Abstract

Risk assessment is a systematic procedure employed to detect potential dangers and evaluate the possible consequences of disasters or calamities, ensuring comprehensive hazard identification in the work environment. Integrating risk assessment into management and organizational processes is crucial, especially in healthcare settings like physiotherapy, where patient safety is paramount. This comprehensive review systematically compiled and analyzed relevant studies from scholarly journals, bibliographies, and related articles to evaluate the effectiveness of risk assessment procedures in identifying and mitigating potential hazards in physiotherapy practice. The review specifically focused on the use of the STEADI tool in conjunction with electronic health records (EHR) for joint risk assessments. The risk assessment process involves three key stages: identification, calculation, and implementation of control measures. Various methodologies were explored, including models like CATCH fall administration, PISTI management, multidisciplinary collaboration, and Fall TIPS. Falls, a major global health issue, are the 13th leading cause of death worldwide, with preventive strategies shown to reduce fall-related deaths by up to 92%. Effective risk assessment is essential for ensuring patient safety in physiotherapy. By identifying and mitigating potential risks, particularly those related to falls, healthcare providers can significantly improve patient outcomes and safety in clinical practice.

Abstract

Manual manipulative practices (MMPs), such as chiropractic spinal manipulation, osteopathic treatment, and Tui Na massage, are famous for improving musculoskeletal function but carry risks ranging from minor to severe side effects. Chiropractic therapy generally has minimal adverse effects, while Tui Na is less commonly used. A literature review on patient safety in MMPs involves evaluating studies, synthesizing findings, and identifying themes. While spinal manipulation can be beneficial, it may cause side effects like muscle soreness and headache and, in rare cases, severe complications like stroke. Reporting of adverse events has improved but still does not meet guidelines. Strategies to minimize risks include informed consent, thorough patient history, and adherence to clinical guidelines. These practices can enhance patient care and public health when applied with safety considerations.

Abstract

The implementation of Smoke Free Zone (SFZ) policies is a critical public health strategy, especially in densely populated urban settings. This study examines how residents of Kendari City, Indonesia, perceive and adapt to SFZ regulations enacted under Local Regulation No. 4 of 2019. Specifically, it explores community understanding, experiences, and behavioral responses to smoking restrictions in public spaces. A qualitative case study approach was employed, utilizing purposive sampling to select twelve informants from various socio economic backgrounds. Data were gathered through semi structured interviews, non-participant observation, and field documentation. Thematic analysis was used to interpret interview transcripts and observational notes. The findings show limited community understanding of SFZ boundaries, with common misconceptions about designated areas. While most residents support the policy’s intent, cultural norms and perceived lack of authority reduce active enforcement. Structural barriers such as economic hardship, nicotine addiction, and weak public communication further constrain compliance. Nonetheless, positive adaptations are evident, including peer influence, community-led signage, and selective smoking avoidance in public spaces. These behaviors reflect the role of informal networks and increasing health awareness. The study concludes that SFZ policy effectiveness is contingent on interdisciplinary approaches, inclusive communication, and localized community engagement. Rather than relying solely on top down regulation, integrating health messaging, urban design, and community leadership is essential for fostering sustained compliance. The insights from Kendari highlight the potential of participatory and culturally responsive strategies in strengthening public health policies.

Abstract

The adoption of digital health portals represents a major shift toward patient-centered care. These portals empower patients by improving access to health information and facilitating communication with providers. This review synthesizes evidence on how portals influence empowerment, with emphasis on digital literacy and health outcomes. Findings show that patients with strong digital skills actively use portals, achieve better chronic disease management, and report higher satisfaction. Quantitative evidence includes a 0.5% reduction in HbA1c and improved blood pressure regulation among users. However, vulnerable populations face persistent barriers such as limited literacy, low socioeconomic status, and inadequate infrastructure. Systemic obstacles like interoperability issues and provider workload also limit portal effectiveness. Policy strategies should focus on digital literacy education, universal internet access, and strong privacy protections to ensure equitable benefits. Future research must adopt longitudinal and inclusive approaches to strengthen evidence and guide equitable implementation

Abstract

The rapid digitization of healthcare has intensified concerns about data security, patient privacy, and system interoperability. This narrative review critically examines the potential and challenges of blockchain technology in addressing these issues. A systematic search was conducted in Scopus, PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and Google Scholar, focusing on studies published between 2019 and 2025 that explored blockchain applications in healthcare data security. The evidence indicates that blockchain provides tamper-proof storage of electronic health records, strengthens patient control through permissioned access, and enables transparent audit trails. Compared to conventional technologies, blockchain demonstrates stronger resilience against cyberattacks and enhances interoperability across fragmented systems. Integration with Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things further improves real-time analytics and secure device communication. However, barriers such as scalability constraints, high costs, regulatory uncertainty, and limited institutional expertise hinder its widespread adoption. These challenges are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries with limited infrastructure. The findings highlight the need for supportive policies, sustainable funding, and workforce training to enable equitable implementation. This review contributes by synthesizing current evidence, clarifying systemic barriers, and outlining strategies for responsible blockchain integration in healthcare systems.
