Abstract

Community participation is an opportunity for residents to participate effectively in managing Tirta tourism. Tirta Kapalo Banda Tourism is managed by the community, which acts as tourism managers and business owners around Kapalo Banda's irrigation waters and forests in Nagari Taram. This study aims to describe the stages of participation, analyze the level of participation, and find out the supporting and inhibiting factors of community participation in the development of Tirta Kapalo Banda Tourism. The method used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The informants in this study were determined purposively, namely representatives of the Taram Nagari Government, tourism managers, and business owners. The data analysis used is Miles and Huberman analysis, which starts from data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the participation stage of the Nagari Taram community was involved in all stages, starting from the decision-making stage, the implementation stage, the benefit-taking stage, and the evaluation stage. The degree of participation of the Nagari Taram community is in the tokenism degree category. Supporting factors for community participation are motivational factors, funds and personal assets, opportunities, training, and socialization, and inhibiting factors for community participation are weather factors and natural disasters, rules for becoming tourism managers, other jobs, and negative influences from outside.

Abstract

The potential for developing marine tourism in Sikabau Beach focuses on integration with the local salted fish processing industry and the importance of synergy between the two sectors, considering that Jorong Sikabau has stunning natural beauty and maritime traditions, including salted fish processing that has been passed down from generation to generation. However, the salted fish processing industry still faces challenges, such as limited market access, lack of technical knowledge, and inadequate infrastructure. This study aims to describe the tourism picture and characteristics of salted fish processors and analyze the empowerment of salted fish processors. The method used in this study is a case study method using a qualitative approach. The selection of informants in this study was purposive. The data analysis used was qualitative, starting from data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The study results showed that the characteristics of Sikabau Beach marine tourism are mangrove forest tourism, Batu Kajang, and the estuary of Sikabau Beach. The attributes of salted fish processing businesses are that they still carry out the processing process traditionally. The empowerment carried out for salted fish processors is training in processing fish-based products and their marketing, fish packaging, and how to reproduce good processed food. The programs that have not been implemented are business strengthening and strengthening the added value of products. Therefore, there needs to be support from the government that focuses more on skills training for salted fish processors and the development of adequate infrastructure for salted fish processors.

Abstract

Essential fatty acids play a crucial role in fish growth and health. A quality feed containing the right amount of fats can promote fish growth and support metabolic functions. Fatty acid requirements vary depending on the fish species and habitat, with freshwater fish tending to require more n-6 fatty acids, while marine fish require more n-3 fatty acids. The use of fat in feed should be well regulated, as too high levels can interfere with the digestive and metabolic processes of the fish. The use of fish oil mixed in feed as much as 1.5% can help improve the growth performance of carp. Magot oil mixed into the feed as much as 15%/100 g gives the best growth performance in carp. Soybean oil used as much as 10% in feed can increase the content of omega 3, EPA, and DHA in catfish meat. Coconut oil used in feed at 6% proved to have a good impact on the DHA content of tilapia. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on the role and function of fatty acids in fish growth.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the type and abundance of microplastics in the digestive tract of Clupeichthys goniognathus in the Koto Panjang Reservoir. This research was carried out from December 2023 – February 2024 in West Koto Tuo Village. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling from the catch by fishermen. Sample analysis and microplastic identification were conducted at the Waste Processing Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Riau. The research results show that the microplastics identified in the digestive tract of C. goniognathus are fiber, film, and fragment types. The most common type found was film-type microplastics with an abundance of 35% or 119 particles.

Abstract

Danau Panjang is a natural lake located in Lubuk Siam Village. The variety of activities in Danau Panjang can affect phytoplankton biodiversity. Phytoplankton is an important factor for the life of fish and all kinds of biota that live in water as primary producers. The presence of phytoplankton will determine the quality and condition of a body of water. Danau Panjang, as one of the oxbow lakes, currently rarely has any additional discharge from the main river, so it is feared that phytoplankton diversity will be low. This study aims to determine the type and abundance of phytoplankton and phytoplankton biodiversity and the results of the analysis of environmental factors on phytoplankton biodiversity in Danau Panjang. Phytoplankton biodiversity and water quality parameters consisting of temperature, brightness, depth, pH, CO2, DO, nitrate, and phosphate were observed in September-October 2023. Phytoplankton samples and water quality measurements were taken at three sampling points, three times with an interval of two weeks. Phytoplankton abundance ranged from 2383-7098 cells/L, and 10 phytoplankton classes were found. Phytoplankton biodiversity in Danau Panjang illustrates a relatively stable condition. The species richness index in Weeks 1, 2, and 3 ranged from 3.51-5.52 in the good category. The diversity index in Weeks 1, 2, and 3 ranged from 2.06-3.82, with a high level of diversity. The dominance index in Weeks 1, 2, and 3 ranged from 0.12-0.38, indicating that there was no dominant species. The uniformity index in Weeks 1, 2, and 3 ranged from 0.39-0.69, where uniformity was in balance. In general, the water quality in Weeks 1, 2, and 3 is not much different and is favorable for phytoplankton growth when viewed from the quality standards of class III of PP No. 22 of 2021.

Abstract

Artificial Lake is one of the lakes located in Lembah Sari Village, Rumbai Pesisir District, which was expanded into East Rumbai District on December 30, 2020, with an area of ​​166.40 ha. The various activities in the artificial lake cause a decrease in water quality due to the input of waste dumped into the lake, thus impacting the ecological condition of the biota, one of which is macrozoobenthos. This research aims to determine the environmental status of bottom waters using macrozoobenthos. This research was carried out in July-August 2023 at three stations. The abundance of macrozoobenthos ranges from 115-465 ind/m3, with the species consisting of 2 classes (Gastropoda and Oligochaeta) divided into four families. Generally, the macrozoobenthos found are the Oligochaeta, tolerant class, and the Gastropoda, facultative class. The diversity index for Stations I, II, and III ranges from 1.010 to 1.224, with a medium level of diversity. The ecological quality of the waters in the Artificial Lake based on the ABC Curve method for Stations I, II, and III showed that the seas were lightly polluted. In general, the water quality at Stations I, II, and III is not much different, where the parameters of temperature, brightness, depth, TSS, pH, and DO are still by class II quality standards PP No. 22 of 2021, but the BOD content is high. High BOD values ​​indicate the amount of organic material at each station.

Abstract

Fisheries resource management based on local wisdom is passed down through generations, addressing significant challenges like over-exploitation. Teluk Paman Timur Village exemplifies this with its ‘Lubuk Larangan’ model, where specific river areas are designated for fishing prohibition, enforced by the community. This research examines the environmental conditions of water's physical-chemical parameters, the economic and social benefits of ‘Lubuk Larangan,’ and the current fisheries management status in the village. Using qualitative descriptive methods, data was gathered through observations, interviews, and water quality measurements. Results indicate that the ‘lubuk larangan’ system in Teluk Paman Timur is actively maintained. Management falls under the auspices of Ninik Mamak, POKMASWAS, and BPD, benefiting from community support. Economically, ‘Lubuk Larangan’ meets local consumption needs while providing additional income opportunities. Socially, it facilitates gatherings, cooperation, and activities during harvest seasons. Water conditions within ‘Lubuk Larangan’ are favorable, as evidenced by quality parameters like dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH, clarity, current speed, depth, and TDS, which comply with class 2 water quality standards vital for sustaining fishery resources and aquatic life. This governance model, therefore, enhances both ecological health and community resilience, ensuring sustainable fisheries management

Abstract

Fishery product processing is one of the agribusiness subsystems with excellent opportunities to increase fishery product yields. Poklahsar is a fishery product processing and marketing group. The products produced are barracuda/tete fish dim sum and shrimp dim sum. This research aims to analyze the amount of investment and profits in the fishery product processing business in Poklahsar Kita Bisa and the feasibility of the fishery product processing business in Poklahsar Kita Bisa. The method used is the case study method. The number of respondents used as the object of this research was 10 people, which was considered sufficient to obtain business analysis research data. The types of data collected include primary data and secondary data. This data was obtained from direct interviews using questionnaires and literature. The research results are as follows: 1) The total investment in the fishery product processing business was IDR 15,385,000, obtained from a fixed capital of IDR 12,737,000. Working capital IDR 2,648,000. 2) The total cost of the fishery product processing business is IDR 31.645.000, obtained from fixed costs of IDR 12.205.000 and variable costs of IDR 19.440.000. 3) Revenue from fishery product processing businesses amounting to IDR 52.800.000. 4) Revenue from the fishery product processing business is IDR 21.115.000. 5) Return Cost of Ratio (RCR) obtained a value of 1,66, Financial Rate of Return (FRR) of 137.24%, and the Payback Period of Capital (PPC) analysis obtained a result of 0.72, meaning it takes 7 months. So, based on the feasibility analysis, the fishery product dim sum business is based on existing provisions/criteria, and it can be concluded that this business is profitable and feasible to run.

Abstract

Fish feed is critical to the success of aquaculture as it fulfills nutritional needs, promotes growth, and improves fish health. Several feed forms are used routinely, such as flake, pellet, and cake, each with its characteristics and applications, depending on the fish species and growth stage. Flake feed is a good choice for ornamental fish and small fish that consume on the surface or in the water column because it allows it to float longer on the water surface, making it easier for small fish to consume. Cake-shaped feed is soft, denser, and has a distinctive cake aroma. Cake-shaped feed is usually used for larval-stage fish species with small mouth openings. In addition, pelleted feed, available in various sizes and densities, is becoming more popular in consumer fish farming because it is easy to apply and can meet balanced nutritional needs, especially for sizeable juvenile fish. Pellets can be adjusted to match the water density for fish feeding at the water's top, column, or bottom. Therefore, it is crucial to know the forms of feed and their uses so that farmers can choose the optimal feed for their fish by understanding the characteristics and applications of each type of feed.

Abstract

The Air Bangis fish landing base is the only fish landing base in Sungai Beremas District, Pasan Barat Regency, and is classified as a type D fishing port. The imbalance between dense fishing activities and limited available facilities results in suboptimal fishing activities. This research was conducted using a survey method in May-June 2024 at the UPTD Regional II Air Bangis Fishing Port, West Sumatra Province. Data analysis used facility needs analysis and facility utilization level analysis. The facilities available at the Air Bangis Fish Landing Base consist of basic, functional, and supporting facilities. Of the 17 existing facilities, four whose utilization levels were analyzed were facilities that significantly influenced capture fisheries activities and were considered suboptimal in supporting dense fishing activities, namely land, docks, depth and area of ​​port ponds, and TPI. The level of facility utilization obtained a value ranging from 17 to 61%, consisting of 2 facilities that have a level of utilization exceeding the capacity of the available facilities so that they are included in the category of not optimal, namely the dock and harbor pool. In contrast, the TPI's utilization level does not exceed the available capacity; facilities that are not used are the ice factory, cold storage, and fuel tanks.
