Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in coastal and marine management. Coastal areas with large river estuaries whose water flows contain a lot of substrate for growth can be optimally covered by mangroves. This study aims to determine the structure of mangrove vegetation density in Pangkal Babu Village. This research was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025 using the Transect Line Plot method with a purposive sampling approach at three observation stations. Each transect consisted of three plot sizes (10×10 m, 5×5 m, and 1×1 m) used to observe the growth rate of trees, seedlings, and saplings. The data included species identification, number of individuals, species density, relative density, species frequency, relative frequency, species cover, and importance value index (IVI). Qualitative and quantitative analyses were performed to describe the condition of the mangrove community structure at each station. The results showed that there were nine mangrove species found at the three stations in Pangkal Babu Village, namely Sonneratia alba, Avicennia marina, Avicennia alba, Rhizophora apiculate, Rhizophora mucronate, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Acanthus ilicifolius, and Nypa fruticans. Station 1 had low mangrove density with a total of only 26 individuals/ha, dominated by Sonneratia alba with a density of 416.67 ind/ha and the highest INP of 280.04%. Meanwhile, Station 2 showed.

Abstract

Fish feed is an important part of the fish farming business. Feed costs in fish farming reach 60-80% of production costs, especially in freshwater fish farming. Currently, feed prices have increased which has an impact on the profit margins of fish farming businesses carried out by fish farmers. To overcome this problem, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries implemented the aquafeed self sufficiency program through government assistance activities. To determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the independent fish food program, it is necessary to evaluate the program implementation which is measured based on the achievement of the activity output. The data in this research was obtained from recipients of the aquafeed self sufficiency program (machinery and feed raw materials) for 2023-2024. Distribution of fish feed machines and raw materials from 2023-2024 has distributed 84 packages of fish feed machines and fish feed raw materials to 84 aid recipients. Aid distribution activities in 2023 will be realized in 23 provinces and in 2024 will be realized in 18 provinces. And as many as 88% of aid recipient groups are actively engaged in feed production (falling into the effective category for the effectiveness of priority activities/government assistance). Based on the realization of activity output achievements, the Independent Fish Feed Program has been implemented well and effectively.

Abstract

This researchwas conducted at the Sungai Gelam Freshwater Aquaculture Center (BPBAT) in Jambi, with the aim of studying and understanding the process of makingartificial feed for catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) through two production techniques, namely household scale and industrial scale. This studyused qualitative methods with direct involvement in all stages ofproduction, from the preparation of raw materials to packaging. Nine types of raw materials wereused, namely fish meal, rice bran, fine bran, soybean meal, wheat flour, aminoliquid, multivitamins, phytase enzymes, and antifungal agents. The household-scale feed production process is carried out using a simple machine with a capacity of 100 kg per hour, while the industrial-scaleprocess uses an automated system with a capacity of up to one ton per hour. The results of proximate analysis show that the feed produced has a protein contentof 30.01%, fat 7.26%, water 10.12%, crude fiber 3.35%, and ash8.85%, all of which meet the SNI 9043-12:2024 standard. These resultsshow that both household-scale and industrial-scale feed havegood nutritional quality and are suitable for use in catfish farming. The physical quality ofthe feed produced on a household scale is crumbly in texture, uneven in size, and yellowish-brown in color, in contrast to industrial-scale feed, which is dense in texture, uniform in size, and dark brown in color.

Abstract

Lemna minor is a floating aquatic plant with a high protein content, making it a potential substitute for fishmeal in formulated fish feeds. This study aimed to evaluate the utilization of L. minor meal as a partial replacement for fishmeal and to provide supporting information regarding its application in aquaculture. Feed formulations were prepared with L. minor meal at substitution levels of 10% and 20%, and tested using a completely randomized design with three replicates, employing Nile tilapia as the test organism. The results showed that the 10% substitution level produced the best growth performance, with a 0.53% higher growth rate compared to both the control and the 20% substitution. Additionally, the inclusion of L. minor meal improved feed buoyancy and water stability. These findings indicate that L. minor meal has promising potential as a feed ingredient to reduce the reliance on relatively expensive fishmeal.

Abstract

The coastal waters of Muara Sabak Timur, located in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, Jambi Province, possess significant potential for marine fishery resources but are currently experiencing fishing pressure due to the extensive use of trawl nets. This study aimed to analyze the length-frequency distribution of the main trawl catches and to determine the proportion of fish that have reached the Minimum Legal Size (MLS) in the area. The research was conducted from March to May 2025 in Lambur Luar Village using a field survey method with a purposive sampling approach. Primary data were obtained through total length measurements of three dominant species: narrow-barred Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus guttatus), silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus), and black pomfret (Parastromateus niger), with 120 specimens collected for each species. Length-frequency distribution was analyzed using Sturges’ formula, and the size at first maturity (Lm) was determined based on FishBase. The results indicated that most of the fish caught were below their Lm, with only 10% of S. guttatus, 32% of P. argenteus, and 21% of P. niger categorized as legally harvestable. This suggests that trawl operations in Muara Sabak Timur predominantly capture juvenile and sub-adult fish. The low selectivity of the trawl nets, caused by small mesh sizes (<2 inches), allows immature fish to be caught before reproducing, indicating the onset of overfishing that threatens natural recruitment. These findings highlight the urgent need for size-based management strategies, including the implementation of minimum mesh sizes, enforcement of species-specific MLS regulations, and the establishment of spawning protection zones. Promoting selective fishing technologies and enhancing fisher participation are essential steps toward achieving sustainable fishery management and maintaining the ecological balance of coastal resources in Muara Sabak Timur.

Abstract

Polyculture is one of the innovations that is developing in the agricultural sector, including the fisheries cultivation sector. Polyculture-based fisheries cultivation is a system that combines more than one type of aquatic organism in one cultivation container to improve ecosystem balance and productivity. This study aims to analyze the impact of polyculture-based fisheries cultivation on income and community empowerment in Bonto Kio Village, Minasa Tene District, Pangkep Regency. This study uses a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were obtained by distributing structured questionnaires to 42 fish farmer respondents selected using the Slovin formula from a total population of 73 people. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies. The data analysis technique used was a simple correlation test for quantitative data and the Satori Komariah technique for qualitative data which includes 3 main steps, namely, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the polyculture cultivation system has a positive relationship direction to community income, especially through production efficiency and optimization of limited pond land. However, the relationship is weakly positive, with a correlation coefficient of (r) 0.282. The positive impact on community empowerment has not been optimal and needs to be strengthened, particularly due to declining productivity and a lack of technical assistance skills due to the cessation of extension activities. Key inhibiting factors include declining seed quality, unpredictable weather (flooding), and limited capital.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi dampak dari penambahan Lemna sp. yang telah difermentasi dalam pakan terhadap tingkat kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan, dan efisiensi konversi pakan (FCR) pada benih ikan nila (Oreochromis niloticus). Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di Balai Benih Ikan Karrang, di Kabupaten Enrekang, Sulawesi Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari lima perlakuan dan tiga ulangan: A (100% Lemna fermentasi + 0% pelet), B (75% Lemna fermentasi + 25% pelet), C (50% Lemna fermentasi + 50% pelet), D (25% Lemna fermentasi + 75% pelet), dan E (0% Lemna fermentasi + 100% pelet). Parameter yang diperhatikan termasuk pertumbuhan (berat dan panjang), rasio konversi pakan (FCR), tingkat kelangsungan hidup, serta kualitas air (suhu dan pH). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan D menghasilkan bobot akhir rata-rata tertinggi yaitu 16,06 g dan panjang 24,57 cm; perlakuan B mencatatkan FCR terendah sebesar 1,3067; sedangkan perlakuan C menunjukkan nilai kelangsungan hidup tertinggi. Analisis ekonomi yang sederhana menunjukkan bahwa dengan mengganti sebagian pelet menggunakan Lemna fermentasi, biaya pakan per satuan penambahan bobot dapat berkurang asalkan biaya produksi Lemna fermentasi tidak lebih dari Rp 5.000/kg. Untuk mencapai keseimbangan antara pertumbuhan dan biaya dalam skala pembenihan, direkomendasikan penggunaan campuran 25% Lemna fermentasi dan 75% pelet. Abstract

Pemanfaatan limbah tulang ikan malong masih belum dilakukan dan belum terpublikasikan. Tulang ikan malong merupakan salah satu limbah padat yang memiliki potensi sebagai salah satu sumber kalsium. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan karakteristik fisikokimia tepung tulang ikan malong (Muraenesox cinerus) sebagai upaya pemanfaatan limbah tulang menjadi produk bernilai tambah. Proses pengolahan dilakukan melalui tahap perebusan berulang, pemanasan, pengeringan, penghalusan, dan pengayakan. Analisis proksimat meliputi kadar air, abu, lemak, protein, karbohidrat, serat kasar, analisis rendemen untuk mengetahui karakteristik fisikokimia dari tepung tulang ikan malong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rendemen tepung tulang yang diperoleh sebesar 13,40% dengan nilai pH sebesar 6,96. Kandungan proksimat meliputi kadar abu 60,77%, air 0,51%, lemak 4,12%, protein 26,54%, karbohidrat 5,75%, dan serat kasar 2,29% serta nilai kalsium yang didapatkan adalah 4,62%. Nilai-nilai tersebut menunjukkan bahwa tepung tulang ikan malong memiliki komposisi mineral yang tinggi serta kandungan organik yang sesuai untuk berbagai aplikasi industri. Studi ini memberi gambaran awal untuk pengembangan tepung tulang sebagai bahan tambahan pada pangan, pakan, dan produk turunan lainnya

Abstract

The sailfin catfish (Pterygoplichthys sp.) is an invasive species that has rapidly proliferated in Lake Sidenreng and poses ecological threats through food competition, habitat degradation, and disruption of native fish communities. This study aims to analyze the morphometric, meristic, and growth characteristics of sailfin catfish as a basis for understanding its biological traits and for developing management strategies to control its invasive population in Lake Sidenreng. The research was conducted from January to March 2025 using a quantitative descriptive method with a total sample of 400 individuals, all of which were used for the length–weight relationship analysis. From this total sample, 100 individuals were randomly selected for morphometric measurements (24 body characters) and meristic observations (counts of dorsal, pectoral, pelvic, anal, and caudal fin rays). The results showed an average total length of 30.09 cm (range 15.7–39.4 cm), with relatively narrow meristic variation, indicating population homogeneity. The length–weight analysis revealed negative allometric growth for both sexes. Males exhibited a low R² value (0.2134), indicating high variability in body weight associated with territorial behavior, whereas females showed a high R² value (0.8955), reflecting a more stable and controlled growth pattern. These findings highlight the strong adaptive capacity of Pterygoplichthys and its potential for population expansion in Lake Sidenreng, underscoring the need for effective management strategies to mitigate its ecological impacts.
