Abstract

Applying the foundations of educational psychology is crucial for fostering learning interactions that align with the characteristics and developmental needs of elementary school students. A teacher's understanding of students' varying abilities, personalities, emotional states, and social needs serves as a basis for building self-confidence and creating a positive learning environment. This study aims to describe the application of educational psychology principles in teacher-student interactions and to analyze the strategies teachers use to build self-confidence and a positive learning environment in elementary schools. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with the study conducted at UPT SD Negeri Gedog 02. Data were gathered through observation, teacher interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion-drawing stages. The findings indicate that educational psychology principles are applied by identifying student characteristics through initial assessments and continuous observation, tailoring communication to students' conditions, providing supportive feedback, and utilizing individualized approaches. Strategies to build self-confidence are implemented gradually by offering opportunities to perform, practicing the expression of opinions, acknowledging effort, and engaging in group learning. A positive learning environment is fostered through respectful interactions, bullying prevention, educational conflict resolution, and the use of varied, active learning methods. These practices create a sense of psychological safety that encourages students to be more self-confident, willing to express their views, and actively engaged in learning. Thus, applying educational psychology principles to teacher-student interactions plays a vital role in creating a learning experience that supports the balanced cognitive, social, and emotional development of students.

Abstract

This article analyzes interactive Javanese script applications as a bridge between digital literacy and local cultural preservation for elementary school students through the lens of Edward L. Thorndike’s Connectionism theory. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, this systematic literature review synthesized 11 core articles published between 2020 and 2026. Findings reveal that traditional Javanese script learning faces low student engagement due to rote-based methods and limited interactive media. Digital tools such as Android apps and augmented reality (AR) significantly enhance engagement by providing visual-audio stimuli and instant feedback. The discussion highlights how Connectionism principles specifically stimulus-response, the law of readiness, the law of exercise, and the law of effect explain the efficacy of these digital environments. Ultimately, these applications serve as an integrative learning space, harmonizing digital competency with cultural identity.

Abstract

Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in elementary schools/madrasahs often relies on conventional teacher-centered approaches without integrating local wisdom contexts, leading to low critical thinking skills and academic performance. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of IPAS learning innovation through the implementation of Ethnobiology- based Student Worksheets (LKPD) on the topic "Plants as Sources of Life on Earth" for Grade IV at MIN 1 Ambon. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative descriptive analyses was conducted. The study involved 59 fourth-grade students from Class IV A (29 students) and Class IV B (30 students). Data were gathered through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, critical thinking test rubrics, and cognitive achievement tests. The results demonstrated that ethnobiology-based worksheets successfully shifted classroom dynamics from teacher-centered to student-centered learning. Students' critical thinking skills showed significant improvement across three main indicators: problem recognition (88.5%), data analysis (84.2%), and conclusion drawing (82.0%). All students (100%) achieved mastery above the minimum passing criteria, categorized as: 30% Very Good (18 students), 49% Good (29 students), 21% Sufficient (12 students), and 0% Poor. This study confirms that integrating local ethnobiological knowledge into IPAS instructional materials is highly effective in fostering critical thinking skills and maximizing student learning outcomes in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.

Abstract

Speaking skills are a fundamental ability essential in Indonesian language learning in elementary school as they support students in conveying ideas, feelings, and opinions orally; however, empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of the Talking Stick model in Phase A remains scattered and has not yet been integrated. This study aims to analyze the contribution of the Talking Stick model to strengthening students’ speaking skills in Phase A and to formulate implications for teaching practice and future research. The method used was a systematic literature review following the PRISMA 2020 and PRISMA-S guidelines through a search on Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, DOAJ, and Garuda for publications from 2020 to 2025; from 406 initial records, 15 articles meeting the inclusion criteria were identified and analyzed using thematic narrative synthesis. The results of the study indicate that the Talking Stick model consistently enhances students’ oral participation, courage, self-confidence, verbal responses, and speaking performance, particularly when supported by visual or multimodal media such as pictures, pop-up books, mystery boxes, and audiovisual materials; furthermore, structured turn-taking procedures help create an active and interactive learning environment. In conclusion, the Talking Stick is relevant for strengthening students’ speaking skills in Phase A of elementary school; however, generalizing these findings requires caution, as most studies still focus on grades 3–5 and are dominated by action research and quasi- experimental designs. Implications: future research needs to employ stronger designs, a broader cross-school sample, and more detailed instrument reporting so that the effectiveness of the Talking Stick in Phase A can be understood more convincingly

Abstract

Digital transformation in primary education is increasingly focusing on the integration of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to facilitate student- centered learning environments. Differentiated Instruction (DI) has emerged as a promising pedagogical approach to accommodate the heterogeneity of students' learning needs. The integration of personalization technologies has been shown to enhance students' intrinsic motivation, situational interest, and academic performance. However, excessive instructional "platformization," where digital devices dominate classroom interactions, often introduces new challenges such as digitally mediated surveillance that constrains the relational and pedagogical teacher-student relationship. This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) article aims to map the research developments on the utilization of digital technologies in differentiated instruction from 2021 to 2026. Utilizing a systematic review method guided by the PRISMA protocol, analyses were conducted on peer-reviewed studies from reputable international databases. The review findings indicate a shift in research focus from web-based content delivery to AI-driven adaptive instructional systems. The success of digital technology in DI must not be evaluated solely by its algorithmic automation efficiency, but rather by its capacity to restore students' metacognitive agency, support the humanistic mediating role of teachers, and strengthen social interactions in the classroom. The practical and theoretical implications of this transition from "personalization to humanization" are discussed to guide the design of child-friendly and equitable primary education platforms.

Abstract

Vocabulary recall is one of the key aspects of English language learning in elementary school. The use of learning media that aligns with students’ developmental characteristics is necessary to support the processes of information storage and retrieval. This study aims to describe the implementation of deep learning-based flashcards in supporting elementary school students’ English vocabulary recall. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SDN 1 Pakisrejo, Blitar Regency. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, involving the principal, teachers, and students as information sources. Data validity was verified through source and technique triangulation, while data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that flashcards were implemented through guessing games involving pictures and vocabulary, which encouraged students’ active engagement in learning. The combination of pictures and words on the flashcards helped students associate visual information with English vocabulary, while the guessing activities provided students with opportunities to recall previously learned information. Students showed enthusiasm and positive responses and stated that the use of images on the flashcards helped them remember vocabulary. Thus, flashcards can serve as a practical, interactive, and cost-effective alternative learning medium to support the recall of English vocabulary and create an active and enjoyable learning experience as part of deep learning.

Abstract

This research is intended to see how critical thinking studies develop in STEM education using a bibliometric approach related to 142 articles indexed in Scopus for 2014-2026. The analysis was conducted using VOS viewer and Bibliometrix to identify publication trends, major contributors, collaboration patterns, and the evolution of themes. Based on the results, the publications increase significantly since the year 2020 and peak in 2025, which indicate more attention to critical thinking in STEM education. Spread out research contributors where no author seems to dominate the research. However, the US and China were the countries with the highest citations. While some countries showed high impact based on average citations. The distribution of co-authorship patterns is scattered and still restricted to smaller groups which calls for increased global co-authorship. The most valuable articles pertained to technology, learning, innovation and interdisciplinary approaches as citation analysis suggests. Furthermore, the analysis of keywords indicates that critical thinking and STEM education are core themes which are evolving towards active learning, problem solving, and integration of AI like ChatGPT. A growing body of research provides evidence to confirm that this field continues to grow rapidly and plays a strategic role in the development of 21st century skills.
