Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Digital Public Relations (Digital PR) strategy implemented by the local community Pokdarwis Tumpak Sewu in restoring the tourism image of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall in Lumajang after a decline in visitor numbers. The main problem identified was the loss of public trust due to safety concerns and the lack of consistent digital promotion. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, field observations, and social media documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the Digital PR strategy conducted by the community followed four stages proposed by (Cutlip & Broom, 2006): fact-finding, planning and programming, taking action and communicating, and evaluation. Through this strategy, the community successfully rebuilt the destination’s image by sharing positive messages, maintaining two-way communication with visitors, and increasing both digital engagement and tourist visits. The study concludes that community based Digital PR is effective in restoring tourism image and serves as a sustainable communication model for local tourism development.

Abstract

The 1965–1966 mass killings stand as one of the darkest chapters in Indonesian history, leaving deep trauma and ongoing controversies within the state’s official narrative. The documentary The Act of Killing reopens public space to examine how perpetrators represent themselves and how historical memory is constructed. This study aims to analyze the representation of the 1965–1966 violence in The Act of Killing and its impact on collective memory construction and historical justice discourse in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative approach using film analysis as the primary method, focusing on narrative, visual, and performative elements of key scenes. In addition, a literature review of recent academic journals and historical documents was conducted to strengthen interpretation. The analysis is further supported by perspectives from memory studies and transitional justice. The findings reveal that The Act of Killing exposes the normalization of violence through the perpetrators’ perspective while simultaneously raising ethical concerns about the absence of victims’ narratives in the state’s official memory. The film serves as an alternative medium that intervenes in public and academic discourse on the 1965–1966 tragedy. The study also highlights the potential of documentary films as tools for critical history education in Indonesia. The Act of Killing significantly contributes to reopening public debate on the 1965–1966 mass killings. This study is significant as it demonstrates how visual media can serve as an instrument of collective memory and a means of reflecting on the pursuit of historical justice in Indonesia.

Abstract

The documentary “Jejak Rasa, Ruang Hidup” explores the interconnection between urban spaces and the traces of taste embedded in emotions, memories, and community identity, with Surya Kencana, Bogor, chosen as a representative public space. Through a soft news approach, this work emphasizes narrative strength, atmosphere, and emotional experiences emerging from culinary traditions and intergenerational social interactions. Within the production process, the role of the camera person is crucial in capturing visuals that convey the cultural values and atmosphere of the area. The camera person does not merely operate as a technical image recorder, but also as an active observer, sensitive to moments, rhythms of activity, and human expressions within the public space. The main tasks of a camera person include selecting appropriate angles, compositions, and camera movements to support the documentary’s narrative. The use of varied shots such as wide shots to depict spatial context, medium shots to highlight social interactions, and close-ups to capture emotional expressions serves as a visual strategy to strengthen the connection between urban space and collective identity. Furthermore, the camera person is responsible for maintaining visual continuity to ensure that the footage aligns with the editor’s needs in shaping a reflective and immersive storyline. The final outcome of the documentary demonstrates that collaboration between narrative, visuals, and audio creates a viewing experience that is both factual and emotionally engaging. Thus, the role of the camera person is proven to extend beyond technical operation, functioning as a creative contributor significantly shaping the documentary’s communicative success.
