Abstract

Digital technology has significantly transformed the world of education. This includes English language learning, which still faces challenges due to student unmotivation and disengagement. The direct reading method has been proven effective in improving intensive and extensive reading skills, but if not combined with creative strategies, this method is often perceived as monotonous. Therefore, digital technology helps increase student motivation and engagement in reading and learning. This study employed a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. Students selected through purposive sampling were 11th-grade students from a high school in Majalengka. Two classes served as samples. The experimental class, consisting of more than 35 students, used the digitally assisted direct reading method, while the control class used conventional methods. Research tools included reading comprehension tests, motivation questionnaires, observations, and semi-structured interviews. T-tests and effect sizes were used to analyze qualitative data; source triangulation was used for quantitative data. The results showed that the experimental group had significantly improved compared to the control group. The average reading comprehension score in the experimental group increased from 65.2 to 81.7, while in the control group, it increased from 64.8 to 72.4 (p = 0.001; d = 0.85). Student motivation in the experimental group increased from 3.21 to 4.12, while in the control group it only increased from 3.18 to 3.54. In the experimental group, student engagement in behavioral, emotional, and cognitive aspects increased significantly. Therefore, this study concludes that incorporating digital technology into the direct reading method is proven effective in improving student comprehension, increasing motivation, and engagement. Moreover, this is an appropriate approach to meet the learning needs of the modern generation.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the implementation of QS. Al-Baqarah verse 26 and QS. Ali Imran verse 64 in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning at the elementary school level through a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach to instill the values of multiculturalism. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method using literature review, observation, and interviews as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that PjBL-based IRE learning is effective in shaping students’ multicultural character, thereby making religious education more relevant and meaningful within its social context. This article recommends PjBL as a character education strategy that can strengthen tolerance and inclusivity in elementary schools. The PjBL approach was chosen because it enables students’ active engagement across cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains through contextual and collaborative project activities. Its implementation is reflected in simple yet meaningful projects that foster cooperation, creativity, and value reflection, allowing students not only to understand the textual meaning of the verses but also to internalize moral messages of tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence in diversity. Furthermore, the school environment is utilized as a social laboratory that reinforces the learning of these values through cross-group social interactions. Thus, this study emphasizes that integrating Qur’anic values through PjBL can serve as a strategic model in religious education to cultivate a tolerant, inclusive generation prepared to live in a multicultural society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms, effectiveness, and challenges of service differentiation strategies implemented by SMP IT Al-Muhsinin Integrated Islamic Junior High School, located in a semi-urban area. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The findings reveal that SMP IT Al-Muhsinin applies differentiation strategies through the integration of national and Islamic curricula, a humanistic learning approach, contextual extracurricular activities based on Islamic values, and responsive administrative services. These strategies have been proven to increase public trust and student enrollment, while also shaping a positive image as a modern Islamic educational institution. Nevertheless, their implementation faces several challenges, including limited facilities, disparities in teachers’ competencies, and the diverse social backgrounds of the community. This study recommends strengthening infrastructure, enhancing teacher capacity, and developing adaptive educational communication strategies aligned with the local context as steps for further improvement.

Abstract

Trying to translate children’s story is not easy. Thus, to make children understand the translated text, the translator should really find the understandable word for children in the target language. Not only that, the translator also should be able to fix and match the culture of the target language as well as linguistics and extra-linguistics of the target language. Regarding that, this study intends to know the level of loss and gain in translation of the children’s story book entitled The Tale of Peter Rabbit written by Beatrix Potter who was known as English Writer for children's books featuring animals. Thus, the story of Indonesian version which has translated by Yulie Dhaniaty was also presented. Dealing with this study, in this case, there are three levels of loss and gain in translation: the level of word, phrase, and clause. Hence, those three levels are analyzed in both English and Indonesian versions. To do this study, the qualitative method is used. There are some steps of analyzing data, firstly, the text of the story in both English and Indonesian versions is read by the researcher. Then, the level of loss and gain in translation of the story is analyzed. Hence, the results show that the gain process is the dominant one. Thus, the loss in translation is also shown in some events of the story. From those results, it is summed that the loss and gain occurred because the translator wants to make the story more natural, alive and meaningful.
