Abstract

The term Thaifah Manshurah (the victorious group) has been adopted by certain extremist violent groups. Previously, since the 1980s, they more commonly referred to themselves as mujahidin (those who engage in jihad). The issue of contradictions among various hadith has long been a subject of discussion in hadith studies, especially in the context of confronting enemies of Islam who attempt to fabricate hadith with the aim of dividing the Muslim community. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the authenticity and classification of hadith, particularly in educational contexts. The addition of this designation is intended to motivate and sustain a spirit of struggle. They claim to be the group foretold to always prevail in struggle and combat, as mentioned in the saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “Thaifah Manshurah is the victorious group.” However, hadith scholars differ in their interpretations regarding who exactly constitutes this victorious group. In reality, the term Thaifah Manshurah does not only refer to those engaged in warfare, but also encompasses individuals who consistently uphold righteousness and virtue. This study is a library research employing the method of takhrij al-hadith. The object of this research is the hadith found in Sahih Ibn Hibban, narrated by Muhammad ibn Hibban al-Busti, concerning Thaifah Manshurah, understood as the victorious or striving group. The findings of this study indicate that the hadith is muttashil (having an unbroken chain) reaching back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Its narrators are regarded as ‘adl (upright) and dhabit (precise in transmission), and its matn (text) falls into the category of ghayr shadh (non-anomalous) and ghayr ‘illah (free from hidden defects).

Abstract

Abstract This study explores the understanding of Hadith in the context of modern multicultural societies and the digital era, as well as its impact on social behavior and the role of scholars in disseminating teachings. The research aims to understand how Hadith comprehension influences attitudes and social relationships and how scholars can utilize digital technology for Hadith education. The research employs a qualitative case study with a descriptive approach, involving in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis as data collection techniques. Data analysis is performed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and relationships in qualitative data. The findings indicate that a deep and accurate understanding of Hadith can reinforce positive social values such as justice and tolerance, while incorrect interpretations may lead to social conflict. Additionally, interpreting Hadith in multicultural societies requires an inclusive approach, and scholars need to adapt digital communication skills to effectively disseminate teachings. The study provides insights into the challenges and solutions for leveraging Hadith in a complex modern era. Keywords: Digital Era, Hadisth Understanding,Multicultural Society.

Abstract

It is undeniable that the benefits of the Quran are not only taken by scientists by studying it in depth at academic tables, but its benefits are also enjoyed and used as a guideline for daily life by the general public, even its verses are believed to be a means of bringing sustenance and medicine to cure diseases. The use of the verses of the Quran among such communities can be studied using the living Quran approach; studying and examining the verses of the Quran that live in the midst of society. This paper will discuss the discussion of the living Quran as a new approach in the study of the Quran. It will discuss the meaning of the term living Quran, history and living Quran across history, methods, urgency, procedures, things to consider, several examples of living Quran research, and examples of living Quran research results. With the living Quran approach, research on the Quran does not stop at the conclusion that the Quran is only an object of written text, but also appreciates the response and actions of society towards the presence of the Quran, so that the interpretation of the Quran is no longer elegiac, but emancipatory which invites community participation. To fully understand the discussions referred to above, it is very important to read this paper in its entirety.

Abstract

The concept of rizq (sustenance) is one of the fundamental themes in the Qur'an whose interpretation has evolved alongside the socio-historical and intellectual contexts of Qur'anic exegetes. Although numerous studies have examined the concept of sustenance from theological, thematic, and socio-economic perspectives, comparative research integrating classical and contemporary exegesis through Hans Robert Jauss's Reception Theory remains limited. This study aims to analyze the concept of rizq in the Qur'an through a comparative examination of Aṭ-Ṭabarī's Jāmi‘ al-Bayān and M. Quraish Shihab's Tafsir al-Miṣbāḥ, while exploring how the exegetes' horizons of expectation shape their interpretations. This research employs a qualitative library research method using descriptive-analytical and comparative approaches. Primary data were obtained from Jāmi‘ al-Bayān and Tafsir al-Miṣbāḥ, while secondary data were collected from relevant scholarly books and journal articles. The data were analyzed using Hans Robert Jauss's Reception Theory, particularly the concept of the horizon of expectations, to explain the dynamics of interpretation in both exegetical works. The findings reveal that Aṭ-Ṭabarī interprets sustenance within a normative-theological framework, emphasizing divine decree, adherence to Islamic law, and an eschatological orientation. In contrast, Quraish Shihab offers a more contextual interpretation by highlighting the relationship between divine providence, human endeavor, moral responsibility, and social ethics. These interpretive differences reflect the changing horizons of expectation shaped by the historical and intellectual contexts of each exegete. This study demonstrates that the Qur'anic concept of sustenance is dynamic and continuously reinterpreted while maintaining its essential theological foundation.

Abstract

Ignaz Goldziher's believed that hadiths did not genuinely originate from the Prophet. For him, hadiths largely reflected the political and social interests of early Muslim society during the first two centuries. This view later sparked a long debate between Western and Muslim scholars. Goldziher doubted the sanad system. He accused many hadiths of being engineered by those in power, including mass fabrication under the Umayyads. This paper reexamines Goldziher's arguments. The method used is a qualitative library study with a comparative-evaluative approach. The findings show that Goldziher's skepticism is methodologically weak. He focused too heavily on matn analysis while ignoring the sanad system that had already been documented since the time of the Companions. His accusation of mass fabrication by the Umayyads is also difficult to prove when we look at manuscript evidence from the first and second centuries AH. Thus, although Goldziher's critique has prompted healthy reflection in hadith studies, his broad generalizations cannot be accepted historically.

Abstract

This article explores the relationship between power and Qur’anic interpretation by examining Elmalılı Hamdi Yazır’s exegesis of polygamy verses in the Turkish context. It argues that interpretation is not purely intellectual but often intersects with political authority, functioning as a tool of legitimacy for state policies. This dynamic became especially visible during Turkey’s transition from the Ottoman Caliphate to the modern Republic, when religious interpretation was mobilized to support emerging political ideologies and national identity. This study employs a qualitative library research method, drawing on primary sources from Elmalılı’s works and relevant secondary literature. Using descriptive-analytical and historical-critical-contextual approaches, the research situates his interpretation within broader socio-political transformations. The findings reveal that Elmalılı’s interpretation of polygamy reflects a high degree of intellectual independence and was not shaped by direct state intervention. He emphasizes justice as the central condition for polygamy, framing it within ethical, social, and humanitarian considerations. Rather than prohibiting the practice outright, he underscores that it must adhere to principles of fairness and public welfare. For Elmalılı, polygamy is not an unrestricted right but a conditional practice bound by moral responsibility and the historical context of revelation.

Abstract

Feminism is a movement of women fighters who want equal rights and equal roles between men and women who are both God's creatures. History records that until now there are still many women who have not received their rights, and equality of roles between men and women has not been realized fairly. Muslim scholars and religious scholars consider feminism not a problem in Islam because in principle feminism has a close relationship with Islamic theology. Islam regulates the obligations and rights of men and women very fairly. Each has a function and role according to nature, there is no subordination between the two. This study aims to determine how Islam views the concept of feminism and gender equality. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by taking data from various library sources related to the concept of feminism and gender equality from an Islamic perspective. The findings of this study are that men and women have equal rights and equal roles.

Abstract

Character education is the main foundation in forming a young generation that is not only intellectually intelligent, but also has noble, tolerant, and wise morals amidst the currents of globalization and complex social problems. The Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW has great potential as a source of values and guidelines in building a tolerant and wise character, but its utilization has not been optimal. This study aims to examine and implement relevant hadiths to formulate an effective character education model. Through a literature study, this article discusses the relevance of hadiths in character education, especially the value of honesty (Ash-Shidq) which leads to goodness and heaven, as well as the character of tolerance and compassion (At-Tasamuh Wal Rahmah) which encourages empathy and creates an inclusive environment. In addition, the character of responsibility and trustworthiness, which emphasizes each individual as a leader of what they lead, is an important foundation. The implementation of ideal character education requires a holistic environment, an integrated curriculum, school-family-community collaboration, and the role of teachers as role models. However, challenges such as limited teacher understanding, academic pressure, negative environmental influences, and shifts in socio-cultural values often hinder effective implementation. Therefore, character education must be adaptive, balancing traditional and modern values, and requires collaborative support from various parties to create a generation with integrity, adaptability, and the ability to bring about positive change.

Abstract

This article explores Qur’anic exegesis in the Malay world with a focus on its definition, identity, and dynamic development. The study emphasizes that the exegetical tradition in the Malay region demonstrates distinctive characteristics compared to the Arab world and other Islamic regions. The identity of Malay Qur’anic exegesis is reflected in the use of local languages, social contexts, and scholarly approaches that combine both traditional and modern elements. Furthermore, this article examines exegetical efforts in Malay-speaking countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore, highlighting both continuity and divergence in methods, styles, and objectives of interpretation. By employing a comparative approach, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the Malay world’s contribution to the global heritage of Qur’anic exegesis, while also underlining the importance of local exegetical traditions as an integral part of the universal development of Islamic interpretation.
