Abstract

Smoking behavior is bad behavior, especially for teenagers who are still in junior high school. In a survey obtained at SMPN 12, Nanggalo District, Padang City, of the 10 students interviewed, there were 9 students who had smoked because it affected the parenting style given by their parents. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and smoking behavior in adolescent boys at SMPN 12, Nanggalo District, Padang City in 2023.This research was conducted at SMPN 12, Nanggalo District, Padang City in December 2022-August 2023. This of research is quantitative, the design used is descriptive analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The population 249 students and the sample 71 respondents. Data collection techniques using random sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out for 2 days on 19-20 June 2023 by filling in a questionnaire. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-quare test. The results showed that less than half (46.5%) were heavy smokers, less than half (42.3%) had permissive parenting styles. There is a relationship between parenting patterns and smoking behavior among maleteenagers at SMPN 12, Nanggalo District, Padang City in 2023 with p-value=0.001 (p,0.05). The conclusion of this study is that parenting style is very influential in shaping adolescentbehavior.

Abstract

Dining table hygiene in restaurants is a critical issue because microbial contamination can lead to foodborne illness. Natural disinfectants made from cinnamon bark essential oil (Cinnamomum burmannii) offer a safer alternative due to their antibacterial compounds, particularly cinnamaldehyde and eugenol. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cinnamon bark essential oil spray at concentrations of 2%, 4%, and 6% in reducing the germ count on dining tables. A quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design was employed. The study involved 24 dining table germ count measurements with six replications for each treatment and control group. Data were analyzed using Paired Samples t-Test, One-Way ANOVA, and LSD tests. The results showed that the average germ count decreased from 104 to 30.8 CFU/cm² at 2% concentration, from 101.2 to 23.2 CFU/cm² at 4%, and from 99 to 13.3 CFU/cm² at 6%. Statistical analysis indicated significant reductions before and after treatment (p = 0.000) and significant differences among concentrations (p = 0.009). Therefore, cinnamon bark essential oil has strong potential as a natural disinfectant for restaurant dining tables.

Abstract

In Indonesia, occupational safety and health (K3) issues are still often ignored. One of the main causes of occupational accidents is the lack of information on the implementation of K3. The ILO estimates that 2 million lives per year are claimed as a result of work accidents. Based on observations and interviews, ACTEM has several machines in the spinning to dyeing department that pose a high risk to the safety of workers, and still has workers who have not implemented K3. This research is an analytical descriptive research with a cross-sectional method with the title “Factors Associated with the Application of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) to Workers at PT Acryl Textile Mills (ACTEM) in 2024”. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors associated with the application of occupational safety and health (OHS) in workers at PT ACTEM in 2024. The population in this study was workers in the spinning and dyeing department of PT ACTEM. The sample of this study amounted to 91 workers. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and observation sheets. The data were then processed through editing, coding, data entry, and cleaning, and analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. Based on the results of the study using the chi-square test, it was found that there were 2 variables that had no relationship with the application of K3, namely compliance with company regulations and K3 counseling. Meanwhile, the variables of K3 knowledge, K3 commitment, and work environment supervision show that there is a relationship with K3 implementation.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains a highly prevalent communicable disease. In Koto Tangah Village, Tanah Datar Regency, 42 ARI cases were reported during the last three months based on data from Tanjung Emas Health Center in 2025. Environmental factors, particularly bedroom ventilation and air humidity, are suspected to contribute to ARI incidence. This study aimed to describe the ventilation and air humidity conditions of bedrooms occupied by ARI patients. A descriptive quantitative design was used with total sampling of 42 houses of ARI patients. Primary data were collected through direct measurements using a measuring tape and humidity meter, while secondary data were obtained from Tanjung Emas Health Center. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that 69.0% of bedrooms had inadequate ventilation (≤10% of floor area), and 81.0% had air humidity outside the recommended range of 40–60%. In conclusion, most bedrooms of ARI patients did not meet health standards, indicating the need to improve air circulation and maintain appropriate indoor humidity to reduce the risk of ARI.

Abstract

Madong Village is a coastal area located in Kampung Bugis Subdistrict, characterized by swamps, lagoons, ponds, puddles, fishponds, and excavation sites that potentially serve as breeding places for Anopheles mosquitoes. Based on discussions with the Tanjungpinang City Health Office, several breeding habitats were identified as potentially positive for mosquito larvae. This study aimed to identify the density of habitats positive for Anopheles larvae in Madong Village. The research used a quantitative descriptive method with an observational survey design. The results showed that the distribution of breeding places formed curved, elongated, and separated patterns, consisting of both permanent and temporary habitats. The characteristics of these habitats included areas exposed and unexposed to direct sunlight, vegetation surrounding the habitats, and the presence of aquatic animals such as tilapia, snakehead fish, dragonfly larvae, and frogs. The average water pH ranged from 5.9–9.7, salinity was 0‰, and water temperature ranged from 29.1–34.7°C. All observed breeding places were negative for Anopheles larvae, resulting in a habitat index of 0%, indicating that the area is safe from malaria transmission by Anopheles mosquitoes. This study recommends that local health authorities conduct regular vector control and monitoring of potential mosquito breeding habitats to maintain environmental health and prevent malaria transmission.
