The RAUT journal seeks works that advance the discourses on spatial-related fields from multiple perspectives in various design and planning-related disciplines: architecture, urban planning, landscape, interior, and also humanities and engineering. It is published two times a year, consisting of both guest-edited special issues, as well as open issues. The journal seeks works to communicate and improve empirical knowledge and theoretical understanding of architecture and urban planning in view of global challenges and their local manifestations. This includes the reality of climate change, economic and urban growth, new technologies and societal, political and cultural shifts. Submissions are also invited in the forms of empirical research, desk study, book reviews, projects and exhibitions that are intended to challenge and extend the ideas of architecture and urban planning. This journal also gives special attention to Vernacular Architecture, Post-disaster studies, and Islamic City and Architecture.

Abstract

Kota kompak dapat menjadi jawaban dari permasalahan perkotaan berupa pembangunan yang menyebar dengan memberi sinergi kepadatan penduduk yang ideal, kegiatan ekonomi dan sosial yang terkonsentrasi, dan intensifikasi transportasi umum yang lebih baik. Pembangunan Kota Banda Aceh yang cenderung ke arah Selatan merupakan dampak dari kejadian tsunami tahun 2004, sehingga menjadikannya sebagai wilayah Pusat Kota Baru di masa depan, tepatnya di Kawasan Batoh-Lamdom. Pembangunan tersebut memberikan dampak berupa pembangunan yang menyebar. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pengawasan perencanaan pembangunan di wilayah Pusat Kota Baru Batoh-Lamdom. Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat kesesuaian wilayah untuk menjadi kota kompak. Beberapa hal dasar yang dilihat berupa kependudukan, prasarana, hingga kebencanaan wilayahnya. Pusat Kota Baru Batoh-Lamdom memiliki penduduk dengan usia produktif, prasarana yang telah memenuhi, dan tingkat bahaya bencana yang minim. Beberapa hal tersebut dapat menjadi modal dasar untuk penerapan konsep kota kompak.

Abstract

Acehs diverse cultural heritage expressed through music, dance, theater, and traditional customs, highlights the need for a dedicated space to preserve and promote local arts. This study aims to redesign the Aceh Arts and Culture Park in Banda Aceh using Neo-Vernacular Architecture, an approach that combines traditional values with modern design principles. The design adopts five key principles: Direct Connection, Abstract Relationship, Landscape Integration, Contemporary Interpretation, and Future Relationship. These are reflected in the form, massing, and faade treatments inspired by elements of Acehnese culture such as the Rumoh Aceh, traditional dances, and local customs. Located on Teuku Umar Street with a site area of approximately 31,000 m, the park is designed as a cultural hub equipped with supportive facilities. Using a qualitative method, the research involves field surveys and literature review. The study finds that the Neo-Vernacular approach reinforces cultural identity, improves climate responsiveness, and enhances the parks function as a center for cultural preservation and tourism. The project is expected to establish a new architectural identity for Banda Aceh and attract both local and international visitors.

Abstract

The research examines the philosophy, meaning, form, and ornament of the Pagaruyung City Basa Palace as a representation of Minangkabau cultural values. The Minangkabau people are used to learning a lot from nature that has become their life's grip. Through various decorative motifs, the Minang people try to introduce their way of thinking which is inspired by nature. As a cultural heritage or heirloom of a culture and beauty, the Basa Palace of Pagaruyung City holds many advice or life lessons contained in the symbols present on the ornaments. A philosophy that underlies the life of the Minangkabau people, namely "nature takambang becomes a teacher", the ornamental motifs of the Basa Palace are flora and fauna motifs because they are indeed inspired by nature. Each carving symbolizes the symptoms of community life which is a guideline in the implementation of the life of the Minangkabau people.
