Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease of the respiratory system that remains a global public health problem, including in Indonesia, with high incidence rates among adolescents due to intense social activities and interactions. This community service activity aims to increase adolescents' knowledge about TB from an epidemiological perspective, including modes of transmission, symptoms, risk factors, and prevention efforts as an airborne disease. The method used was a quasi-experimental approach with a two-group pretest-posttest design, through health education provided to 149 adolescents aged 15–17 years at Darussalam High School in Medan. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires to assess the level of knowledge before and after the educational intervention. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the level of knowledge after the education was provided, where the percentage of respondents in the high knowledge category increased from 82% in the pre-test to 93% in the post-test, accompanied by a decrease in the sufficient and low knowledge categories. This study shows that community service activities through health education have a significant effect on increasing adolescents' knowledge about tuberculosis. Health education has been proven to be effective as a promotional and preventive measure, so it needs to be implemented continuously to prevent the transmission

Abstract

Understanding private body parts is a fundamental aspect of early childhood education to prevent sexual violence, cases of which are increasingly rising. The lack of children's knowledge regarding body privacy and self-protection serves as a primary risk factor. This community service aims to enhance the knowledge of students at SDN 060831 regarding the identification of private body parts and self-protection mechanisms. The implementation method included a preparation phase, participatory education using visual media and dance, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant increase in students' understanding, as evidenced by the rise in the average knowledge score from 64% during the pre-test to 95% during the post-test. This indicates that interactive educational methods through dance and visuals are effective in instilling an understanding of self-protection in elementary school students.

Abstract

The digital transformation of healthcare requires hospitals to optimally implement Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in accordance with the National Hospital Accreditation Standards (SNARS). However, challenges remain related to human resource readiness and the effective use of EMR to support KARS accreditation and service quality improvement. This community service activity aimed to provide assistance in implementing SNARS-based EMR at Mitra Sejati General Hospital, Medan. A descriptive–qualitative approach was applied through education, structured training, focused group discussions, and peer group mentoring involving healthcare professionals and supporting staff. The results demonstrated an improvement in participants’ understanding of SNARS, increased compliance of EMR implementation with KARS standards, and enhanced quality and traceability of medical record documentation. The assistance also improved hospital readiness for accreditation and contributed to quality and patient safety improvement. It can be concluded that SNARS-based EMR implementation assistance is an effective strategy to support KARS accreditation and enhance hospital service quality.

Abstract

The landslide disaster that occurred in Tetumpun Village in June 2025 forced 45 families to take refuge. The evacuation conditions with limited access to clean water and sanitation posed high risks to reproductive organ hygiene problems among women. This community service activity aims to increase knowledge and skills of refugee mothers in maintaining reproductive organ hygiene. Implementation methods included reproductive health education, hygiene practice demonstrations, and distribution of hygiene kits. The activity was conducted for 1 day on July 15, 2025 and attended by 18 refugee mothers. Results showed an increase in participants' knowledge from an average of 52.78 (poor category) to 78.89 (good category) with an increase of 26.11 points (49.4%). All participants (100%) were able to practice proper reproductive organ cleaning methods after demonstration. Each participant received a hygiene kit containing sanitary pads, antiseptic soap, underwear, and other hygiene supplies. This activity successfully increased the capacity of refugee mothers in maintaining reproductive organ hygiene despite limited conditions.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to enhance the managerial capacity and digitalization skills of MSME owners in Mencirim Village, East Binjai. Initial observations revealed five structural issues: weak financial record-keeping, conventional marketing strategies, minimal use of social media for promotion, lack of brand identity, and limited understanding of pricing strategy. The methodology employed a Participatory Action Approach (PAA), encompassing needs identification, structured training, practical workshops, and six weeks of intensive mentoring for 25 MSME participants. Results indicate a substantial increase across all measured indicators: 84% of participants implemented simple bookkeeping, 76% actively used social media for promotion, 72% developed brand identities, and 80% demonstrated improved pricing strategies all surpassing the established targets. Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test confirmed statistical significance (p < 0.05). The program also fostered entrepreneurial mindset shifts, the formation of local business networks, and the emergence of community-based local leaders. Continuous mentoring and cross-stakeholder collaboration are recommended to sustain long-term economic impact.

Abstract

Effective communication through the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) method is a crucial component in improving patient safety and the quality of nursing care. However, nursing students often fail to systematically implement SBAR communication during clinical practice. This community service project aims to improve students' SBAR communication competency through mentoring-based training with an experiential learning approach at RSU Haji Medan. The method used was a pretest–posttest design without a control group involving 15 nursing students. The intervention was carried out through the stages of reinforcing the SBAR concept, direct mentoring in the treatment room, and observation- and reflection-based evaluation. Competency was measured using an observation sheet covering the aspects of Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, communication clarity, and self-confidence. The results showed an increase in the average score from 65.6 in the pretest to 83.8 in the posttest, with an average increase of 18.2 points and all participants experienced an increase (100%). These findings indicate that experiential learning-based mentoring is effective in improving students' SBAR communication competency. In addition to improving individual skills, this program also contributes to building a culture of professional communication and supporting patient safety in the hospital environment

Abstract

Anxiety is a common psychological problem experienced by third-trimester pregnant women, particularly as they approach labor. If left unaddressed, this condition can negatively impact both maternal and fetal health. This community service activity aimed to provide education on deep breathing relaxation techniques as an effort to reduce anxiety among third-trimester pregnant women at Juliana Harahap Clinic in 2025. The methods used included lectures, direct simulation, and question-and-answer sessions supported by leaflet media, involving 20 third-trimester pregnant women as participants. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the intervention and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that prior to the education, the majority of respondents experienced moderate anxiety (55.0%) and severe anxiety (30.0%). Following the intervention, a significant reduction was observed, with 30.0% of respondents categorized as anxiety-free and 55.0% classified under mild anxiety, with no respondents remaining in the severe anxiety category. Statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), with a decrease in the mean anxiety score from 2.15 to 1.15. It is concluded that deep breathing relaxation education significantly reduces anxiety levels in third-trimester pregnant women and is recommended for integration into routine antenatal care service programs at healthcare facilities.

Abstract

Indonesia continues to face a significant burden of stunting that seriously impacts human resource quality and national development. Stunting is defined as a condition of chronic linear growth failure in children under five years, characterized by height-for-age below minus two standard deviations (−2 SD) from the WHO Child Growth Standards median, resulting from prolonged nutritional deficiency during the first 1,000 days of life. Indonesia's national stunting prevalence in 2022 remained at 21.6%, far from the 2024 national target of 14%. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of pregnant mothers and mothers with toddlers regarding the definition, causative factors, impacts, and prevention strategies of stunting in Banyumas Village, Stabat District, Langkat Regency, in 2025. A community-based participatory intervention approach with a pre-post single group design was employed, incorporating interactive health counseling, group discussion sessions, anthropometric examination of toddlers, and pre-test and post-test knowledge assessments using a validated questionnaire. Participants consisted of 21 pregnant mothers and mothers with toddlers, with 7 toddlers undergoing anthropometric examination. Results demonstrated a significant increase in the mean knowledge score from 55.24 (pre-test) to 82.38 (post-test), reflecting an improvement of 27.14 points. Anthropometric examination identified 1 out of 7 toddlers (14.3%) as having poor nutritional status based on the height-for-age index. Beyond measurable knowledge gains, the activity successfully promoted perceptual change among participants, fostered the active role of local health cadres as community change agents, and cultivated collective awareness regarding the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in stunting prevention efforts. It is recommended that posyandu cadres actively sustain the 1,000 HPK counseling program on a continuous basis, and that the institution develop more comprehensive follow-up community service programs in the target area.
