Abstract

The legal issue of the distribution of inheritance for women with a ratio of 2: 1 which is stated in the Qur'an Surah Al-Nisā' verses 11 and 176 reaps many pros and cons in its interpretation. This is evidenced by many writings and books written by Muslim scholars to express criticism of interpretation and perspective in examining the law contained in the inheritance verse. The phrase equality and justice led to the issue of equal distribution of inheritance between men and women. This was pioneered by feminists. Through this, it appears that the distribution of inheritance for women needs to be studied further. The focus of the study of this paper is how to criticize the interpretation of the mufasir scholars on the inheritance verse of surah Al-Nisā' verses 11 and 176. By using a qualitative approach and library research method, this study shows that the law of inheritance distribution received by women has received a lot of criticism both pro and con from the scholars of interpretation. This study shows that those who are in favor of the distribution of women's inheritance with a ratio of 2: 1, namely Muhammad Abduh, Tabatabai, and Muhammad Syahrur with their maximum limit theory. Those who are against and have new ideas are Amina Wadud and Munawir Sjadzali.

Abstract

This study discusses the dynamics of the role of career women in an Islamic perspective, specifically how Muslim women balance career demands and religious guidance. In recent decades, the role of women in the workforce has undergone significant changes, with more and more women participating in the public sector. Nonetheless, the challenge of fulfilling domestic responsibilities as wives and mothers by Islamic teachings remains a major concern. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method to analyze religious texts and relevant contemporary literature. The results show that Islam recognizes women's right to work and have a career, but emphasizes the importance of balancing domestic and public roles. Scholars' views on career women vary, from conservative to progressive, but they all agree that women's work should be in line with Sharia principles. Support from the family, especially the husband, is crucial in helping women carry out this dual role. This research provides practical guidance for Muslim women in navigating career challenges in the modern era, as well as contributing to the existing literature by offering a new perspective on how Islam can be a relevant guide in the lives of career women.

Abstract

This paper examines the Qur'ānic transposition of Al-Kitab on the understanding that the initial creation of women came from the rib of men. It seems that this discussion arises not from the narrative of the Qur'anic text that explicitly explains it, but only from the narrative of previous interpretations and Hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslims. This research formulates two problems, first, how the concept of the initial creation of women according to the Qur'an and Al-Kitab, and second, how the transposition of the Qur'an to Al-Kitab. To analyze texts that have a relationship with each other, this paper uses Kristeva's intertextuality approach. This article concludes that the transposition of the Qur'an to the Bible in Kristeva's analysis contains several elements, namely; the connection of substance or excerpt regarding the purpose of the creation of pairs to complement each other and produce offspring, the contradiction between the text of the Qur'an and Al-Kitab which contains elements of haplology occurs in the abrogation of the Qur'anic text which states that women come from the ribs of men, defamiliarization or changes in meaning conveyed by the Qur'an implicitly about the initial creation of women and demystification which occurs when the Qur'anic text changes the definition of the initial creation of women who are the same as men so that this difference creates Qur'anic opposition to the concept of Al-Kitab or conversion.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Amina Wadud’s thoughts in her interpretation of the Qur'an using Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic approach. The literature review research method is used as a research approach that involves various sources of literature, including Amina Wadud’s works, especially “Qur'an and Woman: Rereading the Sacred Text from a Woman’s Perspective,” as well as related literature that discusses Lacan's thoughts, Islamic feminism, and the interpretation of the Qur'an. Based on Lacan’s mirror stage and his psychoanalytic concepts to analyze the construction of Amina Wadud’s self-identity and gender roles in the interpretation of the Qur'an, it is found in the results of this study that there is identification related to gender identity, inequality, and rejection of patriarchal traditions in Amina Wadud’s thoughts reflected in her interpretation. One of them is in QS. Al-Nisā [4]: 1, showing the construction of Amina Wadud’s self-identity and gender roles in the interpretation of the Qur'an.
