Abstract

This study discusses positivism as one of the important milestones in the history of modern philosophy and its influence on the development of social sciences, especially in the context of Islamic social studies. Positivism, pioneered by Auguste Comte, emphasizes the importance of an empiricism-based scientific approach to understanding reality. This philosophy shifts the paradigm from a metaphysical approach to observing and verifying measurable facts. The influence of positivism in social sciences is seen in the development of systematic and data-oriented research methods. In Islamic social studies, the positivistic approach presents opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, it enriches research methodology by encouraging the use of empirical data. On the other hand, it clashes with Islamic epistemology which integrates revelation and reason as sources of knowledge. This study concludes that the positivistic approach can be critically adopted in Islamic social studies. Combining empirical methods with Islamic normative values is needed to create a more holistic social analysis. Thus, positivism, although limited to the empirical dimension, remains relevant if used wisely within the framework of the Islamic paradigm.

Abstract

This article discusses the influence of Persia on the development of Shia Islam, particularly from a political perspective, focusing on the roles of the Safavid and Qajar dynasties. The Safavid Dynasty (1501–1736), founded by Ismail I, established the Imami sect as the state religion, uniting various tribes and ethnic groups in Persia and strengthening a national identity rooted in Shia Islam. The legacy of this dynasty is evident in its grand architectural achievements and literary contributions that enriched Persian culture. Subsequently, the Qajar Dynasty (late 18th to early 20th century) continued to play a strategic role in consolidating Shia Islam's position. Initiated by Agha Mohammed Khan Qajar, this dynasty unified Persia’s territories and elevated the role of religious scholars as key figures in society. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach to analyze how these two dynasties institutionalized Shia Islam as the state religion and a cornerstone of national identity. Key findings reveal that the Safavid and Qajar dynasties played crucial roles in establishing Persia as the global center of Shia thought and practice, significantly impacting the geopolitical dynamics of the Islamic world. This influence solidified Persia’s position as a global hub for Shia Islam and reinforced its identity within the Islamic political landscape to the present day.

Abstract

The quality of education at MTI Canduang faces several challenges, with 40 out of 92 teachers not fully aligned in terms of their educational qualifications and the subjects they teach. Additionally, 60% of teachers demonstrate effective teaching skills, 40% exhibit high motivation in the learning process, such as engaging in interactive discussions and providing constructive feedback, and 36% actively utilize technology in teaching, including digital presentations and instructional videos. This study aims to analyze the influence of AVOS-based Academic Supervision and Post-Supervision Follow-Up on the Quality of Education in Islamic Boarding Schools across Agam Regency. The research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design, using questionnaires as the primary data collection instrument. The findings reveal: 1) AVOS-based Academic Supervision has a correlation with the Quality of Education (r = 0.542, p = 0.000). 2) Post-Supervision Follow-Up significantly affects the Quality of Education (r = 0.595, p = 0.000). 3) AVOS-based Academic Supervision and Post-Supervision Follow-Up collectively influence the Quality of Education. Simultaneous ANOVA testing indicates that F calculated (24.399) > F table (3.10) with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. These results underscore the critical role of supervision and follow-up actions in enhancing educational quality.

Abstract

Language plays an important role in communication and learning, as well as serving as a means to instil moral and spiritual values. However, language teaching and the application of Islamic values are often conducted separately, which results in a limited impact on the overall development of students. This study aims to analyse the concept of the interconnection approach in language teaching and Islamic values, as well as examine its impact on education in Islamic-based institutions. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study approach, analysing various relevant sources to find the relationship between language teaching and Islamic values, as well as its effect on the formation of students' Islamic character. The results show that the interconnection approach can integrate linguistic competence with the reinforcement of Islamic values, creating a learning experience that not only improves language skills but also internalizes moral and spiritual values. This approach, by combining linguistic and religious aspects, provides an innovative solution to face the challenges of globalization in education. The interconnection approach is expected to be an effective learning model, equipping students with solid language skills while making Islamic values a moral guide in daily life.
