Abstract

A disaster is an event or series of events that threaten and disrupt people's lives and livelihoods, which can be caused by natural, non-natural, or human factors. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes can cause death, physical injury, and even mental health disorders, especially in vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly. Panca Budi Junior High School, Medan, is located in an area frequently affected by flooding, so the school's environmental conditions require students to have adequate knowledge and preparedness to face the potential for such disasters. The lack of student understanding regarding the causes, impacts, and steps to deal with floods is the main background for the need for disaster education in the school environment. This study aims to analyze the level of student knowledge and preparedness before and after being provided with counseling on flood mitigation. The method used was a quasi-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design, involving 50 students selected through multistage sampling. The research instrument was a 20-item knowledge and preparedness questionnaire using the Guttman scale. The results of the study showed a significant increase after the educational intervention was given, where the average pre-test score of 9.48 increased to 16.46 in the post-test. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a Z value of –6.125 with p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which proves that the counseling has a significant effect on increasing students' knowledge and preparedness. In conclusion, disaster counseling is effective in improving the understanding and preparedness of Panca Budi Medan Middle School students in facing flood risks.

Abstract

Background: Traffic accidents and other disasters are the main causes of death in urban areas, so that the knowledge and skills of nurses regarding the separation of patient types based on their emergencies are needed better, optimally and on target. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nurse skills and the accuracy of triage implementation in patients in the Emergency Department. Method: This study used a correlation analytic research approach with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study was 37 respondents and the sample using total sampling was 37 respondents. The instruments of this study were observation sheets of nurse skills and triage implementation. The univariate analysis that will be calculated is gender, age, education, length of service, nurse skills, and triage implementation. While for the bivariate analysis, it is to relate nurse skills to the accuracy of triage implementation. Results: The results of this study using the ANOVA test and stated that there is a significant relationship between nurse skills and the accuracy of triage implementation obtained a p value of 0.0005 (ɑ<0.05). Conclusion: Most nurses working in the Emergency Room have high nursing skill scores and high triage implementation scores, so there is a relationship between nursing skills and the accuracy of triage implementation in patients. Emergency nurse triage skills focus on rapid assessment, patient categorization, and patient placement. Triage serves not only as a core skill but also as a tool for managing, monitoring, and evaluating patients and available resources.

Abstract

Detection and counting of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria is an important indicator in assessing water quality and food safety, particularly in the field of environmental health. Conventional methods still require a long time, skilled personnel, and have the potential to cause subjectivity in microscopic observations. This study aims to design and build a digital microscope system equipped with an automatic bacterial counting system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The use of this technology is expected to accelerate microbiological analysis, improve detection accuracy, and reduce subjectivity in the manual counting process. The study was conducted using an experimental approach with the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method. The dataset consists of 3,011 bacterial images divided into 74% training data, 13% validation data, and 13% test data. The object detection model uses YOLOv11 integrated with Roboflow for annotation and dataset management. Test results show that the model achieved a detection accuracy of 94.1% on the test data, indicating good performance in identifying and counting E. coli colonies. The system is also equipped with a Streamlit-based interface to facilitate users in visualizing detection results in real-time. Thus, the design of this AI-based digital microscope can be an effective and efficient solution to accelerate and improve the accuracy of microbiological analysis, especially in the detection of E. coli bacteria in the fields of environmental health and food safety.

Abstract

Anemia is a public health problem that is still often found in adolescent age groups, especially adolescent girls. Anemia in adolescent girls remains a health problem that impacts fitness, concentration, and academic achievement, so an effective educational strategy is needed to increase the consumption of Iron Supplement Tablets (TTD). This study aims to analyze the effect of anemia education through animated video media on knowledge, attitudes, and compliance with TTD consumption in female students of SMPN 31 Medan. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test design and involved 56 eighth-grade female students. The intervention was in the form of playing an educational animated video with a duration of ± 3 minutes, while the instruments included a knowledge questionnaire, an attitude questionnaire, and a compliance control card. Analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, attitudes, and compliance after education, with a p value of 0.000 each (p < 0.05). Knowledge in the good category increased from 33.9% to 100%, good attitude increased from 28.6% to 66.1%, and compliance from completely non-compliant changed to 57.1% compliant. The conclusion of the study shows that anemia education through animated videos is effective in increasing understanding, forming positive attitudes, and encouraging compliance with iron supplement consumption in adolescent girls, so it is worthy of being recommended as a promotional education medium in schools.

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition of permanent decline in kidney function, so that most patients require hemodialysis therapy. Hemodialysis can affect the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients, which impacts the quality of life. One of the impacts / effects of chronic kidney failure undergoing hemodialysis is anemia. Untreated anemia can worsen physical conditions, reduce quality of life, and even increase the risk of premature death. Methods: The study used a quantitative cross-sectional approach. The sample was conducted using purposive sampling with calculations using the Slovin formula which obtained a total of 69 respondents. Anemia status was measured based on hemoglobin levels in the last 1 month, while quality of life was measured using the WHOQOL-BREF. Results: The results of the study showed that respondents who experienced anemia (Hb <10 mg/dL) were 69.6% and the majority of respondents had a poor quality of life of 58.0%. From the chi-square analysis, it was seen that there was a significant relationship between anemia and quality of life in chronic kidney failure patients, namely with a p-value of 0.027 (p <0.05). Discussion: A significant relationship between anemia and quality of life in hemodialysis patients is because anemia can cause symptoms such as fatigue, decreased physical activity ability, impaired concentration, and discomfort that affect the physical and psychological aspects of patients. This is in line with the theory that suboptimal oxygen supply due to low hemoglobin levels will disrupt organ function and overall quality of life. Conclusion: This shows a relationship between anemia and quality of life in hemodialysis patients at Moh Ridwan Meuraksa Class II Hospital.
