Abstract

Rasbora galaxy (Danio margaritatus) is a type of freshwater ornamental fish that has a fairly high economic value and is in great demand in the international market. This fish is included in the omnivorous group of animals that tend to be carnivorous and can consume natural feed or commercial feed. Natural feed has advantages including very high nutritional content, easy to obtain and cheaper prices when compared to commercial feed. The types of natural feed that can potentially be consumed by rasbora galaxy fish measuring 1.5-2 cm are Tubifex sp), Artemia sp and Daphnia sp. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of providing different types of natural feed on the absolute length growth of rasbora galaxy fish (Danio margaritatus) measuring 1.5-2 cm in experimental tanks. This study used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 3 treatments and 9 replications. The treatment in this study was in the form of providing different types of natural feed. Treatment A; Tubifex natural feed, treatment B; Artemia sp natural feed and treatment C; Daphnia sp natural feed. The test animals used 1.5 - 2 cm galaxy rasbora fish with an average weight of 0.5 g/tail and an average initial length of 1.5 cm. The stocking density was 15 fish/liter, the experimental media used fresh water with a volume of 3 liters/tank. The results showed that treatment A gave the best results for the absolute length growth of 1.5 - 2 cm galaxy rasbora fish of 0.7 cm/tail. Water quality data obtained water temperature ranged from 26.0-27.0 0C, acidity levels ranged from 6.9-7.2 and dissolved oxygen ranged from 4.5 - 5.0 ppm.”

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the industrial management system and calculate the value added of shredded fish products produced by UMKM Hippjanciss in Tanjungkerta District, Sumedang Regency. The research employed a descriptive case study approach by combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Data were collected through direct observation of the production process, in-depth interviews with the business owner, and supporting documentation. Industrial management analysis covered raw material procurement, production processes, labour, and marketing strategies. Value added was measured using the Hayami method, which calculates the difference between output value and main input costs. The results show that UMKM Hippjanciss implements a management system based on local partnerships, a hygienic manual production process, and a marketing strategy that integrates both offline and online approaches. Marketing efforts target household consumers and workers, with cost-based pricing, limited promotion through bazaars and WhatsApp, and direct distribution to end-users. The value added of shredded fish products reached IDR 70,000/kg, with a ratio of 58.33%, indicating high economic efficiency. The added value was distributed as 32.14% for labour income and 39.80% for business profit. These findings suggest that UMKM Hippjanciss operates efficiently and has strong potential to be developed as a sustainable microenterprise based on local fisheries resources.

Abstract

The waters of Atapupu have significant potential in the fisheries sector and play an important role in improving the welfare of coastal communities in Belu Regency. This study aims to evaluate the dimensions of drift gill nets and analyze the composition and selectivity of the catch. A descriptive quantitative method was used through field observations, interviews, and data analysis. The drift gill nets examined had a mesh size of 3.175 cm and a length of 27 meters, with upper shortening of 50% and lower shortening of 48%. The catch was dominated by flying fish (74.09%), with bycatch consisting of halfbeaks, needlefish, and scads. The diversity index (H’ = 0.68) and dominance index (C = 0.60) indicate that the nets have low selectivity, as they capture various fish species regardless of size or type. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for more selective and sustainable fishing gear management in the coastal waters of Atapupu.

Abstract

The aquaponics system is an alternative solution that can utilize waste from cultivation while saving land and water use. One common obstacle in tilapia and catfish cultivation is the use of artificial feed which is quite expensive from an economic point of view and produces large amounts of waste, which can degrade water quality. This study aims to compare water quality in tilapia and catfish cultivation in an aquaponics system using maggot-based feed. The study was conducted from March to May 2025, located in Mandalle Village, Mandalle District, Pangkep Regency, and at the Pangkep State Agricultural Polytechnic Laboratory. The study was designed on a field laboratory scale with two treatments, each replicated three times. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that NH3 levels at the beginning of treatment A: 0.003 mg/L and B: 0.002 mg/L, in the middle A: 0.124 mg/L and B: 0.102 mg/L, and at the end of treatment A: 0.065 mg/L. Meanwhile, the NO3 levels at the beginning of treatment were A and B: 0.001 mg/L, mid A: 0.080 mg/L and B: 0.044 mg/L, and end A: 0.051 mg/L and B: 0.044 mg/L. For PO4, the results were initial A and B: 0.002 mg/L, mid A: 0.048 mg/L and B: 0.015 mg/L, and end A: 0.051 mg/L and B: 0.022 mg/L. Aquaponic system with maggot feed provides a significant difference in phosphate levels, but does not show a significant difference in ammonia and nitrate levels.

Abstract

The high pressure on turtle populations due to habitat degradation, exploitation, and low public awareness makes turtle conservation an important issue in coastal area management. Kelapa Dua Island in the Thousand Islands National Park is one of the turtle conservation areas that also has the potential to be developed as a sustainable ecotourism destination. This study aims to analyze the suitability of beach tourism and formulate a sustainability strategy for ecotourism based on turtle conservation. The method used is a survey with quantitative descriptive approaches. Data collection was carried out through field observations, interviews, questionnaires, and measurement of environmental parameters, which were analyzed using the SWOT Matrix and the Grand Strategy Matrix. The results showed that tourist land was classified as "suitable" with an average score of 68%. The conservation strategy shows high effectiveness with a success rate of 71.98% of turtle egg hatching in the last six years. The results of the analysis showed that the community and conservation officers were in Quadrant I (S–O strategy), while tourists were in Quadrant III (W–T strategy). Therefore, ecotourism management strategies need to be focused on optimizing regional strengths and opportunities as well as strengthening community institutions in facing conservation challenges.

Abstract

Fish is a favorite food source that contains amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, selenium and calcium that can maintain the immune system. On the other hand, fish can also absorb and accumulate heavy metals such as Pb, Cr and Cd which can cause toxic effects. Heavy metal contamination in consumed fish has become a global issue especially in developing countries including Indonesia. In 2020, Banyumas Regency (Purwokerto) was the center and largest contributor to freshwater fish production in Central Java Province, whose production reached 3.6 tons or 31% of the total production with a total value of 181.9 billion. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct research related to Pb, Cr, Cd contamination and the level of food safety of consumed freshwater fish sold in the traditional market of Purwokerto city. This study aims to determine the food safety level of freshwater fish consumed in traditional markets in Purwokerto city from contamination by heavy metals Pb, Cd, and Cr. The methods used were a survey method, heavy metal content analysis using AAS, and safety level analysis using EDI, THQ, HI, and TR. The results showed that the concentration of Pb Cd, Cr in pomfret, tilapia and catfish in the Wage, Manis and Pon markets compared to the quality standard is still below so that these concentrations are still in the safe category for consumption. The results of the risk analysis show that the values of EDI, THQ, HI and TR in pomfret, tilapia and catfish in the Wage (PW), Manis (PM) and Pon (PP) markets are still below the threshold or standard both nationally and internationally so that it can be categorized as safe or does not pose a risk to human health.

Abstract

Catfish are highly tolerant of changes in water quality, making them easier to cultivate. Catfish are omnivorous, consuming fish bones and catfish maggots. One way to substitute catfish feed is by adding chicken manure, made with other feed additives. This study used four treatments for chicken manure substitute feed: A1 (without MA), A2 (10% MA), A3 (15% MA), and A4 (20% MA). Chicken manure was fed 3 times a day and maintained for one month. Water changes were carried out once a week by reducing the water by 50%. Water quality testing was carried out twice, namely at the beginning and end of maintenance. Water quality sampling was carried out in fish pond conditions that had not been reduced. Water quality tests carried out were water physics tests, water chemistry tests and water biology tests which included temperature, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia, pH, DO, TSS and e-coli bacteria. The results of physical water quality obtained during maintenance were water temperature in each treatment had a relative range of 27-29oC at the beginning and end of maintenance. The results of chemical quality at the beginning and end were nitrite obtained in the range of 0.01-0.03 mg/l, phosphate range of 2.10-3.2 mg/l, DO range of 1.82-3.91 mg/l, ammonia range of 3.06-3.67 mg/l, TSS range of 0.20-0.60, pH range of 6.10-6.70. The biological water quality results obtained were e-coli values ranging from 90-130 CFU/ml. The water quality results obtained were still within the normal range for catfish cultivation and the water quality values obtained were compared with PP No. 82 2001, SNI Catfish Breeding, KMN Environmental No. 115 of 2003. Abstract

Sushi is one of Japan's traditional foods made from raw fish and rice, renowned globally. Originally, sushi derived from a method of preserving fish using rice and salt developed in China, later adopted by Japanese society during the Yayoi period (300 BC–300 AD). The evolution of sushi from long fermentation processes to modern variations involved changes in techniques and ingredients, including the use of vinegar to replace fermentation in the 16th century. Various types of sushi, such as Nigiri-zushi, Maki-zushi, and Chirashi-zushi, highlight the richness of Japanese culinary culture. This study employs a descriptive observation method through a qualitative approach with literature review to explore the history, types, and significance of sushi in Japanese culture. Beyond being a celebratory dish, sushi also contributes to the healthy dietary habits of the Japanese, supported by choumiryou, particularly vinegar, as a natural antibacterial agent. This reflects the vital role of traditional foods in sustaining Japan's high life expectancy. The evolution and adaptation of sushi into a global icon illustrate the dynamic and profound nature of culinary culture.

Abstract

Pedada mangrove fruits (Sonneratia sp.) have high nutritional content, but their utilization remains limited due to their sour taste which is less preferred by consumers. This study aimed to analyze the effect of carrageenan addition as a stabilizer on the chemical characteristics of pedada fruit juice drinks and determine the optimal concentration. The research method used an experimental approach with carrageenan concentration variations of 0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5% (w/v). Evaluation included organoleptic tests using 25 semi-trained panelists with a hedonic scale of 1-9 for color, aroma, texture, and taste parameters, as well as chemical analysis including pH, vitamin C, and antioxidant activity (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP). Organoleptic data were analyzed using Friedman test followed by multiple comparison test, while chemical data were analyzed descriptively. Results showed that 0.3% carrageenan addition provided the highest preference level for all organoleptic parameters, particularly texture which increased significantly from 5.48 to 7.08. Chemical analysis revealed that 0.3% carrageenan maintained stable pH at 4, increased vitamin C content from 17.61 mg/100ml to 21.49 mg/100ml, and improved ABTS antioxidant activity with IC50 value decreasing from 125.93 ppm to 77.40 ppm. Carrageenan at 0.3% concentration represents the optimal stabilizer concentration for producing high-quality pedada fruit juice drinks with preferred sensory characteristics and maintained nutritional value.

Abstract

The demand for tilapia continues to increase, but the problem of disease caused by the bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila has become a major challenge in tilapia farming, resulting in significant losses due to high fish mortality rates. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of jamblang leaf extract (Syzygium cumini) in treating Aeromonas hydrophila infections in tilapia. The study employed an experimental design using a Completely Randomised Design (CRD) involving 5 treatments and 4 replications, namely (A) negative control, (B) positive control, and treatment with jamblang leaf extract (C) at a dose of 18.5 mL/1.5 L, treatment (D) at 26.25 mL/1.5 L, and (E) 33.75 mL/1½ L. The results showed that jamblang leaf extract had a significant impact on the recovery of tilapia. Clinical symptoms of infection included swimming at the bottom, wounds, and excessive mucus. Leukocyte observations showed a spike on the first day, with treatment C showing better results than the positive control. Hemoglobin and haematocrit levels also showed better recovery in treatment C, with hemoglobin levels of 6 g/dL and haematocrit levels of 19% on day 14. The highest fish survival rate was recorded in treatment C (78.33% ± 8.38), while the positive control only reached 28.33% ± 6.38. Water quality during the study indicated conditions favourable for fish survival. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that jamblang leaf extract at a dose of 18.5 mL/1.5 L was effective in improving survival rates and correcting blood parameters in fish infected with bacteria.
