Abstract

Stress is a psychological challenge that affects an individual's mental health, making effective management strategies necessary. This research aims to examine the role of faith and religious practices in managing stress. The research method used is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from national journals, scientific articles, and relevant Islamic literature, with sources selected based on recency and relevance. The results indicate that faith and religious practices such as prayer (salat), supplication, remembrance (dhikr), patience, and sincerity play a role in cultivating inner peace, strengthening psychological resilience, and helping individuals face life's pressures more adaptively. These findings affirm that Islamic psychology offers a comprehensive stress management strategy, covering cognitive, emotional, and spiritual aspects, making it relevant for application in supporting the mental health of students and society at large.

Abstract

The increasing number of broken home cases among adolescents has become an urgent social issue due to its serious impact on mental health and academic learning. This study aims to describe the effects of a broken home condition on the mental well-being and learning process of a female adolescent in Makassar, using a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation involving a high school student whose parents are separated, as well as supporting informants including a guidance counselor and a close friend. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis consisting of data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and validation through member checking and source triangulation. The findings indicate four major results: (1) the broken home situation triggers emotional distress such as anxiety, deep sadness, loss of motivation, and behavioral changes; (2) cognitive functions such as concentration and memory are disrupted, which negatively affects academic achievement; (3) social withdrawal and difficulty building interactions at school emerge as adaptive responses; and (4) social support from teachers, peers, and school counselors plays a crucial role in emotional recovery. The study concludes that the broken home condition significantly influences adolescents’ mental health and learning process, with implications for schools to strengthen responsive counseling services and enhance collaboration with parents to ensure continuous support. Abstract

The phenomenon of paternal absence (fatherlessness) has become a serious global issue, particularly in Indonesia, which ranks third worldwide in fatherlessness rates. This research aims to examine comprehensively how the absence of a father figure, whether physical or psychological, affects children's personality development and emotional well-being. The methodology employed is a systematic literature review (SLR) with PRISMA analysis, examining 200 articles from Google Scholar published within the last five years in the Indonesian language. Following the screening process, 8 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria for analysis. The research findings demonstrate that paternal absence has significant impacts on children's personality and emotional development, including difficulties in emotion regulation, establishing healthy social relationships, low self-confidence, and increased risk of experiencing anxiety, depression, and aggressive behavior. Boys experiencing fatherlessness tend to exhibit aggressive and rebellious behavior, while girls are more vulnerable to confidence issues and emotional dependence. Conversely, active paternal involvement in child-rearing is proven to enhance social competence, emotional control, academic achievement, and overall personality stability in children. This research is expected to contribute to the development of family psychology knowledge and serve as a foundation for social intervention strategies and more effective family policies in supporting child welfare.
