Al-Qalam: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Pendidikan merupakan jurnal peer-reviewed open-access yang didirikan untuk menyebarluaskan pengetahuan mutakhir di bidang kajian islam dan pendidikan islam. Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of Environmental Fiqh in Islam and its relevance in addressing contemporary ecological issues. Using a qualitative approach based on library research, this study analyzes primary sources from the Qur’an, hadith, and the literature of classical and contemporary scholars. The results of the study reveal four specific key findings: (1) Environmental Fiqh is structurally grounded in three main principles derived from the Qur’an and hadith, namely balance (mīzān) as stated in S. al-Raḥmān: 7–9, the prohibition against causing corruption (fasād) in Quran 2:11–12, and the obligation to be frugal and avoid wastefulness (isrāf and tabẓīr); (2) the concept of human stewardship (Quran 2:30) establishing binding ecological responsibilities, wherein environmental destruction is categorized as a betrayal of the divine trust; (3) Environmental Fiqh directly supports the five objectives of Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property since environmental degradation has been proven to threaten every aspect of these public interests; and (4) Islamic ecological principles, particularly intergenerational justice and ecosystem balance, align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), thereby enabling Environmental Fiqh to serve as Islam’s normative contribution to the global ecological discourse. These findings indicate that Environmental Fiqh constitutes a comprehensive Islamic legal framework that can be operationalized in addressing contemporary ecological crises.

Abstract

The challenges of the digital age call for an approach to Islamic education that can balance the spiritual motivation and moral self-control of Muslim adolescents. This study aims to analyze the concepts of targhīb and tarhīb in the Prophet’s hadiths and their relevance as a conceptual foundation for fostering the moral character of Muslim adolescents in the digital age. The study employs a qualitative approach using a narrative literature review through documentary analysis and content analysis of targhīb–tarhīb hadiths from the Kutub al-Sittah and Musnad Ahmad. The analysis focuses on twelve hadiths selected through purposive sampling based on their relevance to adolescent moral education, the elements of targhīb–tarhīb, the context of the digital age, and the hadith’s authenticity (classified as ṣaḥīḥ and ḥasan). The study is supported by hadith commentaries, Islamic educational literature, adolescent developmental psychology, and research on digital moral challenges. The results indicate that targhīb–tarhīb hadiths embody Islamic educational principles that balance hope and fear proportionally. The analysis yielded four main educational themes: spiritual motivation and personal worship; the development of social character and empathy; moral discipline and social responsibility; and integrity and honesty. This study affirms that the balance of targhīb–tarhīb holds normative and pedagogical relevance as a conceptual framework for the moral development of Muslim adolescents in the digital age.

Abstract

Sexual harassment is a multidimensional social problem that is shaped not only by individual desire, but also by power relations, institutional silence, digital exposure, and weak ethical literacy. This article examines the concept of ghadd al-baṣar in Q.S. al-Nūr [24]: 30-31 through Abdul Mustaqim’s tafsīr maqāṣidī and analyzes its relevance to the prevention of sexual harassment in contemporary physical and digital spaces. This study employs a qualitative library research design. The data were analyzed descriptively and analytically through eight stages: thematic reading of the verses, linguistic examination of key terms, contextual analysis of qadīm and jadīd settings, distinction between wasīlah and ghāyah, identification of maqāṣid values, hierarchical mapping of maqāṣid, interdisciplinary reflection, and synthesis of contemporary implications. The findings show that ghadd al-baṣar functions as a wasīlah for protecting religious integrity, human dignity, psychological safety, reason, and lineage. Its main contribution lies in expanding the interpretation of ghadd al-baṣar from an individual ethic of visual restraint into a social-collective ethic that requires family education, institutional policy, digital literacy, and victim-sensitive prevention mechanisms. Thus, tafsīr maqāṣidī enables Q.S. al-Nūr [24]: 30-31 to be read as a preventive ethical framework without reducing sexual harassment merely to the issue of gaze.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the professional competence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in integrating Islamic values ​​into the learning process at MTs Wadi Mubarak. The professional competence of PAI teachers includes a broad and in-depth mastery of teaching materials, the ability to develop effective learning strategies, and the ability to relate the material to the values ​​of faith, worship, and morals in the daily lives of students. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis used data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that Islamic Religious Education teachers have integrated Islamic values ​​in lesson planning, implementation of teaching and learning activities, and evaluation, emphasizing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. This integration is carried out through role models, habituation of worship, and strengthening of Islamic character. However, there are still obstacles such as limited time and innovation in learning methods. Therefore, continuous improvement of teacher professional competence is essential.

Abstract

The development of higher education in the digital era requires Generation Z students to be able to adapt to various increasingly complex academic demands. This study aims to determine the relationship between academic adaptation and self-regulation with academic burnout among Generation Z students of Islamic Religious Education. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational descriptive method. The research sample consisted of 20 Islamic Religious Education students from the 2023 cohort at the State Islamic University of Palangka Raya, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using Likert scale questionnaires and analyzed through validity tests, reliability tests, descriptive statistics, and Pearson correlation. The results of the study indicate that academic adaptation is in the high category, self-regulation is in the fairly high category, and academic burnout is in the low category. The correlation test results showed a significant negative relationship between academic adaptation and academic burnout, whereas self-regulation had a negative but not significant relationship. These findings imply that strengthening academic adaptation needs to be a primary concern in efforts to prevent academic burnout among Generation Z PAI students.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between learning motivation and academic resilience among students of the Islamic Education Study Program at UIN Palangka Raya. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational survey design. The population consisted of 50 students, while the sample involved 40 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 30 statement items, including 15 items measuring learning motivation and 15 items measuring academic resilience. The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability, resulting in Cronbach’s Alpha values of 0.872 for the learning motivation variable and 0.861 for the academic resilience variable, indicating that all items were valid and reliable. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, and Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis. The results showed that students’ learning motivation was categorized as very high with a percentage of 80%, while academic resilience was categorized as high with a percentage of 79%. The correlation test revealed a positive and significant relationship between learning motivation and academic resilience, with a correlation coefficient of 0.648 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. These findings indicate that higher learning motivation is associated with higher academic resilience in facing academic pressures and challenges. This study confirms that learning motivation plays an important role in strengthening the academic resilience of Islamic Education students.

Abstract

Rapid advances in digital technology have led to increasingly concerning changes in adolescent behavior, such as social media addiction and a decline in character awareness. These developments demand a significant shift in the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers. This study aims to comprehensively examine how IRE teachers understand and implement character education in the face of an ever-evolving digital landscape. A qualitative descriptive method was used to collect data directly from IRE teachers through in-depth interviews, observations, and analysis of educational materials, thereby providing a snapshot of the current situation. PAI teachers view character education as a crucial response to student behavior that has been negatively influenced by digital technology, particularly regarding gaming addiction and age-inappropriate content. Specifically, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers indicated that they utilize technology-based methods such as platforms including Islamic social media and digital learning environments while remaining aligned with religious principles. Additionally, the researchers found that these PAI teachers identified four key elements they emphasize in their teaching: strengthening faith as the foundation for character development, promoting ethical behavior through exemplary figures, enhancing religious understanding (fiqh and tafsir) as a guide, and studying Arabic as a tool for understanding
