Abstract

The development of the coffee business in Bagan Sinembah has experienced rapid growth in the last five years, from only a handful of shops such as Teras Kopi Clinix to hundreds of national outlets (Kopi dari Hati, JCO Coffee, Tomoro Coffee, Point Coffee) and local MSMEs (Dongan Coffee, Still Coffee, Teduh Coffee, etc.), as well as mobile coffee businesses (Ido Coffee, Roda Kopi, Gayo Espresso, etc.). This tight competition demands a superior strategy, where product quality and price are the main determinants of customer satisfaction, as stated by Eltantian et al. (2023) that satisfaction arises from expectations of product or service performance, and Maharani et al. (2025) who emphasize the role of service and price balance in consumer loyalty. This study analyzes the influence of product quality and price on customer satisfaction at Teras Kopi Clinix Bagan Sinembah, with the aim of identifying consumer preference factors, key factors for business sustainability, and business strategies for maintaining raw material quality and competitiveness. Through an in-depth analytical approach, the results are expected to provide recommendations for local coffee shop managers on maintaining customer loyalty amidst increasingly fierce competition.

Abstract

International coffee trade plays a strategic role in the global economy, yet it faces complex legal challenges related to market access, regulatory divergence, and sustainability standards. This study examines the effectiveness of international trade law frameworks in governing coffee commodity exports, with particular attention to developing countries such as Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, this research analyzes key legal instruments including World Trade Organization agreements, bilateral trade arrangements, and certification schemes such as fair trade and geographical indications. The findings reveal that while existing frameworks provide mechanisms for dispute resolution and market integration, significant gaps remain in protecting smallholder farmers and ensuring equitable value distribution. Furthermore, inconsistencies in non-tariff measures and sustainability requirements often create barriers to entry for exporters. The study proposes strengthening legal harmonization, enhancing institutional coordination, and integrating sustainability principles into binding trade regulations to support inclusive and resilient coffee trade systems globally. These reforms are essential to balance economic competitiveness with social justice and environmental protection in international coffee trade governance systems worldwide. Abstract

This study examines the importance of strengthening legal protection for Indonesian fisheries exports within the framework of international trade. As one of the world’s largest producers of marine resources, Indonesia holds significant potential in the global fisheries market. However, the competitiveness of its fisheries exports is often constrained by complex international regulations, including sanitary and phytosanitary standards, traceability requirements, and sustainability certifications imposed by importing countries. These regulatory challenges highlight the critical role of international trade law in shaping market access and export performance. This research adopts a normative juridical approach, analyzing international legal instruments, trade agreements, and national regulatory frameworks relevant to fisheries exports. The findings reveal that while existing legal frameworks provide opportunities for market expansion, gaps in regulatory alignment, enforcement mechanisms, and institutional capacity limit their effectiveness. Additionally, issues such as illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as environmental compliance, pose significant legal risks for Indonesian exporters. The study emphasizes the need for harmonization between domestic regulations and international standards, as well as the strengthening of institutional governance and compliance mechanisms. Enhancing legal protection is essential to ensure sustainable fisheries practices, improve export competitiveness, and secure Indonesia’s position in the global seafood market. Abstract

This study aims to examine glocalization strategies among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Batik Lumajang sector through the integration of adaptive innovation and the empowerment of diaspora networks. Amid increasingly intense global competition, MSME actors are required to adopt a global mindset to adapt to a dynamic cross-border business environment (Kossowska & Rosinski, 2020). Using a qualitative approach, this study analyzes how local cultural identity, embodied in distinctive motifs such as Pisang Agung and Kuda Kencak, is preserved as a unique resource advantage (Sumiati et al., 2024). Beyond cultural heritage, this research highlights the importance of global tools such as digital platforms in facilitating knowledge-sharing and consumer education in international markets (Hu et al., 2024). The utilization of diaspora networks is identified as a key strategy for overcoming the challenges of foreign markets through the leveraging of specific ecosystem advantages (Li et al., 2019). The presence of the diaspora offers strategic advantages due to their deep understanding of both the culture of the home country and the host country (Williams & Dvoulety, 2025). Research findings indicate that the success of market expansion heavily depends on the maturity of network competencies and mutual trust in digital interactions (Augustie et al., 2025; Wziatek-Stasko & Pobiedzinska, 2022). The implementation of open innovation through external collaboration has proven capable of accelerating internationalization efforts while strengthening business resilience (TanTai et al., 2024). The conclusion of this study affirms that the synergy between adaptive local wisdom and smart international support instruments creates a resilient and sustainable business model for SMEs on the global stage

Abstract

This study presents the design, fabrication, and performance analysis of a SolidWorks-based disk mill coffee grinder specifically developed for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia's expanding coffee industry. Addressing the technological gap between industrial-scale equipment and small-enterprise operational constraints, the research employed parametric 3D modeling and virtual assembly simulation to optimize machine configuration prior to physical fabrication. The design integrates a 5.5 HP gasoline engine with a 3:1 pulley reduction system, angle iron frame structure (600×600×730 mm), and adjustable pin-type grinding disks to achieve targeted processing capacity and particle uniformity. Performance testing demonstrated that the machine successfully processes 1 kg of roasted coffee beans in approximately 8 minutes, yielding a theoretical throughput of 30 kg/hour with consistent particle distribution suitable for various brewing methods. Material loss was maintained below 2%, while operational vibration and noise levels remained within acceptable limits for workshop environments. The SolidWorks-driven design methodology significantly reduced material waste and iterative physical modifications by enabling early detection of interference conflicts and spatial optimization during the digital prototyping phase. These findings confirm that CAD-integrated engineering approaches can effectively support the development of cost-effective, maintainable, and scalable processing equipment tailored to MSME requirements. The resulting disk mill configuration offers a practical solution for enhancing product consistency, operational efficiency, and competitive positioning within Indonesia's decentralized coffee value chain, while providing a replicable framework for localized agricultural machinery innovation.
