Abstract

This phenomenological study explores the obstacles to effective Sinhala oral communication experienced by Tamil-speaking deep-sea fishermen in the Ampara District of Sri Lanka. Adopting a qualitative research design, data were collected from sixty fishermen through in-depth semi-structured interviews to capture their lived experiences of spoken communication in professional contexts. The data were analysed using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis framework. The study is theoretically grounded in Communication Accommodation Theory (Giles, 1973) and Cummins’ (1979) Linguistic Interdependence Hypothesis, providing insight into how linguistic adjustment, oral proficiency, and cross-linguistic transfer influence everyday communicative interactions. The findings reveal that limited Sinhala oral competence significantly hinders fishermen’s professional coordination, workplace safety, and collaborative engagement with Sinhalese fishermen and navy personnel. These obstacles stem not only from linguistic inadequacies in speaking and listening but also from broader sociocultural factors, including limited opportunities for sustained intergroup interaction and unequal access to spoken Sinhala learning resources. The study recommends the implementation of regionally responsive, hypermedia-based Sinhala oral communication programmes incorporating audio, visuals, animations, and interactive elements to support experiential language learning among junior fishermen. Such interventions are expected to enhance oral communicative competence, strengthen intergroup collaboration, and contribute to sustainable professional development within the deep-sea fishing community.

Abstract

Data analysis techniques play a crucial role in scientific research as they determine the validity and quality of research findings. Recent developments in Indonesian research indicate an increasing diversity in the use of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed data analysis techniques. Therefore, a comprehensive review is required to systematically examine these developments. This study aims to analyze quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques used in Indonesian national journal articles. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by examining national journal articles published in Indonesia from 2021 to 2025. The SLR process was conducted through several stages, including the formulation of research questions, systematic literature searching, article selection based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and data synthesis and analysis. The results indicate that quantitative data analysis techniques remain dominant, particularly descriptive statistics, regression analysis, correlation analysis, and analysis of variance. Meanwhile, qualitative data analysis techniques such as thematic analysis, narrative analysis, and content analysis are widely used to obtain an in-depth understanding of research phenomena. In addition, the use of mixed methods approaches has shown a growing trend, as they provide more comprehensive and robust research findings. This study is expected to serve as a methodological reference for researchers in selecting appropriate data analysis techniques based on research objectives and data characteristics.

Abstract

Population and sampling are fundamental methodological components that determine the validity, reliability, and generalizability of educational research findings. Inadequate determination of population boundaries, inappropriate sampling techniques, or improper sample size selection may lead to biased conclusions and weaken the scientific credibility of research outcomes. This study aims to critically examine the concepts of population and sample as methodological foundations in educational research. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach through library research, this study analyzes and synthesizes relevant methodological literature and scholarly articles using content analysis techniques. The findings indicate that population serves as the basis for defining the scope of research generalization, while samples function as representative subsets selected through systematic procedures. Effective sampling requires careful consideration of sample size adequacy, sampling techniques, population characteristics, and desired levels of precision and confidence. The study also highlights fundamental differences in sampling practices between quantitative and qualitative research paradigms, where quantitative research emphasizes statistical representativeness, whereas qualitative research prioritizes data saturation and contextual depth. This article contributes to methodological discourse by providing a systematic conceptual clarification of population and sampling frameworks, particularly for novice researchers in education. A comprehensive understanding of these concepts is essential to designing rigorous, credible, and impactful educational research.

Abstract

This research initiates an inquiry into the perceptions, expectations, and political behavior of first-time voters of Ward No. 30, Rajshahi City Corporation to gauge their role in the democratic process as new entrants in the electoral system. First-time voters provide an insightful view of how youth relate to democracy in Bangladesh. The study uses a structured questionnaire with demographic and issue-based questions to show key concerns at present: unemployment, corruption, and low faith in electoral fairness. It further probes what influences their voting decision—credibility of the candidate, party ideology, or social media and peer influence—and finds that first-time voters have a very sophisticated awareness of politics; they are both enthusiastic and skeptical about such voters who demand accountability with transparent and inclusive governance. The findings show a sophisticated political sensitivity among first-time voters—a mix of zeal and doubt—who weigh much accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance. It is thus concluded that by giving this demographic more political representation and real engagement opportunities, a more participatory and responsive democratic culture can be encouraged.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the dynamics of consumer trust and satisfaction toward SME products in online marketplaces by employing a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Marketplaces as digital platforms have opened vast opportunities for SMEs to reach wider audiences; however, they also pose significant challenges related to building trust in a fully virtual interaction environment and sustaining consumer satisfaction amid intense competition. This study draws upon a range of academic sources, particularly SINTA-indexed journals, that are relevant to issues of trust, satisfaction, and digital consumer behavior. The findings reveal that consumer trust is primarily shaped by factors such as product information transparency, transaction security, seller credibility, and service consistency. Meanwhile, consumer satisfaction is largely influenced by product quality, delivery speed, after-sales services, and the overall shopping experience facilitated by the marketplace system. Trust and satisfaction are found to be closely interrelated, with trust serving as the foundation for sustaining long-term satisfaction. These two dimensions not only encourage repeat purchases but also foster consumer loyalty and generate organic promotion through reviews and electronic word of mouth. The study offers practical implications for SMEs and marketplace operators to prioritize strategies grounded in trust and satisfaction as the core of digital business management. Furthermore, its theoretical implications highlight the importance of enhancing digital literacy and consumer protection in order to establish a sustainable, competitive, and healthy e-commerce ecosystem.

Abstract

Trade wars, while motivated by economic goals, had consequences that transcended the economic realm, impacting social and political domains. This study employs a qualitative research design to investigate the relationship between the 2025 trade war and the potential emergence of violent extremism by interviewing two pivotal groups: former terrorist offenders, who provide insider insights, and terrorism analysts, who present outsider perspectives on extremist organizations. The results indicate that modern extremists can be classified by ideology, scope, generational cohort, and behavioral tendencies. The study emphasizes that global economic instability, resulting in local crises, can intensify extremism and criminal activity, especially in vulnerable groups. This study categorizes extremists into three classes based on their reactions to economic crises: “deradicalized,” “exploiters,” and “vulnerable.”

Abstract

Quantitative research requires appropriate data collection techniques and quality research instruments to produce valid and reliable findings. The purpose of this study is to describe various data collection techniques in quantitative research along with the systematic process of developing research instruments that meet psychometric standards. This research uses a literature review method by comprehensively analyzing research methodology literature from various credible academic sources, including research methodology textbooks and indexed scientific journal articles. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis methods with a thematic approach to identify main themes related to data collection techniques and the development of quantitative research instruments. The research results show that quantitative data collection techniques include surveys, experiments, structured observations, and the use of secondary data, where the selection of appropriate techniques must be adjusted to population characteristics, types of information needed, and available resources. Quality research instruments must meet validity criteria that ensure the instrument measures the intended construct and reliability that guarantees measurement consistency. The instrument development process involves systematic stages from conceptual and operational definition of variables, clear item writing, content validation by experts, instrument testing, to psychometric analysis using appropriate statistical techniques. Contemporary challenges in quantitative research include adaptation to digital transformation through online surveys, utilization of big data, handling declining response rates, and ethical considerations regarding privacy and informed consent. This research concludes that the integration of methodological rigor, technological innovation, and ethical sensitivity is key to producing quantitative research that is not only technically valid and reliable, but also socially responsible and capable of making meaningful contributions to the development of knowledge and evidence-based decision making.
