Abstract

Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) are pervasive environmental contaminants that increasingly infiltrate the human food chain, making dietary intake a continuous and unavoidable route of exposure. However, the integration of food-chain sources, exposure hotspots, biological absorption, and organ-specific health effects remains fragmented across the literature. This umbrella review synthesizes recent review-level evidence published between 2022 and 2025, focusing on farm-to-fork pathways of dietary microplastics, high-risk food contact materials—particularly tea bags and disposable cups—and mechanistic links to human health outcomes. Evidence indicates that microplastics originate from environmental contamination, food processing, packaging, and consumer-stage practices, with hot beverages representing a major but under-recognized exposure hotspot. Following ingestion, microplastics interact with the gastrointestinal tract, disrupt barrier integrity, and translocate systemically, accumulating in target organs including the liver, kidneys, endocrine organs, and reproductive tissues. Mechanistic pathways consistently involve oxidative stress, inflammatory signaling, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and endocrine disruption, often exacerbated by plastic-derived chemical additives. Despite growing concern, substantial methodological heterogeneity in detection and reporting limits quantitative risk assessment. Overall, dietary microplastics should be regarded as a multi-organ toxicological concern, underscoring the urgent need for standardized analytical frameworks and regulatory attention to food-contact materials and hot beverage consumption practices.

Abstract

Islamic economics emphasizes social justice and equitable welfare distribution as core normative objectives, particularly through zakat, waqf, and Islamic social finance instruments. However, empirical findings on their effectiveness remain fragmented across institutional, social, and governance contexts. This study aims to systematically examine the role of Islamic social finance in promoting social justice, redistribution, and welfare. This research adopts a Systematic Journal Review approach by synthesizing peer-reviewed qualitative and quantitative studies published in reputable national and international journals. Articles were selected based on relevance, methodological rigor, and empirical focus on Islamic social finance and welfare outcomes. The findings indicate that zakat, waqf, and related instruments significantly contribute to poverty alleviation, welfare improvement, and economic empowerment. Quantitative evidence confirms statistically significant relationships between Islamic social finance distribution and welfare indicators, although governance constraints may weaken direct impacts in certain contexts. Qualitative studies highlight the importance of institutional accountability, digital integration, and productive financing models in enhancing redistributive effectiveness. In conclusion, Islamic social finance constitutes a viable and multidimensional mechanism for advancing social justice and welfare, provided it is supported by robust governance and strategic institutional integration.

Abstract

Drama, as a form of mass communication media, has the capacity to disseminate information, convey ideas, and influence audience behavior. Taxi Driver, a drama centered on the overarching themes of revenge and the pursuit of justice, presents representations of social issues through the lens of critical communication theory. This study employs critical discourse analysis based on the models developed by Norman Fairclough and Teun A. Van Dijk to examine the representation of social issues in Taxi Driver II, to analyze how the characters embody principles of critical communication theory, and to identify the impacts and messages conveyed to viewers. The findings of the critical discourse analysis using these two models demonstrate that the drama represents a wide range of social issues, including legal injustice, human trafficking, fraud targeting the elderly, child exploitation, cult-related fraud, medical malpractice, and illegal business operations. These social issues are articulated through scenes, character actions, dialogues, metaphors, and other narrative elements. The character Kim Do Gi emerges as an icon of the struggle for justice and exemplifies the application of critical communication theory in challenging domination and combating injustice. The narrative and characterization collectively convey messages that encourage viewers to become more attentive to their social surroundings and to cultivate a commitment to advocating for justice within society.
