Abstract

Mental disorders are conditions characterized by changes in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that interfere with a person’s ability to function in daily life. One of the main issues commonly found in patients with mental disorders is non-adherence to medication, which can lead to relapse and decreased quality of life. This study aims to determine the effect of therapeutic communication based on Peplau’s theory on medication adherence among patients with mental disorders. This research used a case study method with a qualitative approach involving two patients at Soeprapto Mental Hospital, Bengkulu Province. Data were collected through interviews and observations of the implementation of therapeutic communication performed by nurses over a two-day intervention period. The results of the study showed that both patients experienced improved understanding and increased medication adherence after the therapeutic communication intervention. It can be concluded that the application of therapeutic communication based on Peplau’s theory is effective in improving medication adherence among mental disorder patients through interpersonal relationships, education, and emotional support provided by nurses.

Abstract

Triage is one of the essential procedures in the Emergency Department (ED) that aims to determine patient care priorities based on the level of emergency. Nurses’ knowledge is one of the key factors influencing the accuracy of triage implementation according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge and their ability to perform triage in the Emergency Department of M. Yunus Bengkulu Hospital. This study employed a cross-sectional design with a total sampling technique involving 30 nurse respondents. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and a triage skill observation sheet, and analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The univariate analysis showed that most respondents had good knowledge (73.3%), adequate knowledge (16.7%), and poor knowledge (10.0%). In terms of triage ability, the majority were in the SOP-compliant category (86.7%), while the rest were non-compliant (13.3%). The bivariate analysis revealed a χ² value of 9.047 with a p-value of 0.011, indicating a statistically significant relationship between nurses’ knowledge and their ability to perform triage in the Emergency Department of M. Yunus Bengkulu Hospital. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between the level of nurses’ knowledge and their ability to perform triage. The higher the level of nurses’ knowledge, the greater the likelihood that triage will be carried out in accordance with the SOP.

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication that can continue into the postpartum period and has the potential to cause serious organ disorders and increase the risk of maternal death. This condition can cause various complications, including seizures, impaired liver function and blood clotting, cerebral hemorrhage, fluid buildup in the lungs, and heart disease. One important effort in preventing these complications is regular blood pressure monitoring to ensure the effectiveness of antihypertensive therapy and hemodynamic stability. This case study aims to analyze the application of blood pressure monitoring every 4 hours in postpartum mothers with severe preeclampsia as an effort to detect complications early. This case study uses a descriptive approach with a single case study method on Mrs. N, 21 years old, postpartum day 1 with a history of Partus Maturus with Oxytocin Drip Augmentation: Severe Preeclampsia. For four days of care, the client received antihypertensive therapy 3 x 1 per day accompanied by blood pressure monitoring, physical examination and laboratory evaluation. Monitoring results showed that blood pressure continued to fluctuate until the fourth postpartum day, ranging from 127/90 mmHg to 180/120 mmHg, despite a decrease in edema from grade 3 to grade 2 and an improvement in hemoglobin levels. These findings indicate that despite clinical and laboratory improvements, the mother's hemodynamic condition was not stable until the fourth postpartum day. Therefore, intensive blood pressure monitoring and therapy evaluation are needed until blood pressure stability and optimal clinical improvement are achieved.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common menstrual disorders experienced by adolescent girls and often reduces their activity and quality of life. Menstrual pain can be treated with non-pharmacological therapies, one of which is consuming warm lemongrass tea, which contains essential oils that have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. This study aims to apply warm lemongrass tea therapy in reducing menstrual pain in adolescent girls using an application. The research design used a case study with a qualitative approach. There were two participants in this study, both adolescent girls at SMAN 05 Kota Bengkulu who experienced moderate menstrual pain (4–6). Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and physical examinations over three days. The intervention provided was warm lemongrass tea accompanied by self-care education based on Orem's concept, which includes universal self-care requirements, developmental self-care requirements, and health deviation. The results showed a decrease in pain intensity in both respondents after receiving warm lemongrass tea therapy. Respondents were also able to understand how to make and use lemongrass tea as an independent effort to reduce menstrual pain. This intervention proved to be effective as a non-pharmacological complementary therapy and was in line with the application of Orem's theory in increasing adolescent self-care independence.
