Abstract

Nursery culture of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is an important segment to support a comprehensive tilapia culture business. Requirements for business sustainability involve the high profitability of the company and high growth of the reared fish. This experiment aimed to observe the profitability aspect, fish growth, water quality, and culture techniques applied in a tilapia farm. The experiment was done using case study method, where Turbo farm, located  in Bogor West Java, was used as a model. The data collected involved primary data from field observation and secondary data from interview activities. The results showed that tilapia juvenile had a good growth, and that the water quality (temperature and pH) ranged within optimal range for tilapia culture. At stocing density of 2.000 juvenile per production unit in one cycle, the total production was 68.400 juvenile per year, in which 10% of the total produced juvenile were sold at size of 7-8 cm, while the remaining juveniles were at size 11-12 cm. Price of juvenile at size 7-8 cm was half of the size 11-12 cm, Rp 600 vs Rp 1.200 per juvenile, respectively. The profit of the business was Rp 43.989.000 per year with value of revenue/cost (R/C) ratio 2,29, and payback period (PP) 6,27 year. Based on the previously mentioned profitability parameters, the nursery culture of tilapia performed by Turbo farm was profitable. However, an efficiency of facility use was needed to increase profit and shorten the return on investment period.

Abstract

Purwasari village has an unutilized resources for aquaculture activities, such as ponds, water from agriculture irrigation, and human resources in farmer groups. Despite the high interest in aquaculture activities that the people have, the aquaculture activities are still limited by the lack of knowledge regarding the technical aspect of aquaculture. Besides, the high price of the fish feed also becomes a primary limiting factor. This community service aimed to increase the community empowerment of Purwasari village by Tambaqui fish and maggot culture, to increase the profitability and food security of Purwasari village during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. This activity was performed using a hybrid method, consisting of offline activities for the field survey, and controlling; online activities for distributing monthly questionnaires, and arranging a meeting between the university lecturer, speaker, and the villagers. This activity established a knowledge transfer from the university (Institut Pertanian Bogor) to the villagers. Based on the results of the questionnaire, this activity increased the knowledge, skill, number of members, and responsibility of the farmer group. Indicators of the physical improvement could be seen in the pond revitalization and infrastructure of the Tambaqui and maggot culture. This community service activity was applicable in Purwasari village and potentially increased the profitability and food security of Purwasari village during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

Abstract

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the aquaculture commodities that has the potential to be develop as a promising freshwater aquaculture sector in the long term. The condition of the high market and demand for fish consumption has become the goal of the cultivating community in Pulau Terap Village to produce tilapia commodities. However, in cultivation activities, fluctuations in production yields and cycles often occur, it is necessary to study the production process. The purpose of this study was to analyze the production and business performance of tilapia in Pulau Terap Village, Kuok District, Kampar Regency, Riau. This research uses a survey case study method with direct observation, interviews and participating in on-farm cultivation activities to collect data in the field. The results showed that the production of tilapia fish farming in Pulau Terap Village with the KJA system had a better TKH at KJA size 3×6 m by 49.74±2.63%, LPS value was better at KJA size 4×7 m by 3.94 ±0.15%, the RKP value is better for KJA size 4×7 m by 1.16±0.17%, and production is 5,072 tons/unit/year on KJA size 3×6 m. The business performance obtained in this business is PP 0.6 years and R/C 1.5 so that the business is feasible to continue and in future production development it is more recommended to use KJA measuring 3 × 6 m.

Abstract

The grow-out phase in tilapia culture (Oreochromis niloticus) is a vital business segmentation because it is the final supply chain for fish at consumption size for the general market. This study aims to analyze the managerial aspect, and business profitability in tilapia grow-out culture at the Iwa-ke Oishi Fish Factory in Bogor, West Java. The experiment collected primary data (water quality measurement) and secondary data (interview). The tilapia grow-out culture was done by six farmers who were responsible for happas and ponds that they managed. The results showed that managerial aspects include work units, each of which has a specific role, for example, aquapartners responsible for fish culture activities and investors who provide venture capital. The two roles were linked through a profit-sharing scheme with Fish Factory Iwa-ke Oishi as the collaboration coordinator. Tilapia cultured had good growth performance, as seen from a high survival rate (70.0-82.8%), supported by good water quality with low concentrations of nitrite and nitrite during the culture period (1.5 mg/day). L and 0 mg/L, respectively). Financially, this activity was profitable and promising (payback period of 0.9 years). However, the profit margin could be improved by reducing the variable costs, such as utilizing natural biota as additional feed for tilapia to decrease the feeding cost.

Abstract

Purwasari Village is a village that has great potential in the field of aquaculture. These potentials include ponds that have not been utilized optimally and water sources that are channeled from irrigation. In addition, the potential in the field of human resources in Purwasari Village with groups engaged in fisheries is still not maximized. The people of Purwasari Village have a high interest in aquaculture activities, but the lack of knowledge related to cultivation aspects is an obstacle to improving the quality of production. In addition, the slow growth of female tilapia caused by wild spawning causes an increase in feed costs which is one of the main limiting factors for cultivators. The purpose of the PPK Ormawa activity is to empower the Purwasari Village community through monosex tilapia cultivation and tilapia fillet processing in order to increase village profitability and community food security during the Covid-19 pandemic. This activity method is carried out in a hybrid way, offline activities are carried out for field surveys, counseling and controlling and online activities are carried out to hold online meetings between lecturers, presenters and village communities as well as evaluation of ongoing program activities. This activity succeeded in increasing the knowledge, skills, number of members of the target group and the responsibilities of each individual. Physical change indicators can be seen in the revitalization of ponds and the provision of hatchery, nursery and rearing pond infrastructure for monosex tilapia. The formation of the Women Farmers Group for processing tilapia fillets and increasing the number of members of the Millennial Tani Tani group.

Abstract

Manajemen pemberian pakan melalui kombinasi pemberian pakan protein tinggi dan pakan protein rendah diduga dapat menekan biaya produksi pada usaha budidaya pembesaran ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi manajemen pemberian pakan dengan kadar protein berbeda terhadap kinerja produksi dan kinerja usaha budidaya pembesaran ikan lele yang dipelihara dalam sistem bioflok. Ikan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini memiliki bobot awal 5,48±1,31 g dan panjang awal 9,36±0,54 cm. Manajemen pemberian pakan dilakukan dengan pemberian pakan tinggi protein (HP) (33%) selama masa pembesaran dan kombinasi pakan HP (selama 42 hari pertama) dengan pakan rendah protein (LP) (14%) hingga panen. Kedua perlakuan ini diujikan pada dua sistem pembesaran ikan lele dengan metode konvensional pada kepadatan rendah (150 ekor m-3) dan sistem bioflok dengan kepadatan tinggi (500 ekor m-3). Tingkat kelangsungan hidup ikan tidak berbeda nyata antar perlakuan (P>0,05). Laju pertumbuhan dan efisiensi pakan terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan pemberian pakan protein tinggi dan tidak berbeda antara sistem konvensional dan sistem bioflok. Pemberian pakan rendah protein meningkatkan retensi protein pada kedua sistem pemeliharaan. Hasil analisis usaha menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan bioflok dengan pakan HP menghasilkan keuntungan terbesar di antara perlakuan lainnya yaitu Rp 24.413.257, R/C ratio sebesar 1,07, dan payback period selama 1,51 tahun. Penggunaan sistem bioflok dengan pakan berprotein tinggi dapat meningkatkan produktivitas dan keuntungan usaha pembesaran ikan lele dibandingkan dengan sistem konvensional dengan kepadatan rendah. Hasil penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa pemberian pakan dengan protein rendah tidak dapat menurunkan biaya pakan ataupun meningkatkan keuntungan usaha pembesaran ikan lele.

Abstract

Grouper fish, particularly the brown-marbled grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus), are among the most economically significant marine species widely farmed and exported. This study aimed to analyze the growth performance and business analysis of the production of brown-marbled grouper, both in nursery and grow-out segments. The research was conducted using a case study method at a governmental production and research center located in Lampung Province, Indonesia. Primary data were collected through field observations, while secondary data were obtained from interviews with farm personnel. The study revealed that the nursery phase faced significant challenges, with larval survival rates as low as 4.2%. In contrast, survival rates improved considerably in larger fish, demonstrating better resilience as they grow (reaching 92-93%). From a business perspective, the grow-out activity was found to be more profitable due to lower investment costs. However, it requires a longer period to raise the fish to market size. Both nursery and grow-out operations proved to be profitable, with respective R/C ratios of 1.6-2.0. Overall, while grouper farming is economically viable, it requires careful management to overcome the high mortality in the early life stages and to optimize the investment cost-effectiveness of the nursery phase.

Abstract

The increasing trend in catfish production is accompanied by an increase in feed requirements and prices. This will result in the high cost of catfish production. One of the savings solutions can be done by reducing labour costs with the use of semi-automatic feeders. This study aims to analyse labour productivity in feeding methods using semi-automatic feeders and manual feeding in catfish rearing. The treatments in this study were manual feeding pond (A) and semi-automatic feeder pond (B), each with 3 replicates. Catfish with a weight of 3.4 ± 0.82 g and length of 7.8 ± 0.65 cm were reared in a pond measuring 8 m x 12 m x 0.65 m with a stocking density of 481 fish/m3. During 83 days of rearing, the fish were fed three times a day. The feeder machine sprayed feed at a speed of 16 g/sec. Growth data were taken five times in 83 days of rearing. The results showed that the parameters of survival rate (TKH), absolute growth rate of length (LPMP), and absolute growth rate of weight (LPMB) had a significant effect, while the amount of feed consumption (JKP), feed conversion ratio (RKP), and total harvest showed no difference in catfish farming. Abstract

ABSTRACT The specific activity of the digestive enzymes, namely: pepsin, amylase, lipase, trypsin, and chymotrypsin were studied in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus fed diet supplemented with recombinant Ephinephelus lanceolatus growth hormone (rElGH). The results showed that fish treated with rE1GH showed lower lipase and chymotrypsin specific activities (P>0.05), while the trypsin/chymotrypsin specific activity (T/C ratio) was found higher compared to control fish. Moreover, higher protein digestibility, higher protein retention and a lower ammonia excretion rate were measured for rE1GH treated fish. Oral rElGH administration enhanced Nile tilapia growth up to 20.04%, without affecting survival. This study suggested that rapid growth performance induced by rElGH was linked with T/C ratio rather than the specific activity of other digestive enzymes. Keywords: recombinant growth hormone, digestive enzyme, digestibility, Oreochromis niloticus  ABSTRAK Aktivitas spesifik enzim pencernaan pepsin, amilase, lipase, tripsin, dan kemotripsin diamati pada ikan nila Oreochromis niloticus yang diberi pakan mengandung hormon pertumbuhan rekombinan ikan kerapu kertang Ephinephelus lanceolatus (rElGH)). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ikan uji pada perlakuan rElGH memiliki aktivitas spesifik enzim lipase dan kemotripsin yang lebih rendah, sedangkan rasio tripsin/kemotripsin (rasio T/C) yang lebih tinggi dibandingan ikan kontrol. Kecernaan protein dan retensi protein bernilai lebih tinggi sementara laju ekskresi amonia bernilai lebih rendah pada ikan perlakuan. Pemberian rElGH secara oral mampu mempercepat laju pertumbuhan ikan nila hingga 20,04% tanpa memengaruhi kelangsungan hidup. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa laju pertumbuhan cepat yang diinduksi oleh rElGH berhubungan dengan rasio T/C dibandingkan dengan aktivitas spesifik enzim pencernaan lain. Kata kunci: hormon pertumbuhan rekombinan, enzim pencernaan, kecernaan, Oreochromis niloticus

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effects of cinnamon Cinnamomum burmannii leaves extract addition with different doses in diet for the lipid muscle content of catfish Pangsianodon hypophthalmus. The cinnamon leaves extract was mixed in to the diet with five doses i.e: 0 (control); 0.5; 1; 2; and 4 g/kg diet. Catfish (7.43±0.01 g) were reared in 15 aquariums (160 L volume) with density of 30 fishes in each aquarium for 60 days. Fish were fed until apparent satiation three times daily at 08.00, 12.00, 16.00 WIB. The addition of cinnamon leaves extract at 1 g/kg of diet showed the optimal dose because it could lower flesh fat content, cholesterol, and triglycerides of catfish. Keywords: Pangasianodon hypopthalmus, Cinnamomum burmannii, fat, flesh  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh penambahan ekstrak daun kayu manis Cinnamomum burmannii dengan dosis berbeda pada pakan terhadap kandungan lemak daging ikan patin Pangsianodon hypopthalmus. Ekstrak daun kayu manis dicampurkan ke dalam pakan dengan lima dosis yaitu: 0 (kontrol); 0,5; 1; 2; dan 4 g/kg pakan. Ikan patin (7,43±0,01 g) dipelihara dalam 15 akuarium (volume 160 L) dengan kepadatan 30 ekor/akurium selama 60 hari. Ikan diberi pakan secara at satiation sebanyak tiga kali sehari pada pukul 08.00, 12.00, dan 16.00 WIB. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak daun kayu manis sebanyak 1 g/kg pakan memberikan hasil yang optimal karena dapat menurunkan kandungan lemak daging, kolesterol, dan trigliserida ikan patin. Kata kunci: Pangasianodon hypopthalmus, Cinnamomum burmannii, lemak, daging
