Abstract

Water fertility is the ability of a body of water to support and sustain the survival and growth of organisms such as phytoplankton and other marine plants. Phytoplankton are used as biological indicators to determine water quality, either by analyzing species diversity or by using certain indicator species.This research aims to assess the fertility level of the waters based on phytoplankton abundance in the waters of Tobati Village. The study was conducted from June to August 2025. Plankton samples were collected randomly at 4 stations with 3 replications. Water quality parameters were measured in situ, while nitrate and phosphate analyses were carried out at the Regional Health Laboratory of Papua. Identification and enumeration of phytoplankton were conducted at the Aquatic Resources Management Laboratory. Data analysis included total phytoplankton abundance, diversity index, evenness index, and water fertility criteria. The results showed 12 phytoplankton species including of the classes Bacillariophyceae and Dinophyceae. The highest total phytoplankton abundance in the waters of Tobati Village was found at station II with 8,855 cells/L, while the lowest was recorded at station I with 7,007 cells/L. The diversity index values at stations I and II were categorized as moderate, while at stations III and IV they were classified as low. The evenness index ranged from 0.14 to 0.42, indicating that phytoplankton species distribution across the four stations was uneven. Based on the findings, the average phytoplankton abundance across the four stations was 7,543 cells/L. The waters of Tobati Village are categorized as mesotrophic (moderately fertile). Thus, the fertility level of Tobati Village waters, South Jayapura District, Jayapura City, based on phytoplankton abundance, falls under the moderately fertile (mesotrophic) category, with no indication of pollution.

Abstract

The layang fishery sector (Decapterus russelli) has significant potential and high economic value; however, there is inefficient price instability within the marketing channels, resulting in uneven profit distribution. This study aims to analyze the marketing channels, marketing margins, and marketing efficiency of flying fish in Talisayan Village, Talisayan District, Berau Regency. The data analysis includes marketing channel analysis, marketing margin calculation, and marketing efficiency evaluation using Shepherd’s method and the Acharya and Aggrawal method. The results indicate two marketing channels: Channel I (Fishermen - collector traders - consumers) with marketing costs of IDR 638/kg, a selling price of IDR 15,000/kg, and a marketing margin of IDR 7,000/kg; and Channel II with marketing costs of IDR 1,647/kg, a selling price of IDR 23,000/kg, and a marketing margin of IDR 15,000/kg. Efficiency analysis using Shepherd’s method reveals that Channel I is more efficient (22.5%) than Channel II (12.9%). Similar findings were obtained from the Acharya and Aggrawal method, where Channel I showed an efficiency of 1.05%, higher than Channel II’s 0.48%. The shorter marketing channel, Channel I (Fishermen - collector traders - consumers), is proven to be more efficient and provides greater income to fishermen compared to Channel II, which involves two intermediaries.

Abstract

Vaname shrimp aquaculture in Bantul Regency is one blue economy sector with significant potential in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY). However, this sector experiences varios dynamics that could potentially affect its sustainability. The purpose of this study was to assess the sustainability of shrimp aquaculture in Bantul Regency. The shrimp aquaculture assessment was conducted at the company scale. Six aquaculture locations served as case studies. Primary data collection was conducted through interviews with farmers. The primary data then processed and analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results showed that the sustainability assessment at the farmes business scale was predominantly approaching sustainable. Indicators in each component including environmental, economic, and social influenced this assessment. Six locations were categorizes as approaching sustainable, S1, S2, S3, S4 dan S5. Meanwhile S6 was categorized as far from sustainable.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the productive working hours and income contribution of fishermen's wives to the household income of longline fishermen in Karanggandu Village, Trenggalek. The sample was determined using purposive sampling of 24 longline fishermen's wives who work productively in the fisheries sector. The results show that the types of productive work performed by fishermen's wives in the fisheries sector are fish selling, reyeng making, and smoked fish production. The amount of time spent working is 90 HOK/year for fish sellers, 123 HOK/year for reyeng makers, and the most time is spent on smoked fish production, which is 135 HOK/year. The average household income of longline fishermen is Rp. 121.224.410/year. The contribution of income from fishermen's wives who work as fish sellers is 55% (11 people), fish paste makers 5% (10 people), and smoked fish businesses 63% (3 people). The contribution of fishermen's wives' income is relatively high, especially in the smoked fish business, but only 3 people are engaged in this business due to limited capital and labor. The greater the ability to utilize production factors, particularly skills, capital, and simple technology, the greater the added value created and the contribution to the economic welfare of fishing families.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai indeks kesesuaian lahan sebagai dasar perencanaan pembangunan pelabuhan di wilayah Teluk Lampung dengan fokus pada Pantai Sukaraja, Bandar Lampung. Metode kuantitatif yang mengintegrasikan data oseanografi seperti batimetri, pasang surut, gelombang, arus, dan luas area diterapkan menggunakan teknologi Penginderaan Jauh dan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) dengan perangkat lunak ArcGIS dan Surfer. Analisis spasial menggunakan Model Builder menghasilkan peta zonasi kesesuaian lahan. Hasil menunjukkan Pantai Sukaraja tidak memenuhi kriteria untuk pelabuhan kapal besar dan lebih sesuai untuk Pelabuhan Perikanan Kecil (PPI). Namun, Teluk Lampung memiliki potensi kesesuaian yang lebih tinggi untuk pembangunan pelabuhan berskala nasional dan samudera (PPS dan PPN). Lokasi rekomendasi pada zona pelabuhan besar terletak di Kelurahan Srengsem, Kecamatan Panjang, Kota Bandar Lampung, dengan luas area sekitar 635 hektar. Penentuan lokasi ini didukung oleh analisis parameter oseanografi yang menunjukkan tingkat kesesuaian sangat tinggi (S1). Pemetaan rinci dan evaluasi komprehensif ini dapat membantu perencanaan pelabuhan yang lestari dan berkelanjutan di Teluk Lampung, mendukung pengembangan ekonomi maritim dan keberlanjutan lingkungan.

Abstract

Ekosistem kesehatan lamun menjadi indikator utama yang mencerminkan kondisi padang lamun di suatu lokasi serta berperan dalam menentukan tingkat keanekaragaman hayati yang didukungnya (Dewi et al . 2019). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesehatan ekosistem lamun serta keberadaan biota asosiasinya di kawasan konservasi perairan Gili Balu, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada tiga stasiun dengan metode transek kuadrat untuk menilai persentase tutupan lamun, epifit, makroalga, serta parameter kualitas perairan. Indeks Kesehatan Ekosistem Lamun (IKEL) dihitung berdasarkan penutupan lamun, epifit, makroalga, kecerahan, dan kekayaan jenis. Analisis komunitas biota asosiasi menggunakan indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener (H'), dominansi (C), dan keseragaman (E'). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai IKEL pada Stasiun 1 (0,72) dan Stasiun 2 (0,716) termasuk kategori baik, sedangkan Stasiun 3 (0,623) berada pada kategori sedang. Indeks keanekaragaman tertinggi terdapat pada Stasiun 1 (H'=3,565) dengan komunitas stabil, sedangkan Stasiun 2 (H'=2,024) dan Stasiun 3 (H'=1,651) tergolong sedang. Hasil analisis korelasi Rank Spearman menunjukkan hubungan positif antara nilai IKEL dan indeks keanekaragaman, namun tidak signifikan secara statistik, sehingga keanekaragaman biota juga mempengaruhi faktor lain seperti substrat, kualitas perairan, dan tekanan antropogenik. Abstract

The dragon trap (bubu naga) is a passive fishing gear that is operated by placing it on the seabed, leaving it for several hours, and then lifting it to collect the catch. This study aimed to determine the most effective bait for catching banana shrimp (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis) in the coastal waters of Tangkolak Beach, Karawang. The research was conducted using an experimental fishing method with a Randomized Block Design (RBD), consisting of three treatments: seriding fish bait, tonguefish bait, and petek fish bait, with nine replications each. The catch data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test to identify differences among treatments. The results showed that the use of seriding fish bait produced the highest catch, reaching 5,728 g, while the lowest catch was obtained with tonguefish bait, at 2,011 g. The LSD test indicated that bait type had a significant effect on the catch of banana shrimp. Therefore, seriding fish bait is recommended as the most effective bait for the operation of dragon traps in capturing banana shrimp in Tangkolak coastal waters.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of pelagic fish diversity in the waters of the East Coast of North Sumatra and describe the condition of the existing fish community as the basis for sustainable fisheries management. The research was carried out in three main locations, namely Belawan, Tanjung Balai, and Kuala Tanjung, during the period from March to May 2025. The research method uses field surveys with purposive sampling techniques through landing fishermen's catches, species identification, and diversity analysis with Shannon-Wiener indices, uniformity, and dominance. The results of the study showed that eight types of pelagic fish were found, with mackerel (Rastrelliger spp.) and tembang fish (Sardinella fimbriata) as the dominant species. The diversity index value (H' = 1.91) indicated moderate diversity, with high uniformity (E = 0.92) and low dominance (C = 0.14). This indicates that the pelagic fish community in the region is relatively stable and is not dominated by one particular type of fish. Differences between locations show the influence of environmental conditions and human activities. These results reinforce the importance of ecological-based fisheries resource management to maintain the sustainability and balance of marine ecosystems on the East Coast of North Sumatra.

Abstract

Pengembangan usaha akuakultur skala kecil masih menghadapi berbagai kendala pada aspek teknis, manajerial, kelembagaan, dan pemasaran. Model Pentaheliks yang melibatkan akademisi, pelaku usaha, pemerintah dan lembaga keuangan, asosiasi, serta media, berpotensi memperkuat keberlanjutan dan daya saing sektor ini. Penelitian ini menganalisis kondisi unit usaha akuakultur milik orangtua mahasiswa serta merumuskan strategi pengembangannya berbasis model Pentaheliks. Peneliti menggunakan metode survei deskriptif terhadap 41 unit usaha, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) dengan aktor Pentaheliks, dan analisis SWOT untuk menentukan kekuatan, kelemahan, peluang, ancaman, serta arah strategi pengembangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar unit usaha beroperasi dalam skala kecil dengan produksi dan pendapatan terbatas, tergabung dalam kelompok pembudidaya, masih menggunakan teknologi tradisional, dan memasarkan hasil melalui pengepul dan pasar tradisional. Permasalahan teknis, manajerial, kelembagaan, dan pemasaran memerlukan intervensi kolaboratif melalui pendekatan Pentaheliks. Para aktor Pentaheliks menilai bahwa unit usaha tersebut memiliki potensi pengembangan ke depan. Analisis SWOT menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan utama terletak pada pengalaman pembudidaya dan dukungan lahan, sementara kelemahan mencakup aspek manajemen dan teknologi, peluang muncul dari sinergi antaraktor dan perluasan akses pasar, sedangkan ancaman berasal dari fluktuasi harga serta keterbatasan modal. Strategi pengembangan difokuskan pada peningkatan inovasi teknologi, perbaikan manajemen usaha, penguatan kelembagaan, dan optimalisasi jejaring Pentaheliks untuk memperluas akses pasar dan modal. Dengan demikian, implementasi terintegrasi model Pentaheliks berpotensi meningkatkan kapasitas teknis, manajerial, dan pemasaran, sehingga memperkuat daya saing dan keberlanjutan regenerasi usaha akuakultur orangtua mahasiswa.
INFLUENCE OF CARBON SOURCE COMPLEXITY ON PROKARYOTIC COMMUNITY COMPOSITION IN BIOFLOC SYSTEMS: A REVIEW Apriana Vinasyiam

Abstract

Biofloc technology (BFT) relies on the management of microbial communities to improve water quality and recycle nutrients in aquaculture systems. This review summarizes findings from 16 studies that analyzed prokaryotic (bacterial) communities in biofloc systems using different carbon sources, categorized by structural complexity: (i) simple (glucose, molasses), (ii) mid-complex (starch), and (iii) complex (digested plant cellulose, wheat bran). Dominant phyla commonly found across all carbon categories include Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota/Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteriota, Cyanobacteria, Firmicutes, and Planctomycota/Planctomycetes. Unique phyla associated with simple carbon were Chlamydiae, Acidobacteriota, Dadabacteria, Patescibacteria, and Xanthomonadaceae, while Fusobacteria dan Gemmatimonadetes appeared only in systems using mid-complex and complex carbon sources. Chloroflexi appeared in all carbon categories but was more frequently mentioned in studies when systems using mid-complex and complex carbon sources. These results suggest differences in substrate utilization, respiratory pathways, and bacterial groups involved in degrading carbon of varying complexity. However, quantitative comparisons of bacterial communities could not be made due to variations in C:N ratios, carbon dosages, and cultured species among studies. A more standardized approach is needed to better understand how carbon complexity shapes the structure and function of microbial communities in biofloc systems.
