Abstract

The concept of sustainable ESG performance in companies can have the opportunity to provide various competitive benefits and influence the development of good values. ESG performance can mitigate financial risk during the financial crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic and reduce portfolio risk. In addition, companies that invest in ESG show that the company carries out ethical investment practices and can increase returns (Broadstock et al., 2021), thereby influencing the sustainability of the company and investors. This research aims to examine the influence of Sustainable Finance, Green Innovation, CEOs with foreign experience and the interaction of Sustainable finance and Green Innovation with CEOs on ESG performance using the control variables firm size and company age. The panel regression model is used because the data structure used is a combination of time series data and cross section data. The samples used in this research are companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2018 - 2021 for 2 types of industry, namely the banking sector and the development sector. The sampling technique used was purportive sampling. Based on the specified criteria, 22 mining companies and 34 banking companies were selected so that the total sample used in this research was 224 samples. The results of this research show that both the overall and partial tests of Sustainability Finance (SF) have proven to have a positive effect on ESG performance. Meanwhile, overall green finance has been proven to have no effect on ESG performance, but partially green innovation banking companies have proven to have a positive effect on ESG performance. CEOs with foreign experience have proven unable to moderate the influence of sustainable finance and green innovation on ESG performance. This research contributes to academic and practical literature related to efforts to achieve ESG performance.

Abstract

Corruption is an extraordinary crime that has an extraordinary impact, so various sanctions are applied to reduce the rate of corruption. The main purpose of law is to provide justice and benefits to society. The death penalty and confiscation of assets are legal instruments introduced by the state to overcome criminal acts of corruption. Even though Indonesia was ranked fifth as the most corrupt country in Asia in 2022 according to Transparency International, the death penalty is also applied in the context of corruption cases that are considered massive. The threat of the death penalty is regulated in Article 2 paragraph (2) of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Corruption Crimes, which permits the application of the death penalty under certain conditions. However, in practice, no corruptor has yet been sentenced to death, even though they meet these qualifications. In contrast, asset confiscation focuses more on returning state finances related to confiscating the assets of perpetrators of criminal acts of corruption, so that they cannot enjoy the proceeds of corruption after leaving prison. The Bill on Criminal Asset Confiscation was proposed as an additional step to prevent criminal acts of corruption and is expected to be passed soon. The return of assets originating from criminal acts of corruption must be based on the principles of social justice, with the state and legal system responsible for ensuring the welfare of individuals or society. In the context of criminal acts of corruption that harm the state's ability to carry out its duties, the state is expected to demand recovery for wealth taken unlawfully. The application of the death penalty for perpetrators of corruption is based on the principle that severe punishment can effectively reduce the opportunities for this behavior to occur. However, it is important to remember that the severity of the punishment is not the only determining factor in the success of implementing the punishment.

Abstract

This research investigates the interaction between the phenomenon of groupthink, leadership, and the level of cohesiveness in the context of group decision making. Groupthink, as a potential risk in groups, can affect the quality of decisions by inhibiting openness to alternative thinking. Meanwhile, effective leadership and a healthy level of cohesiveness are considered to improve the quality of decisions. This research analyzes the impact of these variables in various contexts, such as organizations, work teams, or study groups. Through a literature review and empirical analysis, researchers identify practices that can support managing groupthink, promote effective leadership, and build positive cohesiveness. Awareness of the dynamics of interactions between these variables allows designing better strategies to improve the quality of group decision making. This research highlights the importance of contextual and strategic approaches in understanding the impact of groupthink, leadership, and cohesiveness on decision quality. The results provide insights for practitioners, organizational leaders, and researchers to understand how to optimally utilize the interaction of these variables to support effective and quality decision making in various group contexts.

Abstract

Internet use is an indicator of sustainable economic development. The internet has become an important tool for people to obtain the information they need. Internet use has increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Increased internet use should encourage increased demand for hardware and software. Indirectly, this can encourage sales growth and company performance that supports the implementation of information technology. This research examines the association between company profitability and the market performance of technology sector companies on the Stock Exchanges of 6 ASEAN member countries. Data is obtained through the stock exchanges of each country as well as through other data sources. The research year in the analysis is divided into 2 periods, 2017-2019 and 2020-2021, and is treated as an independent variable along with profitability. The dependent variable is company performance. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The test results show that profitability as measured using Return on Assets (ROA) has a positive effect on company performance. Firm performance in this study is measured by abnormal return (AR). This research also analyzes AR in the period before and after the Covid-19 pandemic. The test results show that AR in the period before the Covid-19 pandemic was lower than in the period after or during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research replicates previous research regarding the influence of profitability on company performance but adds the dichotomous variable year (dyear) and the form or system of government in the country being observed (dform).
