Abstract

Background: Adolescent girls experience biological changes in the form of menstruation, which is often accompanied by dysmenorrhea and anxiety. One non-pharmacological approach to reducing dysmenorrhea and anxiety in adolescent girls is acupressure on the SP 6 point. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure on the SP 6 point on reducing dysmenorrhea and anxiety in adolescent girls. Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest–posttest control group design involving 30 adolescents, with 15 participants in each group selected through purposive sampling. Acupressure was administered three times for 30–60 seconds at 1-hour intervals. Dysmenorrhea and anxiety were assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) instruments, respectively. Data were analyzed using paired sample and independent sample t-tests. Results: The results showed a decrease in dysmenorrhea from 5.20 to 2.33 and a decrease in anxiety from 10.33 to 2.33 after the SP 6 acupressure technique was administered. There was an effect of acupressure on SP 6 points on the reduction of dysmenorrhea and anxiety in adolescent girls, and there is a difference in dysmenorrhea and anxiety with a p-value <0.001 (<0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that acupressure on the SP6 point has the potential to be an effective non-pharmacological intervention in reducing dysmenorrhea and anxiety in adolescent girls and can serve as a basis for further research on adolescent reproductive health management.

Abstract

Background: Service quality is an important indicator in evaluating hospital performance and determining patient satisfaction. The increasing number of inpatient admissions at Kendari City Regional General Hospital (RSUD Kota Kendari) is not always accompanied by an increase in facility capacity and healthcare personnel, which may affect service quality and patient satisfaction. Therefore, an evaluation of service quality based on the SERVQUAL model is necessary to identify the factors that most strongly influence inpatient satisfaction. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the influence of SERVQUAL dimensions, tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy on service quality and their impact on inpatient satisfaction at RSUD Kota Kendari. Methods: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach conducted from May to June 2025 at RSUD Kota Kendari. A total of 233 inpatients were selected from a population of 554 patients using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a SERVQUAL-based questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS software. Results: All SERVQUAL dimensions had a positive and significant effect on service quality and patient satisfaction. The empathy dimension showed the most dominant influence (f² = 1.940), while service quality had a significant effect on patient satisfaction with a path coefficient of 0.677. Conclusion: Improving hospital service quality should emphasize the empathy of healthcare professionals, as positive interpersonal interactions are a key factor in enhancing inpatient satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most common microvascular complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and is closely related to changes in lipid profile. Objective: This study aimed to assess whether a significant relationship exists between lipid profile parameters and diabetic nephropathy among patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study used an observational analytical design with a retrospective cross-sectional approach involving 136 patients undergoing treatment at North City Health Centre, Gorontalo City, from September to December 2024. Lipid profile and nephropathy status data were collected through medical records, while statistical analysis included Mann–Whitney, Chi–Square, and Spearman's correlation tests. Results: The results showed significant differences in total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and the total cholesterol/HDL ratio between the groups with and without diabetic nephropathy (p< 0.05), whereas HDL did not differ significantly. Spearman's correlation test showed that total cholesterol (r= 0.399), LDL (r= 0.300), triglycerides (r= 0.291), and the total cholesterol/HDL ratio (r= 0.316) were positively associated with nephropathy level, whereas HDL showed a non-significant negative correlation. Conclusion: These findings confirm that dyslipidaemia plays an essential role in the development of diabetic nephropathy and can be used as a clinical indicator for early detection. Monitoring and controlling lipid profiles is expected to help slow the progression of kidney damage in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Excessive fat accumulation resulting from an imbalance between caloric intake and energy expenditure is the hallmark of obesity. The growing prevalence of obesity-associated T2DM has been attributed to changes in lifestyle patterns, sedentary behavior, and elevated anthropometric indicators, particularly BMI and waist circumference. Objective: This study aimed to analyze BMI and waist circumference among obese individuals with T2DM at Hamadi Health Center, Jayapura City. Methods: A case-control study was conducted involving 92 participants, consisting of 46 obese individuals with T2DM and 46 obese individuals without T2DM. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test for normally distributed variables and the Mann–Whitney test for non-normally distributed variables. Results: Significant differences were observed between the case and control groups in height (p=0.001), diastolic blood pressure (p=0.005), glucose level (p<0.001), triglycerides (p<0.001), HDL cholesterol (p=0.007), and insulin level (p<0.001). Conclusion: Obese individuals with T2DM exhibited significantly different metabolic and clinical profiles compared with obese individuals without diabetes. These findings emphasize the importance of metabolic monitoring and early risk assessment among obese populations.
