Abstract

The phenomenon of widespread and massive use of social media TikTok has changed the social order and even religious values in society. TikTok, which was originally used as a social media, quickly turned into a platform used for purposes such as political economy and religion. Religious activities distributed on social media experience disruption and shallowing of values, because these activities are carried out solely to pursue economic needs. This research aims to find out comprehensively and analytically the extent to which disruption and shallowing of religious values occur on TikTok social media. The method used in this research is a qualitative method using Clifford Greetz's Thick Description theory approach, where the theory focuses on studying the in-depth meaning of cultural symbols. This research data was obtained through documentary data collection techniques in the form of videos of lectures or religious preaching on TikTok social media. The research results show that the presence of social media and its rapidly growing use has encouraged the commodification of religion, where religion is constructed and reduced in such a way that religion that was originally sacred becomes profane. Religious preaching is not only driven and constructed by the interests of the religion itself but also by market interests so that spiritual values in religion become increasingly shallow and uprooted.

Abstract

China's status as a world economic and political power affects the structure of relations in the Asia region and the global economy. Understanding China's responses to the globalized economy and its current position is a crucial intellectual exercise that offers insights into alternative economic development and governance models. China is an example of a country that has successfully developed utilizing the momentum of globalization, which many scholars overlook. This paper aims to describe China’s political-economic relations in response to globalization. A literature review method is utilized through various academic sources. This paper finds that China's tremendous productive modalities have been a significant factor in the country's march to global economic dominance. China’s accession to the WTO and sustained economic reform and restructuring efforts in the domestic political economy sphere induced a convergence towards internationally accepted financial and market interaction standards. Development milestones ranged from the sources and destination of foreign investments, export-led manufacturing, and BRI projects to green economy policies. China introduced three brand-new initiatives as a strong impetus for advancing humanity’s modernization process and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Abstract

This research describes Indonesia’s maritime security strategy in countering illegal fishing through the Indonesia-Australia Fisheries Surveillance Forum in 2018-2022. The maritime border between Indonesia and Australia is prone to illegal fishing, which requires bilateral cooperation to resolve it. For this reason, Indonesia cooperates with Australia through the Indonesia-Australia Fisheries Surveillance Forum (IAFSF). This study uses descriptive qualitative method and the Maritime Security Strategy concept which includes Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) and new epistemic infrastructure, coordination and maritime security governance and operational coordination. The results of this research show that Indonesia’s Maritime Security Strategy within the IAFSF framework have been implemented by forming the 115 Task Force to enhance maritime domain awareness, developing a new epistemic infrastructure database of illegal fishing information, facilitating information exchange between Indonesia and Australia on illegal fishing cases, human resource capacity building for Indonesian staff, joint campaigns against illegal fishing, preparing alternative livelihoods for fishermen across the Indonesian-Australian maritime borders and Operation Gannet coordinated patrols between Bakamla and the Australian Border Force (ABF).

Abstract

This article underlines tensions between medical tourism and radical democracy in Indonesian sense. Medical tourism tends to prioritize those who have money to gain more options, yet change the ideas of medical aspects into such trivial recreations. Meanwhile, radical democracy works to realize such welfare states in which all people could reach better options in life. Radical democracy, as indicated by Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe, is analyzed through genealogy of hegemony as discourses that are used to be owned by several people are distributed to every person’s needs. Through qualitative method and explorative approach, the analysis of this paper emphasizes on how radical democracy promotes undeveloped people to have better access to basic needs but medical tourism still asks answers from capitalism itself. The discourses will only remain as dialogues while the applications of being ideational have shifted into matters of being recreational. Intertwinements of medical aspects and tourism indeed focuses on those who travel and stay, but will slowly eradicate the truth of the needs of those who need better medical assistances. In conclusion, while radical democracy would like to erode hegemony, medical tourism worsens the situation by pushing more trickle-down effects than fairness and equality before everyone.

Abstract

Japan is a country that has a domestic market for illegal ivory trade. After the Conference of the Parties (CoP) adopted a resolution regarding the recommendation to close the domestic ivory market, many parties asked Japan to close it. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regime in dealing with the ivory trade in Japan after the recommendation to close the domestic ivory market that contributes to poaching or illegal trade. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods and is based on the concept of international regimes initiated by Robert O. Keohane. The results show that CITES' implementation in dealing with the ivory trade in Japan was carried out through two events, namely through the CITES governing body and through cooperation between management authorities and TRAFFIC.

Abstract

Climate change will have a negative impact on farmers due to changes in rainfall, air temperature, and water availability, especially in drought prone areas such as the Gunungkidul regency of Indonesia. This may disrupt food availability, because it forces farmers to switch the function of agricultural land, especially paddy fields, to more commercially productive uses. The Sustainable Food Agriculture Land Protection (SFALP) Policy is a policy designed to suppress the conversion of land functions so that food availability remains stable and even increases in the future. This research aims to understand the overall performance conditions of the SFALP policy implementation, constraints, and supports for the policy. The research is qualitative, with a case study approach. Data are collected qualitatively through literature study, observation, in-depth interview and focus group discussion. In terms of policy input, the availability of financial and human resources is sufficient because currently the main focus is on planning and designation activities, but the availability of land with new rules is insufficient, so there must be new rice fields planted. In terms of output, there is no established Sustainable Food Agriculture Area (SFAA), but there are some indications of one. Barriers include unclear policy incentives, policies that are logically inaccurate in determining SFAA, the limited budget, attracting public interest, weak juridical enforcement due to unclear regulations, and overlapping inter-organizational relations. Support comes from farmers' receipts, the existence of local regulations on SFALP in Gunungkidul Regency, and support from the Gunungkidul Regent and the Provincial Government.
