Abstract

This study investigated the effect of think-pair-share instructional strategy on secondary school students’ academic interest in Chemistry. It covered the topics; acids, bases and acid-base reactions. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The quasi-experimental design was adopted. The population of the study was 5,714 senior secondary school year one (SS1) Chemistry students in Awka Education zone in Anambra State. A sample of 192 SS 1 Chemistry students obtained using stratified and simple random sampling techniques was involved in the study. The instruments for data collection were Chemistry Achievement Test (CAT) and Chemistry Interest Scale (CIS) validated by experts. The reliability of the instruments were established using Kuder-Richardson Formula 20 for CAT which yielded coefficient of internal consistency of 0.81 and Cronbach Alpha for CIS with a reliability coefficient of 0.71. Data were collected by administering the instrument. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions; and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to test the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed that there was significant difference in the mean interest scores of the students taught Chemistry using think-pair-share instructional strategy and those taught using lecture method in favour of think-pair share instructional strategy. Moreso, there was no significant difference in the mean interest scores of male and female students taught Chemistry using think-pair-share instructional strategy. Based on the findings, recommendations were made that workshops and seminars should be organized by school heads to orient Chemistry teachers on how to effectively use think-pair-share instructional strategy in the teaching and learning of Chemistry. The study contributed to knowledge such that it has empirically proved and established that use of TPS improves students' interest in Chemistry surpassing lecture method. The study also revealed empirically that use of TPS in teaching Chemistry enhances male and female students’ interest

Abstract

This study aims to develop interactive learning media using the Classpoint application to improve the learning outcomes of fifth-graders in science lessons in elementary schools. The study employed a research and development (R&D) method with a 4D model. The resulting product is a media that can be used by both teachers and students, which contains various features, ranging from material to quizzes to train students' knowledge abilities. This media is run by teachers using laptops/computers and students can use it using their mobile phones without the need to download an application. The research design used is a non-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design by comparing learning outcomes before (pretest) and after using the Classpoint-assisted interactive learning media (posttest). The Classpoint-assisted interactive learning media has been validated by media experts with a percentage of 87.5%, material experts with 97.2%, and language experts with 95%, with an overall average of 91.5% and a category of "very feasible". From the results of the N-Gain calculation, a significant increase was obtained with an average N-Gain of 0.67 which is in the "moderate" category. Thus, it can be concluded that the Classpoint-assisted interactive learning media is effective in improving learning outcomes, especially for the Food Chain material for fifth-graders in elementary schools.

Abstract

A study has been conducted to evaluate the application of the Literacy Movement in shaping the character of students at MI Al Huda, Cirebon Regency. The focus of this research is on programs such as Qiraati, readlah, Tahfidz, and literacy zones. The purpose of this research is to understand the character education applied at MI Al Huda. The character applied can encourage all students to show empathy, care, and respect for each other. So character education is an activity that is carried out consciously and helps students know good things, have noble character, are full of affection, and are intelligent. The Literacy Movement in Schools is a social initiative that involves cooperation from various sectors. One way to achieve this is to create a reading habit in students for 15 minutes. The achievement targets of the literacy movement in schools can gradually improve skills achieved through appropriate activities in elementary schools that emphasize reading, listening, and writing skills. This study uses a qualitative method by collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the Literacy Movement, especially through the Literacy Movement program, is considered effective and receives support from the local community because being interested in these programs can help shape the positive character of students. The implementation of the Literacy Movement to shape the character of grade II students at MI Al Huda, Cirebon Regency has proven to be effective. Through this literacy program, students can develop a disciplined, responsible, independent, intelligent, and capable of respecting others, loving virtue, maintaining honesty, being polite, obeying rules, and obeying religious teachings. This research is expected to provide valuable information and input for the learning process in various institutions or schools, especially at MI Al Huda Cirebon Regency.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the implementation of Line Card Number media in improving the addition and subtraction abilities of elementary school students at MIS Dar Al Tauhid, Cirebon City. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data was collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, as well as analysis of documents related to the learning process using Line Card Number media. The research results show that the use of Line Card Number media helps students understand the concepts of addition and subtraction more easily and interactively. Teachers reported an increase in student participation during learning, as well as a decrease in errors in solving addition and subtraction problems. Students also stated that this media made them more interested and motivated in learning mathematics. The conclusion of this research is that the Line Card Number media is effective as a learning tool to increase students' understanding of addition and subtraction operations. This media not only makes the learning process more interesting but also helps students internalize basic mathematical concepts in a deeper and more enjoyable way.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the use of play money media in learning currency material in elementary schools. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach, using observation methods, in-depth interviews and documentation. The research subjects were teachers and students at an elementary school that had implemented play money as a medium in learning. The research results show that the use of play money can help students understand the concept of the value of money, transaction methods and simple financial management. This media also encourages active student interaction during learning and increases learning motivation. Apart from that, the teacher stated that the play money media made it easier to convey abstract material into a more concrete one. However, this research also found several challenges, such as limited time for preparation and use of media. The implication of this research is the need for support and training for teachers to integrate innovative learning media effectively.

Abstract

This research aims to increase elementary school students' understanding of natural disaster mitigation through the use of visual educational media. A qualitative approach was used in this research, with a research design in the form of a case study in one of the elementary schools in a disaster-prone area. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The visual educational media developed includes illustrations, animated videos, and infographics that explain types of natural disasters, mitigation steps, and self-saving measures. The research results show that the use of visual educational media significantly increases students' understanding of the concept of disaster mitigation, as seen from the increase in student participation in learning and their ability to explain mitigation steps independently. This research provides recommendations for developing more innovative and technology-based learning media to support disaster education in elementary schools.

Abstract

This research aims to understand how elementary school students view and behave towards air pollution around the school environment. Using a qualitative approach, this research involved in-depth interviews with students from several elementary schools in urban areas that are exposed to significant levels of air pollution. The data obtained was analyzed thematically to identify students' perceptions regarding the impact of air pollution on their health and the actions they consider necessary to reduce pollution. The research results show that most students have a basic understanding of air pollution, but their knowledge about its impact on health is still limited. Students' attitudes tend to be passive, although they show a desire to be involved in environmental conservation efforts through simple activities at school. This research provides important insights for the development of more effective educational programs to increase students' awareness of the importance of maintaining the air quality around them.
