Abstract

This study aims to develop a model for fostering children’s religious character by integrating routine Qur’an recitation with the commemoration of Islamic holidays (PHBI) within a community service context through the Real Work College (KKN) program. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected over one month through observation, interviews, and documentation involving children, parents, and local religious leaders. The findings reveal notable improvements in children’s abilities to read and memorize short surahs, perform daily prayers, maintain worship discipline, and internalize the moral virtues of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Maulid Nabi celebration, supported by parents and community leaders, strengthened communal bonds and provided positive role models, confirming that children’s spiritual growth is significantly shaped by sociocultural environments. Challenges such as limited educational resources, varied skill levels, and time constraints highlight the need for creative learning materials, broader stakeholder involvement, and the use of digital tools in future programs. Overall, the integration of Qur’an recitation and Islamic holiday celebrations proves to be an effective strategy for instilling enduring religious values while enhancing children’s moral character and social skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify barriers and design digital literacy strategies that can be implemented in rural elementary schools. This study is unique because it highlights the under-researched situation in rural elementary schools, specifically SD Negeri 1702 Pir Trans Sosa 1A in Padang Lawas Regency, using a practical approach adapted to the limited facilities. In rural elementary education, the main challenges identified are limited access to information and communication technology, a lack of supporting facilities, and differences in digital skills between rural and urban populations. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method by collecting data through observation, interviews, and document collection. The subjects of the study consisted of teachers, principals, and students involved in the teaching and learning process. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that despite various challenges, there are opportunities to improve digital literacy through several strategic steps, such as conducting regular training for teachers, developing simple digital learning media that can be accessed offline, and establishing active collaboration between schools, parents, and the government. The importance of all parties' roles in creating an educational ecosystem that supports digital literacy was also emphasized. Good digital literacy is expected to increase student participation, develop critical thinking skills, and help them face the challenges of the technological era. With the right strategic support and ongoing collaboration, elementary schools in rural areas can improve students' digital competency and narrow the gap with schools in urban areas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of learning facilities in improving the understanding of tahsin among regular students at SMA 2 Muhammadiyah Medan. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a field study approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and document analysis. Observations were conducted directly to assess the condition of facilities supporting tahsin, such as classrooms, standardized Qur’anic manuscripts, and learning media. In-depth interviews were carried out with students, tahsin teachers, and school administrators to obtain a comprehensive overview of the effectiveness of the available facilities. Document analysis examined school policies and supporting data related to Qur’anic learning. The findings reveal that SMA 2 Muhammadiyah Medan has provided relatively adequate facilities, including conducive classrooms, the availability of Qur’anic manuscripts, and the use of digital devices in the learning process. These facilities have been proven to support students’ improvement in tajwīd application and correct articulation of letters. Both students and teachers generally expressed positive perceptions of the existing facilities, as students felt it was easier to understand tahsin with the available support. Nevertheless, the study also identified areas for further development, such as the addition of diverse audio-visual media and the enhancement of digital facility utilization to strengthen the effectiveness of the learning process.

This study explores the implementation of the living hadith “Cleanliness is part of faith” within the school culture at MI Al-Huda Karangnongko. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving students and teachers as key informants. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model and validated through triangulation. The findings indicate that the hadith is not only understood as a religious teaching but is also practiced consistently through daily routines such as cleaning classrooms, maintaining personal hygiene, and participating in school-wide cleanliness activities. This implementation contributes to shaping students' character, responsibility, and awareness of cleanliness both at school and at home. The study is expected to provide insight into how living hadith practices can support religious education and character development in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe Qur’anic learning strategies, portray the quality of students’ Qur’anic reading ability, and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in Qur’anic instruction at Pondok Pesantren Modern Darul Husna Langgapayung. A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted iteratively through data organization, selection, presentation of findings, and conclusion drawing, while data trustworthiness was strengthened through triangulation of techniques and sources. The findings indicate that Qur’anic instruction is implemented through a combination of strategies, namely cooperative learning (small groups of four to five students), the application of the Qira’ati method with immediate correction, habituation of Qur’anic reading before the start of lessons, and ability-based grouping (fluent and moderate). Based on Qur’anic reading assessments using indicators of fluency, smoothness, accuracy of makhraj, and tajwīd, out of 51 eighth-grade students, 31 students (60.8%) were classified as fluent and 20 students (39.2%) as moderate. Difficulties among the moderate group primarily involved the articulation of certain letters and the consistent application of tajwīd rules, particularly madd and ikhfā’. Supporting factors include students’ intrinsic motivation and sincere intention, teachers’ instructional innovation, and institutional facilities, while inhibiting factors encompass boredom, lack of motivation, and limited learning time. These findings underscore the importance of integrating technical instruction, habituation, cooperation, and differentiated learning services to achieve more equitable improvements in the quality of Qur’anic reading.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Qur’anic Reading and Writing Program (QRW) at MTs S NU Padang Masiang, Barus, Central Tapanuli, Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative field approach, the research aimed to (1) describe how QRW is implemented and identify supporting and inhibiting factors. Data were collected over approximately three months through classroom observations of QRW sessions, semi-structured interviews with the school principal, QRW teachers, and seventh-grade students, and documentation review. Data were analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, supported by source and method triangulation as well as member checking to enhance credibility. The findings indicate that QRW is implemented as a compulsory extracurricular activity held three times a week and generally supports students’ Qur’anic literacy and the cultivation of discipline, perseverance, and religious habits. However, program effectiveness is constrained by varied initial student competencies, limited instructional time, and inconsistent family support and religious practices in the surrounding environment. The study argues that strengthening diagnostic assessment, differentiated instruction, teacher capacity building, and school–parent collaboration along with more systematic monitoring and evaluation are essential to optimize BTQ outcomes and to inform the development of contextual Qur’anic learning models in madrasahs.

Abstract

Multicultural education is an essential need in educational environments characterized by social and cultural diversity, including Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). As religious-based educational institutions, pesantren possess distinctive characteristics in managing students from diverse regional, cultural, and backgrounds. This study aims to examine the implementation of multicultural educational values at Darul Fikri Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, focusing on students’ dormitory life, the role of educators, and the challenges encountered in the process. This study employed a qualitative case study design. Data were gathered through observation and in-depth interviews with administrators and educators, then analyzed using data condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that multicultural values are internalized through heterogeneous dormitory life and structured mentoring. Specifically, the study finds that strategic room allocation, which mixes students across classes, effectively prevents social exclusivism. The dual role of educator, particularly Ustadz Kardi as both supervisor and administrator, ensures consistent modeling of tolerance. Despite regional language barriers, continuous guidance enables students to adapt and build inclusiveness, as natural social practices in dormitories are more effective than formal instruction in fostering multiculturalism.
