Abstract

Changes in land cover within industrial areas have the potential to reduce soil infiltration capacity and increase the risk of surface runoff and flooding. This study aims to analyze and compare infiltration capacities across various land cover types within the industrial area of PT Semen Padang. Infiltration measurements were conducted using the double-ring infiltrometer method on several land cover types, namely greenbelt areas, open land, and developed areas. The data obtained were analyzed using the Horton model approach to determine initial and constant infiltration rates. The results indicate that greenbelt areas exhibit the highest infiltration capacity, with an average constant infiltration rate of 183.3 mm/h, followed by open land at 74 mm/h, while built-up areas showed the lowest rate at 35.9 mm/h. These differences are influenced by soil density, organic matter content, and vegetation root activity. These findings indicate that an increase in built-up surface area significantly reduces the soil’s ability to infiltrate water, thereby potentially increasing surface runoff. This study recommends the implementation of green infrastructure and the conservation of vegetated land to support sustainable stormwater management in industrial areas.

Abstract

This community service program, conducted by Universitas Negeri Padang in Nagari Kamang Hilia, Agam Regency, focused on the planning, construction, and utilization of a micro-hydro power plant to support local agricultural activities. The program began with coordination with the Nagari government and community to identify challenges and beneficiaries, followed by technical surveys including water discharge mapping, hydraulic head measurement, and land suitability analysis using GIS and UAV-based mapping. Based on these data, detailed engineering designs were prepared for the turbulence-based intake structure, inlet channel, and powerhouse. The project then advanced to the construction of civil works, the installation of turbines, generators, and control panels, and the testing of the operational system. With an installed capacity of up to 5 kW, the plant now provides renewable electricity for agricultural use and street lighting, helping reduce dependence on costly diesel engines. Training and counseling were also delivered to ensure that the community can operate and maintain the system independently. The program demonstrates how micro-hydro technology can be effectively applied to foster rural electrification, empower local farmers, and contribute to sustainable development goals.

Abstract

Overburden removal is a critical determinant of production continuity in open-pit coal mining, yet inefficiencies in equipment utilization frequently hinder the achievement of production targets. At PT Kurnia Alam Investama, a monthly overburden stripping target of 150,000 BCM for February 2025 was established, to be achieved using two equipment fleets with a planned capacity of 75,000 BCM/month per fleet. However, preliminary observations indicate a discrepancy between planned and actual production, highlighting the need for a systematic evaluation of equipment performance and fleet compatibility. This study aims to assess the productivity and operational synchronization of a CAT 330 GC excavator and Mitsubishi Fuso 220 PS 6x4 HD dump trucks through cycle time analysis, productivity estimation, and match factor evaluation. The results show that actual productivity reached 67,150.72 BCM/month for the excavator and 52,407.4 BCM/month for the hauling units, both below the production target. The average cycle times were recorded at 0.343 minutes for the excavator and 5.39 minutes for the dump trucks. The calculated match factor (MF < 1) indicates an imbalance in the loading–hauling system, resulting in excavator idle time due to insufficient truck availability. The findings reveal that equipment condition and operator performance are the dominant factors affecting productivity losses. This study emphasizes the importance of fleet balancing, cycle time optimization, and operational improvements to enhance equipment utilization and achieve production targets efficiently.

Abstract

Modern surveying technologies, including Total Station and Laser Waterpass, are essential in construction and surveying activities. However, SMKN 1 Bukittinggi still faces limited access to digital surveying instruments and limited structured training. This community service program aimed to improve the competence of teachers and students in operating digital measuring instruments through theoretical instruction, simulation, field practice, data analysis, and pretest-posttest evaluation. The implementation stages included coordination with the partner school, preparation of training modules, introduction to instrument principles, hands-on measurement activities, processing of field data using GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D, mentoring, and program evaluation. The results showed an improvement in participants' conceptual understanding and practical skills. The post-training competency completion rate reached 32%, indicating that the training had a positive effect on participants' digital competence, although additional practice and continuous mentoring are still needed. The program also produced training materials and documentation that can support future learning at the school.

Abstract

In the era of Industry 4.0, UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) have become key technologies used widely, not only for military operations but also for mapping, monitoring volcanic activity, and producing documentary videos. Two tools advancing rapidly and highly relevant to vocational education are drones and theodolites. Their adoption in vocational schools still lags behind, especially in rural areas, so Geomatics teachers need capacity building to update Land Surveying course materials and transfer practical skills to students. This science and technology outreach program aims to equip teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Lubuk Sikaping with foundational knowledge and skills for operating drones and theodolites, along with data analysis for aerial mapping. The training is arranged sequentially, beginning with an introduction to platforms, sensors, operating principles, and safety; continuing with field practice covering mission planning, control point acquisition, and calibration procedures; and concluding with data and video processing for construction project needs, including georeferencing, orthomosaic generation, elevation modeling, and extracting relevant measurements. The targeted outputs include scientific publications in ISSN journals or national proceedings, an activity video of about 3 to 4 minutes, and coverage in print or online media. Through this program, the gap in technology and information mastery is expected to narrow, the curriculum to become more current, and teachers’ pedagogical and technical competencies to improve, particularly in structural and mapping applications. Graduates under their guidance will be better prepared to enter industry with strong spatial literacy, careful data acquisition, and a solid safety culture.
