Abstract

Aquaponics is a sustainable aquaculture technology that integrates a recirculation aquaculture system with plant cultivation in one system. The aquaponic system can be a solution that can be used as an intensive fish farming system and increase fish farming production. However, intensive cultivation will cause dissolved oxygen concentration to decrease rapidly. It will affect the water's quality, so an aeration system is needed to maintain the balance of dissolved oxygen in the water. The difference in the use of aeration systems in aquaponic systems will certainly provide different water quality results. So, this study aims to determine the type of aeration system most effective for cultivation activities in the aquaponic system. The method used in this study is a descriptive exploration of various literature and research results that have been published, both from books, national journals, and international journals. Based on a comparison of the results of previous studies, it can be concluded that aeration technology with microbubble sizes such as MNB and FBs can increase oxygen higher and more stable than conventional and venturi aeration technologies. The application of MNB and FBs aeration technology can produce water quality with dissolved oxygen concentration >7 mg/L, reduce ammonia concentration to <0.01 mg/L, nitrate concentration to <0.6 mg/L, and phosphate concentration <0.3 mg/L, as well as reducing total solids to 16% and volatile solids to 32%.

Abstract

This study was conducted in January 2023 at the Bungus Ocean Fishing Port to determine the achievements of operational performance and problems faced by operational activities and to what extent the Bungus PPS has implemented the level of operational performance of the Bungus Ocean Fishing Port over the past five years. The survey method was used in this study. The evaluation of operational performance at PPS Bungus is based on Kep-DJPT no 20/KEP-DJPT/2015, which contains four parameters and 28 sub-parameters. The results showed that operational performance's success value had run very well from 2017 to 2021, with values ranging from 86.75 to 89. However, several subparameters have low values: fisheries production, fishery product processing services at WKOPP, port land use (according to the master plan), and labor absorption. The value of fishermen's satisfaction with PPS Bungus' operational services in 2023 is 91.76%, which means it is perfect.

Abstract

This study investigates the distribution of suspended sediments and the dynamics of mangrove forest areas in the Citarum River Estuary, Muara Gembong District, Bekasi Regency, over three observation periods: 2018, 2021, and 2024. The research employs a survey method with an associative approach. Suspended sediment samples were collected using a simple random sampling technique at eight designated locations within the estuary. The analysis of suspended sediment distribution utilized Sentinel-2A satellite imagery, with the Wirasatriya algorithm identified as the most effective for this purpose. The findings indicate an increase in the total area of suspended sediments over time, measuring 1,134.92 hectares in 2018, 1,244.74 hectares in 2021, and 1,254.38 hectares in 2024. Additionally, there was a notable shift in sediment concentration patterns, with low-concentration sediments (63.19%) dominating in 2018, while medium concentrations (100–220 mg/L) became more prevalent in 2021 (43.90%) and 2024 (47.65%). Mangrove forest areas were classified using a supervised classification method integrated with the random forest algorithm. The results revealed a continuous increase in mangrove forest cover during the study period, with a 20.01% expansion between 2018 and 2021, followed by an additional 30.65% growth from 2021 to 2024. Correlation analysis demonstrated a strong association between suspended sediment distribution and changes in mangrove forest area, with a correlation coefficient of 0.814 and a determination coefficient of 0.662. These findings highlight the interconnected dynamics of sediment distribution and mangrove forest development in the estuarine environment.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the utilization status of silver rasbora (Rasbora argyrotaenia) in the Kampar Kiri River, Lipat Kain Village. This research was conducted in March-May 2024 in Sungai Kampar Kiri, Lipat Kain Village, Kampar Kiri Sub District. This research was carried out using a survey method to obtain primary data from measurements of fish caught. Fish sampling is carried out once a month for 3 months by seeing them directly in the Kampar Kiri River with the help of fishermen. The fish samples caught are put into a cool box and preserved using ice cubes. Then, they are taken to the laboratory to measure their length and weight for analysis using Microsoft Excel, FISAT II, and LB-SPR. This research obtained an SPR value for monitored fish of 83% or 0.83. The SPR value of this monitoring fish is still above the standard SPR limit (30% / 0.3). So, the status of silver rasbora utilization in the Kampar Kiri River is included in the under-exploited category.

Abstract

The utilization of fisheries resources in Teluk Paman Timur Village is closely related to local customs. The rule of lubuk larangan limits the community's activities, where the community is prohibited from fishing until a specific time limit. However, changes in river flow have led to sedimentation and siltation, which affects the effectiveness of this lubuk larangan. This study aimed to assess the status of fisheries resources in Lubuk Larangan Teluk Paman Timur, Kampar Kiri District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, using an ecosystem approach (EAFM). This research was conducted in March-May 2024 in the Lubuk Larangan Teluk Paman Timur area. The methods used in this research are qualitative and quantitative, and respondents were selected through purposive sampling with 15 people. The indicator development model used in this study refers to indicators compiled by the Directorate of Fish Resources. Indicators for each domain were converted into composite indicators through the “flag modelling” technique. Based on the analysis, the flag status for each domain in the Lubuk Larangan area of East Uncle Bay ranges from red to green. Domains with green flags include social, governance, and stakeholders. Domains with red flags are economic. Overall, the status of fisheries resource utilization in the Lubuk Larangan Teluk Paman Timur area received a yellow flag with a score of 20,359. This indicates that fisheries management in the local ecosystem has applied the principles of sustainable fisheries but is not yet optimal. Hence, a strategic plan needs to be established to optimize or improve the condition of existing domains and indicators.

Abstract

Comet fish (Carassius auratus auratus) is one type of freshwater ornamental fish that is highly demanded by the ornamental fish hobbyist community because it has a variety of colors and attractive physical forms. However, comet fish cultivation has decreased due to disease attacks that lead to death caused by Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria. Therefore, farmers generally use chemical drugs such as antibiotics to treat diseases in comet fish, yet for antibiotics, and it is necessary to research herbal medicines that contain antibacterial content, such as turmeric (Curcuma domestica). This research aims to determine the effect of immersion time using turmeric extract solution for treatment and survival rate of comet fish seeds infected with A.hydrophila bacteria. This is experimental research with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments and three replicates, namely treatment A (control), B (50 minutes immersion), C (60 minutes immersion), and D (70 minutes immersion). The results showed that using turmeric extract affected treating comet fish seeds infected with A.hydrophila bacteria. As for the survival rate, the results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the use of turmeric extract had no significant effect, with the percentage value of the survival rate of comet fish seeds of treatment A (63.30%), B (90.00%), C (80.00%), and D (86.60%).

Abstract

Sungai Selari Village is an area in Riau Province that features a high density of water activities, including a port where many fishing boats are moored and also serves as a transportation route for fishermen seeking fish. This activity can cause water pollution, which leads to the silting of waters through sedimentation. The activity of sediment input into a body of water can cause changes in the ecosystem, including alterations in sediment texture, organic matter content, and the abundance of macrozoobenthos biota. One organism that can be affected by differences in ecosystems is the macrozoobenthos due to its sedentary nature. This study aims to determine the type of sediment, grain size, and organic matter content, as well as their relationship with macrozoobenthos abundance. This research was conducted in March and April 2023, utilizing purposive sampling techniques at four stations in total. The samples taken were sedimentary substrates and macrozoobenthos. The results indicated that the size of the dominating sediment stalk, specifically the mud fraction, ranged from 14.72% to 71.25%. The types of macrozoobenthos found are grouped into two classes, namely Gastropods and bivalves. Individual abundances range from 0.3 - 4.4 ind/m2, with the highest abundance occurring at station 4 and the lowest occurring at station 1. The organic matter content ranges from 9.27- 34.2%. The relationship between organic matter content and macrozoobenthos abundance exhibits a moderate correlation of 0.506. The relationship between sediment grain size and macrozoobenthos abundance shows a fairly close correlation of 0.544
