Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between Islam, radicalism, and terrorism. Radicalism, which arises from an exclusionary attitude in forcing religious understanding, can bring good change or danger. Terrorism, as a result of radicalism, can attack society through extreme beliefs. The research methods used are qualitative and literature review. The results of the study discuss the understanding of radicalism, terrorism, and factors that facilitate the occurrence of terrorist crimes. Terrorism is considered organized crime with alarming national and international networks. The article also highlights the importance of a correct understanding of Qur'anic verses related to jihad, stressing that jihad in Islam is an attempt to defend the truth and protect da'wah, not to commit violence or terrorism. The threat of radicalism and terrorism is regulated in Indonesia's positive law, with the emphasis that a proper understanding of the issue is essential to prevent misuse of religious teachings.

Abstract

Utilitarianism, introduced by Jeremy Bentham in the 18th century, proposes that the moral correctness of actions is judged on the basis of consequences that result in maximum happiness or well-being for the individuals involved, known as "the greatest happiness principle". However, the main criticism of this approach highlights the disregard for individual rights and the potential to justify unethical actions on the grounds of producing greater happiness overall. Criticism of Bentham's utilitarianism suggests that a focus on external consequences often overrides the internal moral values of an action, such as justice or moral obligation. The implication of this critique on modern understandings of justice, human rights, and moral values is the importance of considering deeper and broader moral aspects in ethical decision-making. In the face of the complexities of human life, not only the expected end result must be considered, but also fundamental moral principles such as individual human rights and just justice. A holistic ethical approach that integrates a variety of theories, including utilitarianism, deontology, and values approaches, is needed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the moral challenges faced by modern society. Thus, Bentham's critique of utilitarianism provides the basis for deeper reflection on the application of ethical principles in a broader and inclusive context..

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic, spanning from late 2019 to early 2022, profoundly impacted various facets of human life, demanding adaptation to unprecedented changes. This study focuses on students at the tertiary level, who, during this period of transition from late adolescence to early adulthood, face the dual challenges of academic responsibilities and the developmental task of identity formation. The pandemic has exacerbated these challenges, leading to increased overthinking and a sense of meaninglessness among students. This study explores how Sufi values, specifically Khauf (fear) and Raja' (hope), can be implemented to control overthinking and prevent meaninglessness. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, this research combines field studies, including interviews, documentation, and observation, with a literature review to analyze the internalization process of these Sufi values among students during the Covid-19 pandemic. The findings reveal that the internalization of Khauf and Raja' effectively mitigates overthinking and enhances the students' psychological resilience, enabling them to find meaning in their lives despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. This study contributes to the discourse on spiritual approaches to mental health, emphasizing the importance of integrating Sufi principles in addressing psychological issues in educational settings.
