliant alternatives that retain the economic utility of these instruments without violating ethical principles. Such solutions would ideally combine Islamic contractual structures like waʿd, ʿarbūn, and muḍārabah with rigorous Shariah supervision. By bridging the gap between modern financial practice and Islamic legal requirements, this study aims to contribute to the discourse on Islamic financial innovation and highlight the potential for ethically grounded financial instruments in the global marketplace.
