Abstract

This study examines the role of digital literacy and critical thinking in enhancing learning outcomes in elementary education through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). A total of 15 national and international journal articles published between 2019 and 2025 were analyzed to identify research trends, the implementation of digital literacy, its relationship with critical thinking, and their impact on students’ learning outcomes. The findings reveal that digital literacy contributes significantly to students’ ability to access, evaluate, and utilize information effectively, while critical thinking supports problem-solving, analysis, and decision-making skills. The review also indicates a positive relationship between digital literacy and critical thinking, both of which contribute to improved academic achievement. Furthermore, instructional approaches such as Problem-Based Learning, inquiry-based learning, e-learning, and technology-enhanced learning environments were found to be effective in developing these competencies. Despite these benefits, challenges related to digital infrastructure, access to technology, and teachers’ digital competencies remain. Overall, digital literacy and critical thinking are essential competencies that support improved learning outcomes and prepare elementary school students for learning in the digital era.

Abstract

Inclusive education aims to provide equal learning opportunities for all students, including students with special needs, through the implementation of learning that is responsive to the diversity of learning needs. In its implementation, classroom teachers play an important role in creating adaptive and inclusive learning. This study aims to analyze the adaptive strategies of classroom teachers in supporting the learning of students with special needs at SDN Sumbersari 2 Malang City. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was obtained through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of classroom teachers, principals, special assistant teachers, parents, and students with special needs. Data validity was carried out through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking, while data analysis used the interactive model Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results showed that classroom teachers applied a variety of adaptive strategies, including learning differentiation, peer tutoring, media adjustment and learning activities, and collaboration with special assistant teachers and parents. In addition to supporting academic development, the strategy contributes to building positive social interaction and an inclusive classroom culture. Despite facing the limitations of mentoring and the various characteristics of students with special needs, teachers are able to develop flexible learning according to the needs of students. This research shows that the success of inclusive education depends not only on the availability of resources, but also on the ability of teachers to integrate adaptive learning strategies, multistakeholder collaboration, and inclusive school culture as sustainable learning practices.

Abstract

The low achievement in literacy and numeracy among elementary school students in Indonesia, as reflected in the 2022 PISA ranking, shows that a more interactive and contextual learning approach is needed. This literature study aims to examine the potential of integrating gamification and local wisdom to improve the reading literacy and numeracy of elementary school students. This research used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by reviewing peer-reviewed journal articles from the 2020–2026 period from four databases (Scopus, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and Garuda), which were then analyzed through thematic analysis and qualitative content analysis, and synthesized into three main themes. The results of the study show that gamification is effective in increasing students' motivation and learning engagement through elements such as points, challenges, and rewards, but it is still vulnerable to the novelty effect and to digital infrastructure constraints. On the other hand, local wisdom is superior in presenting meaningful and contextual learning by connecting the material with students' culture and environment, although it tends to be delivered through less interactive media. The integration of the two, as reflected in the development of GAMASURA, GEMALOKA, and Nusantara IPAS Quest, is shown to be complementary: gamification overcomes boredom, while local wisdom overcomes the alienation of content from students' daily lives. The concept of integration is formulated through three principles, namely cultural contextualization as the theme of the game, the application of game mechanic elements as a driver of engagement, and the alignment of literacy-numeracy achievement with the preservation of cultural values. This study provides practical implications for elementary school teachers in designing gamified, local wisdom-based learning media, and recommends further, larger-scale experimental research to test its effectiveness empirically.

Abstract

Science and Social Studies (IPAS) instruction in elementary schools plays a crucial role in building conceptual understanding through real-world experiences. However, 60% of students still struggle to grasp the abstract concept of energy transformation, and 72% report feeling bored by lecture-based teaching. This study aims to analyze the use of educational vlogs—based on the local potential of the Serut Dam and distributed via social media—to enhance students' understanding of energy transformation concepts. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving fourth-grade teachers and students from SDN 1, 2, and 3 Sananwetan, Blitar City. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the educational vlogs—developed using the SERUT framework (Investigate, Explore, Design, Upload, Broadcast/Test)—successfully provided a concrete visualization of the process of converting water energy into electricity via turbines and generators. This digital storytelling approach improved both conceptual understanding and active student engagement. Furthermore, publication on Instagram (garnering 2,131 views) and TikTok expanded access to flexible, independent learning. The findings suggest that improving scientific understanding requires the integration of local potential, multimedia, and sustained digital dissemination.
